I honestly think its fair but you guys are the commishes. Correct me if I am wrong but you can overrule.

Hamilton in 5th year Yadi in 4th year not gonna do me much good. Essentially a guy that woulda been a first rounder and second rounder this year (at least by my estimation) for my first 3 pics next year.

I wonder what ND Fan thinks tbh.

I have a question. I probably asked it before and didn't understand the answer but now that we're actually in the rookie draft maybe I will.

So I got 5 picks in the rookie draft. This will bring me to 12 rookies on my roster. My team is AIDS so I have no problem spending another $32 this year on an additional 8 rookies. If I wanted to, could I make picks in rounds 6-8 (or the lightning round) or are those picks solely "compensatory" picks to bring those teams up to 10 rookies?

If the answer is no, I would be willing to dole out some 2014 cap space for any remaining draft picks.

The commish can overrule a trade, but I don't think it's ever been done before. That rule exists in the event of very extreme cases or someone possibly skirting the rules - not at all what Karak and I were reacting to.

If you're that high on Seager and Pederson then I at least see why you made the deal. As long as everyone's happy. That said -

No, you can not trade for picks beyond Round 5. Those later picks are compensatory and mandatory, meaning those teams need the picks to reach the minor league roster floor of ten players.

In addition, if you were to trade away one of your guaranteed picks from rounds 1-5, per the rules:

Quote:
8) If a team trades away one of its guaranteed picks (rounds 1-5) or a minor leaguer, that team does not receive any compensation picks UNLESS the team needs it to meet the roster floor. In that case, the team will be granted a replacement pick at the very end of the draft order to make up for the traded pick. The replacement pick order is determined by transaction completion dates, with earlier transactions receiving higher picks in the final round.

That's helpful. I don't necessarily need to trade for those picks. Could I make any more picks along with them (or after them)? Or are you saying barring me trading for any of the first five rounds, I am limited to five picks.

I think I follow you, but feel free to PM the specific deal you have in mind if you need a rules check.

So for example, you could acquire another team's 4th round pick mid-draft and add that to your total, giving you a grand total of 6 picks. You may acquire as many picks as you want, so long as you do not exceed the minor league roster ceiling of 20 players.

The sections "Minor League System" and "Rookie Draft" talk about this in more detail.

I was just curious if there was basically "open season" with respect to rookie picks after the standard five rounds and the compensatory/mandatory picks that follow that (labeled as Rounds 6-8 and Lightning Round on the spreadsheet). Such that any teams that wanted to make additional picks at that time were free to do so (up to a potential 20 rookie limit).

It sounds like that is not the case. Rule 6 under "Rookie Draft" hints at this. Just wanted to confirm that with you guys.

Thanks
