This would be about the worst way to get from downtown to Venetian. There are two buses that go down the strip from downtown.

The main bus that people know is the Deuce. It will drop you off at Treasure Island, and then you can cross the street to Venetian. It's like 15 stops, though, and will take about a half hour.

The other bus you can take is the SDX. It will drop you off at Fashion Show Mall, and then you cross both streets to get to the Venetian. A bit more walking, but the entire trip will be quicker overall.

$5 for a single trip or $7 for a 24 hour pass.

I've taken the WAX bus from the Westcliff Transit Center in Summerlin all the way to the airport. Nice, modern bus with great A/C. No problems, felt very safe, was right on time.

I host friends from Europe a lot, and many of them have taken the buses to downtown and the strip with no problems.

Obviously Las Vegas isn't the safest city in the world, but it's not the most unsafe. I'm a firm believer that if you are smart about your surroundings, you will have no problem. I've traveled on many buses in US and abroad and have never been mugged or had any other problems.

That being said, I'm not taking any buses in Detroit any time soon.

It's a tourist Mecca. It's busy all the time. It's busier on weekends. Slowest days, I think, are Wednesday and Tuesday. Monday still has folks left over from the weekend and by Thursday early arrivals are showing up. But there are always multiple NL1/2 games going somewhere.

Thanks for the response ... any particular casinos you would recommend on a weekday for 1/2? Last time I was in Vegas, I played at the Venetian, Bellagio, and Caesars (which was 1/3) but I didn't really enjoy it ... don't get me wrong, the venue was excellent but it was kind of intimidating for a novice player like myself ... everyone took the game so seriously, lol

Check out the Poker Grump's Blog. He regularly plays $1/$2 at "non-traditional" poker rooms and talks about them extensively.

Those three rooms are fairly series and "stuffy" in a way. For a more fun environment try out MGM, Planet Hollywood, and Flamingo.

I know this isn't an observation of that guys blog that necessarily belongs in this forum but this moron is posting images of checks he receives from merge skins / that in of it self is going to keep me from contributing any more hits to his website

He only posted the image of one check to make the point I think on how fast he got a cash out. But yes I would agree it is a stupid thing to do. Still I think there are better reasons to keep from contributing hits to his website

It's like poker's version of a reality television show. I question why I'm reading his blog, go to click unsubscribe, but just can't bring myself to do it. I HAVE to see what he says next.

At 8am during a slow mid-week, games can be hard to find in the small rooms. At 8pm, never a problem except at the few struggling most to survive. But I agree, the atmosphere in the biggest rooms can be stuffy (some stuffier than others).

BravoPokerLive.com or their phone app will point you at rooms that have games going. But MGM Resorts doesn't play with BravoPokerLive so their rooms don't show up. So you can either not play in the smaller MGMResorts rooms outside of the prime afternoon and evening hours when you know there will be a game, or call 'em to ask, or just show up and take your chances and plan to walk to other casinos if your first choice is dark.

Good thing I'm still sound asleep at 8 am, haha. I'll probably be out at the pool during the day, and play some poker at night ... guess I'll have to check out the smaller rooms then for the friendly games

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for this.

New question: what's the best comedy show to see this week? Are there any comedy clubs you would recommend?

Cheers

Now we are going back late October/early November

M life states that you lose you're points if you dont play for 12 months. We are going to be arriving right on the mark, if not a couple of days past the 12 month window of our last play

90% of my points I recieved on table games, so can I use these for my hotel stay and do you think I could still use my points if I show up a few days after the 12 month expiry period and beg them

fyi I cannot get there a week earlier or anything, I'm already getting there the absolute earliest I can. Also not living in the US so calling the M Life number isnt practicle but if its the only way I could work it out

Cheers
I emailed Mlife about the issue and got a response that on face value seems good but doesn't directly ease my concerns

Arias Mlife rep stated that they don't see any reason why my comps will expire which is a strange thing to say considering it's pretty black and white when the 12 month time frame is up

However if they do expire before November I'll be issued a credit for the amount as long as I stay at the Aria.

So it looks like I'm good and will be able to use them

Can anyone offer a recommendation on where to live in the green valley area? I'm looking for a 1 br apartment with a decent gym+pool for when I head out there in sept/oct.

There seems to be a ton of options, all with plenty of very positive and very negative reviews online. Was hoping to get some advice from people that have lived or stayed there before.

Vegas cops so much better then east coast cops.
Was stuck in traffic on Vegas Blvd with no seatbelt and had to answer a text.
2 bike cops stop me, I kiss ass and they let me go.

I have a few hundred in o'sheas chips. Can I do anything with these?

Also,

The Mexicans on bridge from caesars to the bellagio doing the cup and ball game, or find the red king or w/e. How dumb can people be? This Asian lady lost $1500 I watched for 3 minutes.

People can be very dumb.... they play 6:5 blackjack after all.

They 3-bet 52s out of position.

At the El Cortez, I watched a lady for $5-blackjack re-buy in for $100 put in a $5 bet and place the remaining $95 on royal-match. She left broke.

Is 3-card Monte and the shell and pea game legal in Las Vegas? I can't believe it is on the street, but could it be a legal casino activity? Last time I saw it was in Miami. They took off running when a police car was spotted. I've never seen it in LV.

Ask the cage at Flamingo if they'll take O'Shea's chips. I suspect they will, but I'm not sure. There is potentially a time limit--casinos can retire chips and render them valueless after a 60-day or 90-day waiting period. If CET put out the public notices, the clock could be ticking (or already have ticked).

3-Card Monte is usually played behind the bridge supports where cops on the street can't see 'em. No, LVMPD is not going to be pleased with folks fleecing tourists on the bridges. But it's entertaining to watch--kinda like watching a magic show where you know there's a trick, but you're just not spotting it.

It goes, in this order:

6:5 blackjack
penny slots
the big wheel
Casino War
Whatever carnival version of hold'em it is in the pit
three card monte played on an overpass

It was a black guy with 4 mexicans working for him the whole time. (I've seen him the last 2 times i've gone) He would go soooooooo slow and make it obvious where it was at, the shill mexicans would win and win and someone was dumb enough to say that they can spot it, give him 100, and do it a few more times.

It is for sure illegal, just insane how stupid some people could be.

Yup, there's a big taxi line just outside of the baggage claim area. 2 days from now is Wednesday, so you shouldn't have to wait more than a minute or two for a cab. Cash only, unless you feel like paying an overpriced service fee to use your credit card.
