the Deli is also awesome, the sweets are to die for and punch well above their weight, portions are BIG. Corn beef sadistic is really tops.
sit down restaurants:
the Zenshin asian bistro is good... and slants slightly towards Japanese even though it's all inclusive asian.
Silverado Steak house is decent and I always get the lobster bisque and aged rib eye with good results.
the rest of the restaurants are tenable but not very memorable.
on a side note... South Point Casino absolutely PUMPS and is quite busy nearly every single day. there is a LOT of action there even when other top tier casinos are slow and empty. it really is surprising how busy there are on an ongoing daily basis compared to other casinos... and it does so without being scummy and low brow.
They "absolutely pump" because of focus, planning and understanding their market. In the market they've defined and seek to serve, they are really the absolute best.
SP is extremely focused on a mix of the locals market and value-seeking California drive-in business. Their management and focus come from the top-down, having been perfected at the Gold Coast but moved to a much better venue they built at the ideal location for both the entire South end of the Valley and SoCal drive-in folks. Their "location, location, location" is easily accessible from either the west or east across the "South" valley, or the Interstate coming from SoCal, with good roads and plenty of free parking. Moreso than does Primm, Nevada, they are close enough to "Las Vegas" so as not to sacrifice business tht wants proximity to more traditional Strip attractions, including discount shopping and entertainment options. Finally, SP offers "hotel value", their rooms are huge and value-priced compared to other hotel properties.
They really understand their market, and its not the same as what you call "other top tier casinos". The only other casino operator with as honed a "locals" focus would be the Stations group. Aside from SP and Stations, the M Hotel, (as in Marnell ?), seems a similar "locals/SoCal" concept to SP, has a nice physical hotel plant and when we used to stop by, it offered good quality.
(You can add to the "locals/SoCal" focus an historic enthusiasm by the SP ownership for the Western/Rodeo market, cheap/free entertainment and fortunatetly for 2+2 viewers, for poker..)
I'd be surprised if any significant headcount portion of their business flies in to town.
