The "son" use in your sentence says a whole lot about you, and it isn't good...

Look, move to _____ (fill in the blank big city). Now drive downtown to work (grinders go to casino to work), you will be parking in a pay lot, hopefully with a monthly rate...

Grinder or accountant, in some cities you have to pay to park at work... Life sucks, but you can still enjoy it

From what I've heard from Bellagio management:

75 hours of poker in the previous 12 months for Pearl (free parking).

150 hours of poker for Gold (free valet).

Poker players will be eligible for these tiers starting in May when these cards will begin to be handed out. Casinos will start charging for parking on June 1.

Are you saying people with Pearl cards will be eligible for free parking after 75 hours of poker or that poker players can earn a Pearl card with 75 hours of play and then get free parking?

What would the economic conditions have to be to start this service and charge $6/car to get to/from strip on a shuttle? Maybe you make a little extra dough on advertising on your buses. Maybe it's a business plan for the casinos just off the strip. I dunno, for now it's useless.
Indian casinos in CA contract with bus companies to pick up gamblers in town. That works because old people don't like to drive an hour to the casino. LV is not that big.

Maybe restaurants with ample parking could do a dinner/casino package and work a comp deal with a casino that needs patrons. (e.g. Hooters)

I'm interpreting this as: For the first time mlife will be giving tier points for hours played in their poker rooms. 75 hours played = earning a Pearl Mlife card which will grant the holder free self parking. 150 hours played = earning a Gold Mlife card which will entitle you to the free self parking as well as free Valet parking and whatever other discounts and "perks" come with a gold mlife card.

As always room comps, freeplay and benefits that matter will still be based on play in the casino regardless of what tier level mlife card you have.

I read it the same way.

^That's how I read it too.

Just having Pearl and Gold cards doesn't do much for you. So besides free parking/valet the poker players won't get much out of this. But I wasn't expecting them to go this far so I'm actually happy about this if it's true.

Will the parking fee be waived for hotel guests? maybe the bull**** resort fee will cover it?

Would be ridiculous to charge a hotel patron to park no?

Simply having a Pearl/Gold card will be sufficient for parking/valet. There will now be an additional way to earn these cards and that will be from putting in 75/150 hours of play in the poker room.

It would be pretty hilarious if they implemented a policy requiring all of the hardcore blackjack/slots/craps players to play a bunch of poker if they wanted to park for free though. What a sh#t show that would be.

So is Pearl basically useless other than not having to pay for parking that nobody ever had to pay for?

From MGM website:

Pearl – Tier Multiplier: 10 percent bonus on points and Express Comps, 10 percent discount at participating retail shops, buffet line passes (Las Vegas only)

Gold – Tier Multiplier: 20 percent bonus on points and Express Comps, priority hotel check-in line, VIP line access to nightclubs and pool day clubs

Is there anything like lounges (similar to CET diamond lounges) or free monthly show tickets that go with Pearl or Gold cards?

Also, any info about using poker comps without vouchers or pooling comps from different casinos?

Yeah I've looked at that stuff before and unfortunately the stuff you get for Pearl and Gold cards (and even Platinum) is a joke.

Some of the extra benefits you get for Platinum are priority valet and taxi services and at least a 15% discount at retail stores. I did a double take when I looked at the list because I thought the extra stuff they give for Platinum was really lame. Are people going to put a bunch of extra money in the machines because they are motivated to get a Platinum card and get priority taxi services?

Pearl will be worth a lot when they add the restroom fees, casino entrance fees, drink fees, etc.

This has been answered numerous times in this thread, most recently just a couple of days ago (#909).

Why? Hotels and resorts in cities all around the country charge guests for parking. In fact, in many locales, you don't even have the option to self park; you are just automatically charged for valet parking. Las Vegas has been an anomaly.

Yes bc areas with next to no parking where the hotel will only make money off of you from what you spend at the hotel is totally different from a casino who should do everything in their power to get you in the door.

vegas isn't an anomaly btw.most places that want your business don't charge for parking.

What is unusual about this move is that hotels that normally charge for parking are only charging tourists. MGM will mostly be charging locals since most tourists don't rent cars.

Again, you really seem to be unfamiliar with parking issues and policies in major cities. Disregarding the point I already made regarding hotels in every major city charging guests to park their cars, restaurants in these same urban areas also charge for parking. And if the restaurant itself doesn't charge for parking, then other private entities or municipalities charge for parking in lots or on the street. It is rare in some urban areas for restaurants to have their own parking lot where patrons can park at no charge.

I live in NYC I'm pretty familiar with how ****ty parking can be in a major city. There's a reason i don't drive into manhattan and if a tourist is staying at a hotel there of course the hotel is gonna charge them (or they'll park in some outside expensive lot)I've never paid to park in a restaurant lot anywhere. You're right that outside lots may charge when resteraunts don't have parking- but that's a space issue which Vegas doesn't have. There aren't restaurants in Vegas without parking.

Vegas isn't Manhttan Chicago or SF. They're risking keeping locals away with these policies- even though casinos literally pay to get customers in the building in other places.Even in LA I didn't have to pay for parking at hotels or the casinos.

Platinum is basically useless. The extra tier multiplier on machines is about the only thing that has tangible value. Skipping a taxi line doesn't mean anything unless there is a taxi line, and front-of-line valet is literally meaningless, unless valet is seriously backed up.
