Johnny Rockets?

idk fwiw the only other thing that looks good there is their buffet. unfortunately, u may have to battle a bunch of locals to gain a seat.

fwiw the pan roast isn't literally the only must-eat meal at the Palace Station Oyster Bar. I've had other great meals there.

if u get a seat there, just scroll down their menu. Anything else u see on there should taste as good it appears (yes I am speaking from experience).

The deli in the sports book does great work at SP.

Outside of the famous hotdogs by the sportsbook I really can’t. I’m not sure there is a worse major hotel to eat in vegas. I know it’s a bit out of the way from the other hotels, but vegas has so many great food options don’t limit yourself to your hotel.

Their mid-high range restaurants are fine. You can have a nice dinner at the prime rib place or the Mexican place. But boy it doesn’t feel great if it isn’t comped. Like others have said, the deli is good but not as good as bagel cafe. Not the best part of town for noncasino food either. Rent a car? Lol

ETA: never tried the Asian place, Italian, or the oyster bar there.

It's an odd confluence of why we are staying there. Going with my brother and his wife. The weekend we are going is when Texas A&M plays Alabama and Texas plays Oklahoma. His wife loves betting on sports and is addicted to the VSIN gambling network and wants to see where they broadcast from. Hence, we are spending a day downtown to check out the Circa sports book.

Already have a list of off-site restaurants to eat at thanks to this thread. Uber/cab for us as that's cheaper than a DUI. Thanks for the input on the options at Southpoint. I'm old enough now to fit in with the locals and will show the nits what's up at the poker table.

At south point:
fast low end, the Hotdog cart up to 1700 hours, a buck fifty for an all beef hotdog with a small allotment of condiments. two max per visit. WIN!

the Deli is also awesome, the sweets are to die for and punch well above their weight, portions are BIG. Corn beef sadistic is really tops.

sit down restaurants:

the Zenshin asian bistro is good... and slants slightly towards Japanese even though it's all inclusive asian.

Silverado Steak house is decent and I always get the lobster bisque and aged rib eye with good results.

the rest of the restaurants are tenable but not very memorable.

on a side note... South Point Casino absolutely PUMPS and is quite busy nearly every single day. there is a LOT of action there even when other top tier casinos are slow and empty. it really is surprising how busy there are on an ongoing daily basis compared to other casinos... and it does so without being scummy and low brow.

Thanks MSchu! We're not picky eaters. I see a lot of dogs in my future!

Been there seen everything on the strip, so looking forward to a different experience. Most of our time will be spent degening sports bets in the books anyway.

Since we're speaking of SP generally, it's been a few years but I loved my 2-3 trips to Michael's.

It's def not innovative or trendy, but they really deliver on the fancy restaurant vibe. Well dressed, highly attentive staff. High class, old school decor. Feels like a place rich people would eat in a movie from the 50s.

not sure if it counts as casual dining but I went to Herbs and Rye with a group of friends during their happy hour - super impressed with the quality and price range of everything ordered. like every steakhouse, the sides are a bit of a scam, but the meat was brilliant.

hard disagree with this opinion (to be clear, in the context of steakhouses in general, not specifically Herbs & Rye)

If you really value attentive service this is a great place to go if money isn’t a factor. I don’t think I would recommend Michaels ever but both meals I had a really great time and environment, especially the one I didn’t pay.

Never hear this burger talked about the one at tbones is very very good. Quality meat that is always cooked perfectly rare for me which is far from a given. It might be a little boring to be in best burger category, but after having a lot of average burgers recently this one hit the spot. My wife is also a French onion soup connoisseur and they make the best one in Las Vegas if that’s your thing.

Go to Yukon pizza if you want a great burger and you can probably get 3 for the price you paid at T-Bones.

Steiner’s is excellent bar food, their fries/onion rings/homemade chips are great. Have always loved that place and there are 3 locations.

Different type of burger too although I know that’s a great spot. I know smash burgers are the rage because anyone can make them with no skill, but hard to replace a steakhouse burger with the best quality meat.

They "absolutely pump" because of focus, planning and understanding their market. In the market they've defined and seek to serve, they are really the absolute best.

SP is extremely focused on a mix of the locals market and value-seeking California drive-in business. Their management and focus come from the top-down, having been perfected at the Gold Coast but moved to a much better venue they built at the ideal location for both the entire South end of the Valley and SoCal drive-in folks. Their "location, location, location" is easily accessible from either the west or east across the "South" valley, or the Interstate coming from SoCal, with good roads and plenty of free parking. Moreso than does Primm, Nevada, they are close enough to "Las Vegas" so as not to sacrifice business tht wants proximity to more traditional Strip attractions, including discount shopping and entertainment options. Finally, SP offers "hotel value", their rooms are huge and value-priced compared to other hotel properties.

They really understand their market, and its not the same as what you call "other top tier casinos". The only other casino operator with as honed a "locals" focus would be the Stations group. Aside from SP and Stations, the M Hotel, (as in Marnell ?), seems a similar "locals/SoCal" concept to SP, has a nice physical hotel plant and when we used to stop by, it offered good quality.

(You can add to the "locals/SoCal" focus an historic enthusiasm by the SP ownership for the Western/Rodeo market, cheap/free entertainment and fortunatetly for 2+2 viewers, for poker..)

I'd be surprised if any significant headcount portion of their business flies in to town.

I think a lot of their focus is niche related, southwest, nascar and western genre.

this weekend there is a GREAT event there starting today thru sunday. it's the CMSA Lakota western championship. this event showcases CMSA... Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, so its a competition with MOUNTED riders trying to shoot targets. I am so there to watch this!

My brother got into this for awhile, but sadly the horse he trusted died. Not all horses can handle the space and the noise.

Went to Gordon ramsays burger place last night. Food is actually better than it needs to be because with the name recognition it would be packed regardless. Wings, onion rings, and truffle burger were all 7/10 or better. Definitely worth it if you are on that side of the strip.

Unfortunately, I will not be in Las Vegas until mid-week. However, that is precisely why I think SP is great.

NFR time is a fun crowd and decent traffic for poker also.

I'm going in December to test out this hypothesis, as I was unable to find any TRs. Is the decent poker traffic only at Southpoint, or on the strip as well? I'm thinking that the rooms near the convention center might see some action because of the Cowboy Christmas show and some rodeo events.
