But seriously, the additional charge for hotel guests per night is what really grinds my gears. You can't just include that in the resort fee? That in-your-face kind of corporate greed is what will deter me (and probably a hell of a lot of other people) to never stay at an MGM property again.
I'm never going into an MGM place, much less stay at one. No idea what my Mlife tier is but it won't be getting another point.

my hunch:

They will charge for parking for a short while, realize it's sort of lack luster, and then come up (steal) your brilliant idea to include it into the resort fee... after they hike it up to $39.99 a night to cover the additional ammenities.

Too many tourists don't use the parking at all.

What's the GTO for poker players and Sapphire tier members who drive, with this MGM rip-off of parking + resort fees?

- Boycott MGM properties as much as possible: Aria, Vdara, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Delano, MGM Grand, Mirage, New York-New York, Excalibur, Luxor, Monte Carlo, & Circus Circus.

- If will play poker or at MGM property > 1 hour, park at closest non-MGM property?

- Never play poker > 24 hours when parked at MGM.

- During special events when even adjacent non-MGM parking lots may be full, don't use my rental car & take public transportation instead?

Nice grace period for locals. I should get 75 hours easily by December as I might have close to it already. I will still park at CET properties unless going to the south strip. I would hate for Venetian/Wynn to follow suit because I rarely play there compared to MLife and CET properties but I like having the option to go up there once in a while. Walking there during the summer from Mirage, Harrah's, or even TI would suck.

Probably won't bother renting a car this year then. An extra $50 for five days on top of the rental fee tips it over into '**** it, I'll just get ubers/cabs'.

I've travelled extensively throughout the U.S. for business and pleasure for 30+ years and I've never once come across such a policy. When a hotel's parking is full for whatever reason, invariably a sign is placed out front that states : Valet Full - Except for Hotel Guests (or words to that effect). A hotel not only would never double bill a hotel guest for parking, legally I don't believe that they could even if they wanted to.

As I said, the rest of the article may be correct, but based on the above, whoever wrote it doesn't have a clue about hotel parking policy and procedure.

My hunch:

Lots of people here mentioning that they'd park at closest non-mgm property and walk. Lots of people here, and tourists WILL do that, and it will very quickly lead to the other properties charging for parking also.

IMO the ONLY way that this could even come close to being abandoned, (or even just stopping other properties following suit) is to cut off visiting MGM properties.

If you park elsewhere and walk other properties will have to protect their own parking, only common sense really. You can guarantee all other casinos are going to be keeping a VERY close eye on how this affects them and how it affects MGM.

Y'all seen this? Just received this email this morning:

Quote:
Dear JM3,

MGM Resorts International is taking steps to implement a $90 million parking strategy to expand parking availability, implement technology upgrades and reduce the hassle and frustration resulting from outdated and inefficient facilities.

In order to fund these investments—and the ongoing maintenance and capital improvements of our parking facilities—we will be instituting fees for self- and valet parking. Fees will begin to roll out at our Las Vegas hotels on June 6, 2016. These rates remain significantly below those of other highly popular tourism destinations.

As a local Nevada resident, our self-parking will continue to be complimentary to you through December 29, 2016, with the presentation of a valid Nevada driver’s license.

To extend complimentary parking beyond that date, you may choose to participate in M life Rewards, the loyalty program of MGM Resorts. Once you achieve Pearl tier status, self-parking is complimentary. Gold, Platinum and NOIR M life Rewards members also receive complimentary valet parking.

All parking is subject to availability.

The environment in Las Vegas has changed dramatically in the decades since amenities like low-quality dining, lodging and free parking were offered to attract customers. Growth in tourism and our local population—including many more cars on our local roadways—requires more parking availability, more efficient, modern parking systems and more frequent maintenance and upgrades to our aging facilities—all of which come at significant cost.

We have come to this decision with a great deal of care, particularly knowing we would be breaking with Las Vegas tradition. We know this change in strategy may be difficult in the short term, but it supports our aspirations for continuing to invest in the Las Vegas community for many years to come.

Click here for a complete overview of our parking policy.

Sincerely,

Lili Tomovich
Chief Experience Officer
(emphasis added)

& HERE is the link to their parking policy (also added the link to the body of the letter).

If you are a hotel guest and have Pearl+ card, just use the MLife card.

I've given CET 90% of my business for the past 3-4 years because MLife program and offers are crap. I hope this moves others to do the same.

Don't just park at CET properties. Stay there and gamble/poker there.

"There will be an exception and your parking fees will be waived if you book your visit to an MGM Resorts property before May 19. If you book a reservation on or after May 19, 2016, for arrival on or after June 6, 2016, you’ll have to pay a self-parking and/or valet fee. This sounds like an incentive to book a visit to an MGM Resorts property in the next week."

Interesting. I do have a floating reservation for Aria July 4th weekend. So this would apply to me should I actually show up.

Hate to break it to you, cabs and Uber aren't cheap in Vegas. Uber is cheaper than a cab, but it's their most expensive market in the US.

Awful BJ rules are why some people hate gambling at CET. I'm diamond so I play there. But I hate myself for it

It's not even close to the most expensive.NYC is twice as expensive.

I like how they equate free parking with low quality food and cheap motel rooms as things of the past.

CET properties have a bunch of 1-2 NL and that's usually it. That's great if you only play 1-2 NL but sucks if you play 2-5, or something like PLO, midstakes limit or any omaha hi-low.

Similar to when resort fees first rolled out. If your reservation was made before the roll out, you got grandfathered in.

Well that's interesting. They also say that prices may be higher during special events at all their casinos except Circus Circus.

I agree that CET, Wynn, Tropicana, Venetian, Treasure Island, are all watching what happens like a hawk. I do hope that CET will look at this as a business opportunity to get disgruntled Mlife customers away. Maybe do some similar advertising like before resort fees and say, "No parking fees here"

Only time will tell if this new business model will work and whether it increases their overall profitability.

Unfortunately, I think what is going to end up happening is, people will be upset, they end up paying the fees, and parking fees become the standard in Las Vegas. Whether parking fees is the breaking point for a visitor to not come to Vegas anymore, who knows but in a couple of years, parking fees will probably be standard.

Title is a little misleading IMO because locals will have to pay during special events.

Harrah's use to run ads saying they'd never do resort fees initially. That obviously changed over time.

Ridiculous that the fee doesn't seem to be waived for any same day pit gambling. It's not even brought up in the FAQ. Guess they are targeting rich tourists who don't give a **** and not nitty AP tourists like me who do.

This sucks. I liked playing at Aria. Do you think they would catch on if one were to borrow a friends Nevada DL or Pearl mlife card? I'm def not going to pay $10 a day. How hard is it to get Pearl status anyways? Would it be worth it trying to get it playing bj or betting red or black on roulette or some ****?
