Age-old trick is to fill all wastebaskets and the sink with ice from the ice machine. Put perishables/drinks in ice.

Heading to TI in a few weeks, and will definitely try the $20 trick and resort fee waiver request. We booked through JetBlue vacations, so I should be able to feign ignorance at the resort fee. Maybe a $50 trick instead?

Anyone have any opinions about what to do with 5 guests, hoping to stay at either Aria or Vdara, and are okay having one person sleep in a pull out sofa. Need either 1 king and 2 queens, or 2 kings and 1 pull out sofa, but the info on their sites about pull out sofas aren't very clear.

I’ve never done that there but did it easily in the Bella suites at the V and Palazzo

Pig Trust me I did call the front desk I also talked with the cleaning staff to see if any of the rooms (Deluxe, Classic, or even the "Luxury") might have one that could be "transferred".

I believe some of the truly nice (expensive) rooms do but in general the standard rooms .... regardless of their marketing title .... simply did not

My room was an ordinary one and it had one. They told you at the front desk that you're not supposed to have one?

Pig - I absolutely called the front desk and requested one - they were courteous but they said the Rio rooms did not come with a coffee machine nor were any available. My friend was also staying in the Ipanema tower and his room did not have one either.

10 days without a coffee machine took a bit of getting used to but I was to lazy to go shopping and buy one :-)

Side note - I actually found the staff to be Prompt, pleasant, reasonable and accommodating in general - I am NOT a high demand customer but have only positives to say regarding them. Can't say the same for the physical aspects of the property but I knew that going in and opted for the location convenience. I would not stay at the Rio except for the WSOP

I remember years ago, Rio rooms had those regular pad coffee makers. Then, they switched to Keurig machines but somebody told me they started charging for K-Cups at some point? Last couple of times I've been in a Rio room (as a non hotel guest) I can't remember seeing a coffee maker at all, so either I just didn't see them or they got rid of them?

Not Rio (or even LV) related, but a while ago a friend posted on FB that people could pick up a couple hundred coffee makers for free at the hotel he works at. Apparently they now lease out their coffee shop spaces to a chain that pays a significant premium to not have coffee makers in the hotel rooms.

Do they offer free coffee in lobby somewhere? or is this a ploy to get people to the starbucks?

There are no rooms with two kings or one king/two queens anywhere in Vegas...if I'm reading that correctly. You'll find one-king or two-queen rooms, some with pullout some not. As was suggested, Venetian/Palazzo is a good bet for that.

Keep in mind you can also request a rollaway cot anywhere.

Heh, you could have had mine. I don't drink coffee.

Besides the WSOP I really like that fridge. I went through two cases of Walmart water while I was there. Also Gatorade, v8, and soda.

Well Crap ................ where was this sage advice for the 10 days I was there !!! LOL .......... Oh and the fridge is absolutely a great convenience OJ, Soda, fruit snacks, yogart etc are all big time positives (and money savers).

Starbucks coffee is okay but whether it is Vegas or St Louis its over priced IMO and while I might invest $7,000 or $8,000 in entry fees I never lose sight of the value of a buck and I hate to get ripped.

All things considered I felt my stay at the RIO was a reasonable deal 10 nights two weekends (including those damn fees and taxes) was under $1,000. It's not the place I would stay if the WSOP wasn't held there but the convenience just can't be beat.

Ballys had a fridge, but I didn't find it until the last day (it was hidden in a cabinet). I used the ice-in-the-sink method to keep beers/gatorade cool.

Anybody have a spa recommendation? Only been to Bellagio. Any place nicer than that? I'm staying near GVR and will stop there first and head to the Strip if it's not cool enough.

Thanks.

How did you go with the food options and the conditions in around the resort?

I always consider staying there for the convenience of travel time savings and being able to relax in my room or go to the gym on dinner breaks etc but the darkness of the casino floor and the lack of food options always scares me off

Am not him, but between Smashburger (don't like the regular but they have some nice weird burgers), the Chinese stuff next to the sportsbook, All American Burger (never got a burger there), and the occasional laziness that results in expensive room service, I found plenty. I have some mandatory visits to make when I visit (In n Out, Weinerschnitzel, etc) so I never ate the same thing more than twice, and that was only a couple times.

this is incorrect mr wrath. Wuz back behind the strat in my vehicle when a young man hopped into the back of my car unsolicited. He had a shoe on one foot and only a sock on the other. His mouth was filled with crack cocaine. He was kind enough to offer to sell me and my companion some for a reasonable price. And the strat is still a toilet
