Again.

Tie game bases loaded nobody out.

Bonifacio strikes out. BJ grounds into the 5-2-3 double play.

Yet again, the Braves bullpen loses another game to a subpar team in the padres.

Infield & Outfield have deep-run playoff potential. I believe they announced that Schafer was traded today? He was a great base runner, not so much fielding. Doumit should've went first, IMO.

Bullpen, with exception of a couple, all need to be traded.

Exceptions IMO: J. Teheran, E. Santana, C. Kimbrel (CL) [tho his wild pitches costing games needs to be put under control]

Borderline: A. Harang & J. Walden

Trade/let go the following:

M. Minor
A. Wood
A. Varvaro
D. Hale
J. Russell
C. Shreve

Until the bullpen gets way stronger, they'll never make it past the first round of the playoffs.

I was sad to hear that Pete Van Wieren passed away yesterday. Braves were my favorite team growing up, mostly b/c they were the only team that was on TV for me. Pete and Skip calling the game, Dale Murphy raking..... good memories.

You can't stop the Padres, you can only hope to contain them.

They showed some clips of Pete broadcasting during the game yesterday and man did that bring back some memories. Listening to that crew was such a pleasure.

I was glad The Professor emceed so many special events over the past five or so years.

I genuinely loved the man.

He did the on-field PA at the 2000 home run Derby when I was 13 and my dad and I had standing room only tickets.

1995 was the first year I realized Braves games were on the radio, and I fell asleep just about every night listening to either Skip and Pete or Don and Joe. I had a strict 8 pm bed time but could listen to my alarm clock radio at a tiny volume up to my ear.

You're really blaming the bullpen? Our bats are horrid

I'll concede that they aren't the best but have improved. It starts with a solid bullpen. If the Upton brothers could become base hitters rather than power hitters that go on 1 for 16 droughts followed by a home run, they would improve drastically. Heyward, Freeman & LaStella are solid. Gattis & Uptons are power hitters that don't get base hits often but smash homers about once every couple games. Simmons & Johnson need alot of work.

All these guys are great fielders with very few errors. Just need to improve the bats. I think if they had a solid bullpen, they'd have a chance at a deep run in the playoffs.

Absolutely. He'd be the first one out, IMO. Have you seen the last 3 games he's started & got destroyed in the first few innings?

Justin Upton has the highest average on the team (among qualified). Idk why you are grouping him with BJ like they are the same.

You're right. It was more of a rough generalization without looking at stats. Justin is way better than BJ right now.

BJ Upton remains in the bottom 5-6 players in the majors in OBP and wOBA and he's managed to find his way up to 1st in the batting order. In a season where the Braves have a decent chance of barely missing the playoffs, it is really depressing.

A week ago, you could have at least made a (weak) argument for keeping BJ in the lineup (batting 8th) because "well, Schafer isn't much better". Then they went and traded for a capable replacement in Bonifacio. Now there is no excuse for trotting one of the worst players in the league out there every day.

What a failure of management.

It's frankly amazing that the Braves made the playoffs last year and are in the race again this year considering Uggla/BJ trying to torpedo the team.

But yea, Bonifacio should be in CF, no question. Even more lol that BJ is batting 1st. Just beyond awful.

Imo the BJ nonsense is a perfect example of human beings just struggling so much to properly deal with sunk costs.

Yep. It was encouraging to see the Braves give up on Uggla while still owing him ~$20m, but I guess that's nothing compared to the $50m left on B.J.'s deal. Combine that with the traditional 'wisdom' of putting a fast guy at the top of the order and there you have it.

So we've lost 6 straight. No worries, just Felix Hernandez tonight.

I'm going to set the over/under at 9.5 K's for Felix, and I'd take the over on that.
