The Nevada Brew works burger was over cooked. If it hadn’t been I’d say it was much better.

Why would you get the burger at a BBQ place?

Please do! But damn! I'm gonna need a caretaker.

Or perhaps an undertaker.

Because I feel like I can get better bbq back home and because it’s one of there signature dishes and a bit unique.

Same question could be asked of my next burger choice, the smashed burger at Yukon Pizza. It was really solid but yeah the slice of pizza I had was even better and their dough + that oven makes unreal pizza. I looked forward to the crust the pizza dough was that good.

I’ve actually counted 11. I don’t think I had more than a drink at any of these and I generally went by foot and or Uber over a period of 2+ weeks. Feel like lost tourists actually drink a lot more than that.

Fair enough, love your posts.

And love everything I’ve had at Yukon as well.

Speaking of John Curtas, 1228 which he has championed more than any other place I can think of was a huge bust for me. I hate the arts district so maybe keep that in mind but the food was very bland and mediocre, the order at the counter system felt like a cafeteria, and daily bread which has a similar concept is superior in every way. My wife and I sort of were in a haze afterwards just thinking that can't be the same restaurant that he claimed was so good it could change the area.

Huh, never realized you were from W NY. Was just up there a few weeks back, nice area.

Yeah interesting, 4.5 stars, 115 reviews on Yelp. I mean looking at the pictures it looks similar to Public Us or The Daily Bread that you mentioned. However yeah if you don’t like the Arts District it seems like a show stopper. I feel the same way about Summerlin.

I saw that, love your blog. The Finger Lakes are nice and seem to be going through a renaissance. I still think I’d prefer your area of Colorado though.

Genuine question, why do you hate the Arts District ?

I think generally speaking that the development of that area has been a big plus for Las Vegas in terms of casual dining and a non-casino environment.

Aside from the monthly "First Friday" locus-like swarm , I think the area is a worth a visit.

I guess I’m 39 going on 79. I don’t like tattoos, pot, kombucha, homeless people, and it’s an area I would never let my wife be without me for safety purposes.

The general vibe down there even if I was to discard that I’m worried my car will be there when I get back is always too dumbed down for me. I like more serious service at restaurants, I prefer places that require a more upscale dress code.

Either way I just thought it was important to add that I don’t like the area, but that wasn’t the reason I thought 1228 was sort of a disaster. Daily bread is awesome btw.

I'm 69 going on 70 (hopefully). (I have a closet full of business suits I haven't worn in years, the dress code in Las Vegas is "enough-to-not-get-arrested" and I am considering a tattoo when/if I make it to 70 this September.)

I think you're passing on some first rate dining places. Esther's Kitchen is my go-to for weekend brunch.

Besides, what place/discourse/marketing isn't "dumbed down", generally.

Think food is slightly better at Esther’s, Al solito which is owned by same people in summerlin is a better atmosphere. And Osteria fiorella and north Italia are better than both.

Summerlin however lacks a soul. (Al soito admittedly does have a great menu, I've been up that way a couple of times.)

I felt the same way abt summerlin til I moved there. Very easy to live there and much less of the BS I dealt with when I lived at Rancho and Oakey, even if I loved my neighborhood and neighbors and house over there. I still love the Arts District. Vesta was the first good coffee I found in LV (there is much more now) and I worked out of there a lot when I quit my job and started my own firm. And when I upgraded to an office it was on Main Street just N of Charleston. Now I work out by ikea and I love the ease of getting around, I never deal w traffic etc, but I also feel disconnected from the latest and greatest downtown, chinatown, arts district, etc.

I buy and grind whole bean coffee, the best I’ve found (much better than Vesta) is at Yaw which is on Charleston just west of Rainbow. Their drinks are wonderful too. Highly recommend. Anyone know of any other great roasters in town? Vesta is okay, Mothership is worse.

I'd feel differently as a single guy, but with all of the crazy amount of crime in this city now there is a ton to be said for safety, behind a guard gate on a golf course. I do get the soulless element, but I would say it is even worse in henderson with every bar or dining option being some sort of chain.

I went to the Racael's Kitchen in Henderson Not exactly a hidden gem, But, one thing they have more of out in the suburbs and we lack here in the hood is healthy restaurants.

I had the chicken salad sandwich. So, not extremely healthy but perhaps the best I've had. Very good juice and salad to go with it.

My food was delivered by a robot waiter. A first for me.

Yaw is excellent. But super expensive and they only serve their drinks with oat milk if memory serves. We buy Vesta beans most of the time to keep it local. I prefer Dark Moon, which is also very very good imo.

Man you couldn’t be more wrong. All 4 corners of that intersection are great neighborhoods. Southeast is the worst of the four and it’s still nice. We had a few friends living in there. McNeil, Rancho Bonito, and Scotch 80 are all prime places to live

I know that area very very well... specially where the mayor is and the neighborhood with the rabbits. It's a great area. I've been to the Goodman home several times.
I know just about every business and owner up and down western/highland personally.
Mordechai is a friend of mine, I know Danny from counts customs steve from weldurup and Mike from exotic paints works.

Stanton social was a complete miss. Vibe of 90s rap and r&b might appeal to plenty of poker players but it’s not my style. Feel like Best Friend does one of the best jobs of a super casual environment with strip pricing and it normally is a miss for me. I ate at the bar and had lobster Mac for 60 bucks, pierogi for 20, and a really great tiny cheesesteak slider for 15. If I had 6 cheesesteaks I think I would have left happy. I’m a big believer in asking staff for recommendations, lobster Mac was in an incredibly sweet sauce that I needed to salt and pepper to death to make it somewhat palatable, pierogi made me think I will wait another ten years to have another one. Super friendly bartenders.

Really hoping to find another yardbird like place on the strip to bring my wife for date night. Most of our go to strip restaurants are now super expensive.
