Wow, Heyward is such a beast. How many of you already have his jersey? I wish the Mariners could come through with an offensive talent like that. I will feel better when Felix mows him down in the all star game, but still.....

Heyward, McCann, Escobar, Jurrjens and Hanson are going to be such a sick core of players to build around for the next several years.

If we don't make a couple deep playoff runs while these guys are so cheap, it's going to be pretty disapointing.

Our scouting and player development has been as good as anyone's in baseball for the last couple of decades.

Yea we'll contend as long as that core is producing but I can't really see it getting much better than this tbh. The rotation and bullpen are really really solid. Offense isn't great but has potential to be pretty good. There are veterans all over the place in key spots. And the young core is just coming into their own.

It just sucks that Philly happens to be in the middle/end of their run during the same period. It's gonna be tough just getting to the postseason having to contend with Philly for the division and the NL West teams for the WC.

But I'm hopeful we can find a way to get in and make some noise this year .

But in a couple years even if we don't have quite as good a team top to bottom we'll probably have a much easier time winning the division with the Phils being old as **** and NYM hopefully being the same loltards.

imo

I really don't get all the fuss about the rotation and bullpen being so great and so deep.

Hudson's coming back from injury, and I'll be happy if Kawakami and Lowe's aggregate ERA is below 5.50. Lowe is burnt toast and has been since last season.

Who knows how long Moylan can keep his smoke and mirrors going. Saito and Wagner are obviously one wrong move away from the 60 day DL. The only other bullpen piece that's not uninspiring is Medlen, and he's been a project ever since he got a case of the yips and started walking every other batter when he got called up to the bigs. I don't think the bullpen is the place for him.

Getting tommy john surgery isn't even a big deal anymore..pitchers have it and come back stronger than ever all the time. Huddy has looked fantastic so far and was a horse before the injury so yea. Kawakami had a bad first month last year and then was solid. Why not expect more of the same this year? Lowe is a pos but for a 5th starter he's not completely horrible.

wtf? Moylan has been a beast since he's been here...so nasty. There's no reason to think Saito will be anything but awesome just like he was with LAD and Bos the last 4 years. Wagner is coming back from tommy john but like I said that **** just serves as a tuneup these days..and he's looked awesome. Medlen is aight but i'm not as big a fan of his as others.

It looks like Jason Heyward-Bey has wrapped up NL Rookie of The Year honors already.

Very nice post, and agreed as well about Tommy John Surgery.

In the mid 90's you might have been 50-50 to make it back after TJS, but medical technology has advanced so much for that surgery in the last 10-15 years.

It's basically become a simple procedure for the surgeons that are operating on these multi-million dollar arms (obv only the top-top surgeons like James Andrews).

Yeah that was great. Until the bottom of the 9th, I spent the entire game feeling that same old frustration of the past few years. I was sure the Braves had wasted the opportunity this game provided.

But, nope!

wow, was in a bar during that game and randomly jumped and hugged people I didn't know when Heyward hit that bomb.

also McClouthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Such a sick move by the entire dugout to disappear.

The best part is that my buddy sitting next to me says 3 seconds before Heyward hits that bomb "Why wouldn't you just walk Heyward here?"

I am referring to Heyward as "Our Lord and Savior" from now on.

Beat:

Declined an invitation to the game with a friend because I had work to finish up. Walked to a bar to watch the second half of the Hawks game. Left bar after Hawks game, right about the middle of the top of the 9th. Stopped by the gas station to buy beer on the walk back. Walked in the door and turned on the TV just in time for the post game wrap up.

It's time for Hanson to step up and establish himself as the Braves losing-streak stopper imo.

I don't think this team has been the same since John Smoltz stepped down from that role.
