MGM casinos now charging for parking.. MGM casinos now charging for parking..

Just self parked at Aria and they are definitely charging. Used my players card to get in. My parking experience was not improved though.

Edit: Aria still looks pretty busy. If there is a loss in business or a boycott then nobody would really notice IMO.

The poker room isn't as busy but I don't know how much that has to do with parking or the fact the weekend is over.

Really hope this backfires. They're starting to do charge at Florida as well.

Yes. I do this all the time when I'm in town for work.

I've already been annoyed at confused drivers that are trying to get in the garages. I wish I knew what percentage of drivers are shocked like these two below:

Quote:
While most customers were bewildered with the parking systems, others were angry.

“They’re making a big mistake,” Frank Murphy, a guest at Aria from Tallahassee, Florida, said of MGM. “I’ve been coming to Vegas for 30 years and I can’t believe they’re doing this. I think they’re going to lose a lot of local business.”

And almost as if to put an exclamation mark on his statement, Murphy and his wife stormed back to their car about 10 minutes later, saying, “They’ve lost my business.”

Your writing is unclear, but it appears that you're saying that hotels in Florida are just now starting to charge for parking. If that is what you meant, then lol. Downtown hotels in Florida metro areas such as Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, etc., have charged for parking for decades. And many hotels in resort areas do it as well. I was just visiting with friends over the weekend who were staying at the Lowes Hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. When I checked to see what the parking charge would be for a couple of hours, I found out it was $31 to valet during the day (only parking available), and $41 for overnight. And that was true even though there was a city-run parking garage right across the street with rates of $2/hour. (Guess where I parked.)

Oh, and there is a $26/day resort charge as well.

The article's description of that guy and his wife reminded me of the angry cop who is yelling at the gay front desk agent in Fear and Loathing. If they are anywhere near like that couple I don't think MGM will be missing them - I think they are trying to show them the door and not let it hit them on the way out, MGM doesn't want the butt prints of the poor on their glass doors

Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa started charging this week. That's probably what he was referring to.

Which casino in downtown Miami did you think he was talking about?

The argument that people who are going to spend a lot of money in the casino shouldn't and won't give a crap about $10 for parking is assuming people are logical when it comes to money, which they are not.

There are a gazillion examples economists can give you that show people behave irrationally all the time when making decisions with $.

People who have been accustomed to a lifetime of free parking at casinos are going to have a very emotional reaction to a parking fee and are not necessarily going to weigh how "small" the fee is relative to other expenses.

Where in my post do you see the word casino? For that matter, where in the post of the person to whom I replied do you see the word casino?

Then why on earth are you bringing up parking prices in downtown Miami? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Nat, why would ANY business want to discourage ANY customer from coming to spend ANY money? MGM owns how many properties on the strip? You're telling me they're such a well-off company that they can afford to turn away some business?

I'm sorry dozer I forgot my sarcasm/satire tags. While I meant what I said about the description of the couple, I've also been going around all cheeky saying this has all been a big plan by MGM to scoot low limit gambling people out the door to make more room for club going douche bags who buy drinks at ultra lounges instead of playing for comp drinks. They want everyone at all their resorts to either be fairly mindless whales or to look like they were an extra in Entourage.

For what it's worth I'm pretty low limit (.25 VP on max credits and $25 min bet BJ) and enjoy what I can get from the resorts for what I give them around my poker playing.

Bellagio was a bit of a cluster yesterday... when I got there in the morning, the gates were open and people were flowing in and out. When I was leaving, there was a lined backed up at the gates to get out and there was a tech running around trying to get the gates to open just to ket people out... no payments, yet.

I'm a vegas outsider nor did I read the last 55 pages, so if this has been covered already I will gladly GTFO....
Would you say that parking was ever a issue in LV? Were parking garages super full on a Friday night?

I'm looking for a reasoning behind this. I see either 1. steve always parks here but he is really just walking somewhere else and were short on parking spots or 2. lets **** joe out of 10$

is it more of option 2?

I really think it was fueled by the arena. When they didn't build a seperate parking garage for the arena they had to consider the parking situation. They likely decided to have some sort of charge at the nearby casinos for arena parking, but this was going to require a certain amount of infrastructure and once they started looking at the investment they would have to make it started to make sense to them go all the way

That is what I heard / thought at first also, but then I read elsewhere that they actually did make a new parking garage for the arena. Is that not correct?

I see nothing about a parking garage on their website. Everything I see refers to parking at nearby resorts. I think they may have dedicated portions of nearby garages to arena parking ... and may have put in new entrances/exits and walkways.

Hmm, I don't really know, but in other threads here on 2+2 people have mentioned them building a new parking garage. Maybe they are working on it but it's not finished yet?

That's not the point. Any parking constructed for the arena is going to charge ass-rape fees for big events. MGM didn't want everyone filling up their lots to avoid the parking charge. That part is reasonable to me. What's not reasonable to me is to charge people coming in to spend money in your hotel-casino when there's no arena event.

In this story it's mentioned MGM will build a parking garage behind Excalibur. Price: $450M. That's for the arena.

But this charge was done to pad the bottom line. Last year the company announced a Profit Growth Plan and this is a big part of it. Not all MGM employees are fans of it.
