I mean obviously it wasnt convenient as theres nothing around there except crack valley and the stratosphere. Nothing a 7-8 dollar uber ride cant fix though. We took an uber from there to tmobile arena for 7 bucks and from SLS to fremont for 8.

If i was a tourist and planned on seeing/walking around Vegas theres no way i would stay here. We just used it pretty much as a place to sleep after the Knights game and it was free.

Venetian has poker rates on their website, although it's changed slightly in the last year or so and is less clear. Per Bravo, Harrah's has poker rates but dunno where to find details.

Has anyone stayed at The Plaza Hotel & Casino in the Freemont Street area recently? Is it a total dump or OK?

There's a jamband festival being held their in a few weeks, and if you want to attend the music festival you're forced to stay at the hotel (it's a package deal).

I stayed there last year. I would rate it as better than the Fremont and maybe on the same level or slightly better than the El Cortez. I ran into a couple who said they had to switch rooms because their old one stank of weed.

I'm kind of low maintenance, so I don't have much use for fancy hotel rooms. The bed didn't give me problems sleeping, the room was large enough that I didn't feel closed in by the walls, and it didn't feel dirty. I don't need much more than that for my usual poker-oriented Vegas trip. It might not be what I would choose for a romantic assignation.

I approve of the selection of scotch at Oscar's.

I would not mind staying there again.

Could be mistaken, but I think the rooms have been refurbed recently, and they look fine on Youtube.

Pay for the room, check in, and then go stay where you want.

I checked Venetian and Aria recently. Wrote about it in the General Discussion Thread.

Aria has a summer promo on their poker rate.

Quote:
SUMMER RATES: May 25- August 31 are $129 + $39 resort fee + tax Sunday through Thursday ($190.48) and $159 + $39 resort fee + tax Friday and Saturday ($224.49) .
The fine print:

Poker rates are offered for ARIA Standard Deluxe Rooms with your request of king bed or 2 queens. (Based on availability at check in, not guaranteed.)

Need 5 hours of play per room. So if you are two people you can split the hours.

Cancellation Policy is 72 hours prior to the arrival date.

Venetian rates are actually not as good as a year ago. Used to be $119 for weekdays and $179 for weekends (before resort fees and tax) with 6 hours of play per day on the room. And any King or Double Queen Suite qualified.

Now they reduced the types of rooms which qualify (double queen is now $30 extra per night).

They have 3 price tiers: $99, $139 and $179, but there is no fixed method for which rate applies to which day. Just as an example I checked the prices for 12 nights in June and with the exception of 1 night, the rate of $179 was quoted for the whole stay.
And finally, you have to book your room over the phone (they used to let you book online and claim the rate at checkout).

Some of the properties have the contact listed on Bravo...I forget what the rate at Aria was or the number of hours/tournaments they required to get the rate. Elayne Teitelbaum was the point of contact in the poker office. Also not sure whether the poker rates are available during WSOP or not...others who have used the rate might be able to advise.

Wife and I stayed last week of February. We had a really great time. Skip the buffet but the Oyster Bar and Bailiwicks were solid food. Great value if you don't need to be on the strip IMO.

Don’t.

But if you do, try to get a suite near the elevators so you only hear everything in the room on one side of you perfectly. Suites have no fridge, coffee maker or clock.

However, each room comes with 2 pair of earplugs, and that was at the end of March 2018 when most of the rooms were completed. The suite faced south (minamal construction but they start around 6am).

Food options are limited and casino atmosphere is horrible.

Delano or Vdara for a week in early July? Just me - I value decent gym and pool, proximity to poker and nice vibe. Travelling to and from Rio for ME for as long as that lasts so also don't want/need parties happening in the next room

I'm currently getting Vdara $15ish per night cheaper but Delano intrigues me. Given the above...is it worth looking into or should I stick with Vdara?

Vdara for location--near Aria and Cosmo, and it's a nice hotel.

Vdara probably the nicest hotel I’ve stayed at. If it’s comprable go there. I disliked not having a casino but the walk to Bellagio is super quick on the cut through

Vdara gym is nice, but it’s pretty small. Might not be an issue if you are on a poker player schedule, but it gets pretty busy between 6-8AM when business travelers go.

Thanks and yeah, it looked pretty small from the pics

Anybody know if Vdara guests can access Aria pool and gym for free?

Gym and pool quality is why I always end up at the Venetian or Palazzo but I’d like to branch out.

Aria is about $40 per night more expensive for me right now which is too much

Short answer is 'no' but you can ask the concierge at Vdara for a Aria pool guest pass. I've done that a couple of times and always got one immediately, but no idea if they would say something if you tried to get one every day. Not sure if they have Aria gym passes as well, never asked for one.

One good thing about the Vdara pool area is that they have a million umbrellas to eliminate the 'death ray' issue so you have no problem finding a spot that's covered if you don't want to sit in the sun.

If you are looking for a non-casino hotel with full access to huge pool and gym areas, MGM Signature guests can use all the MGM Grand amenities for free.

coming over again for wsop 29th june to 6th july so not a long trip at all.
found an awesome deal RIO for like 550usd. i usually stay at vdara but naturally thats way more expensive probably like 1500usd.

i only play 2/5-5/10 and may shot 10/20 this trip so no real need to be close to tourneys but the price of rio attracted me.

pros and cons of rio compared to something more expensive? Ive never stayed at rio and prob wont have a car so thinking transport may be annoying especially when finishing cash games at like 3am....

thoughts?

Large out-dated looking rooms. Mini fridge, tub. Small cramped gym. Mediocre dining. Great cash action during WSOP. I've done extended stays here a few times and will be staying there again this year for several weeks due to convenience and price.

Top of the list of nicest basic rooms in Vegas. Keep in mind though that Tower and Resort are identical rooms- with Tower Suites you’re paying extra for a separate entrance with a shorter line.
