ANFLS says going for it on 4th-and-1 was correct, but it's reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally close.

I was in agreement in going for it, but the play call and execution was awful. With the formation and personnel pakage(Green Ellis in instead of Woodhead and Connolly at FB), it telegraphed run and then Green Ellis didn't follow Connolly into the hole, instead bouncing outside where there were 4 defenders, a total disaster of a play.

Agreed that going for it was the best choice but I dont like the play call either. Also, Im surprised that we didnt play more of a onside kick prevent lineup when SD ran that "surprise" onside kick. I dont think we should have been surprised by that in that particular spot, especially seeing as they had already tried a weird onsideish kickoff earlier in the game.

thank the lord we won that game so we are spared another brutal conversation about going for it.

There wasn't a prevent lineup because apparently the coaches didn't expect it. I'm more concerned with that and the fact that SD marched down the field to score 14 straight points within 5 or so minutes than I am about the marginal 4th down decision, which is a position they shouldn't have been in in the first place.

It appeared to me that the Patriots tried to coast into victory and lost their intensity and once SD got the momentum, they were really hard to stop. They could be a very formidable team if they just had a little discipline.

Was it too far for a sneak? I didn't think so and I thought that was their best bet as it seems to work far more often than a sweep. I also think that Green-Ellis had a hole if he ran straight ahead and dived.

I echo most here that they should have gone for it but the play call and execution was awful.

or, that the QB leading the league in yards finally made some plays. it's gonna happen.

Goodie, the sneak is usually an uncalled play. If Brady sees no one over Center on defense, he has a signal worked out with Koppen and they run the sneak. I believe it was stacked and so they would therefore not try it.

Okay, reasonable enough. Seems as though they definitely should have called something different then what they did though. And I thought Green-ellis executed horribly.

On 4th and short/two-point conversions, I really like the 4-wide package where they sometimes snap the ball directly to the RB. I hated the 5-wide against Indy and wasn't too enamored about the heavy package against SD.

and I think the odds are in favor of mankins being back soon, which would be nice.
what does JAG mean?

Kaczur is replaceable yes, but at least with him you have (very) deep AND good depth at tackle. I've seen Vollmer get beat several times this season which is expected considering he is only a sophomore.

And no, you cannot find guys like Faulk... Don't be delusional. Nobody is better at blitz pickup on 3rd down than he is. No back is better at converting 3rd downs than he is.

And mankins might be back but he will be out of shape and ineffective. Plus, he might still "refuse" to play...

look Kazcur is a loss but every single team has losses like him (or bigger ones), and frequently.

re: Faulk - I guess the proof is in the pudding. how has the offense done without him? has woodhead provided much of the same (albeit different) value?

for a rebuilding year, its nice to be back in 1st place in the East, but having the best record in the league as well is just gravy, lol

At times in the first half, it seemed like we were overmatched. But then somehow we get control of the game. Every game is a struggle but it's more fun (for me) than 2007 when every game was a blowout.

Pats win, Jets lose, Steelers lose.

So, now the Patriots have the best record in the NFL. But, it sure doesn't feel like it.

An NFC team hasn't beaten the Patriots at home since 2002. That team? Favre and the Packers. Heh.

Just wanted to post in this thread today while the Patriots hold the best record in the NFL. I'm interested to see where people rank them now in the weekly power rankings. I'm guessing most still won't rank them no. 1 even though they have the best record and have only beat one really bad team. The other five wins have all been against quality opponents.

Peter King has Pats #1

on a neutral field, I still think the Steelers and possibly the Chargers or Ravens would be favored over us. Colts, Jets very close. point spreads/moneylines are the only power rankings worth anything

the top 5 is really extremely close

Not sure the Ravens would still be favored. Every advanced stat has them as merely above average or worse and they've only had a couple impressive wins. Replace them with the Titans and I think I agree.

I hope no one ranks them #1. BB is the best at playing the disrespect card.

I'm pretty certain no team will be favored by more than 3 pts on a neutral field vs the pats, but if they're #1 it's not by much. Secondary is so shaky, and while they've won vs good teams it's all been very close games. I still take the jets on a neutral field.
