Mike, what's up with bagging on Reno? C'mon man, come spend a few weeks in Reno before dumping all over it. Warmer than Canada but still with all the winter sports, poker legal, Lake Tahoe, $80 flight to vegas, what's not to like??

haven't got to the end of the show but without looking it up I can tell you that the guy that beat tom dwan HU was Simon Watt of New Zealand (not Australia)

Haha, I haven't gotten to this part yet.

I'm among the first to dump on Reno 'cause it strikes me as a K-Mart version of Vegas whenever I'm there. But truth be told (and I'm biased living a two-hour drive away), a part of me wishes I could physically pick up half of the Vegas Strip and drop it down on Virginia Street. When it comes to the weather and the surrounding area, I'd take Reno over Vegas any day.

Also, I think it is fair to wonder if Vanessa Rousso chose to dump Chad Brown despite his terminal cancer diagnosis. We do not know the reason for their break up. But, she is a public figure and trades on her celebrity. One might choose to avoid that which she endorses if they find out her character is poor. Does the speculation answer the question? No. But it isn't unfair to wonder aloud if she chooses to keep it quiet.
So if she comes out and says "I left Chad because I didn't love him anymore" you and the rest of the world would be content with that statement? Would you be willing to never consider that the return of his cancer was the reason she left because she said so? Do you really expect that, if she makes any statement about it, its going to include her saying "It was because of his cancer"?

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

I'm curious as a matter of triva knowledge; in this show you mention the above line is used for audio tests. I've always known it as a typing lession as it contains all the characters of the alphabet.

Was your statement a mistake or is it actually used as an audio test?

Probably a mistake.

Found it odd that Daniel had such a strong distaste towards Badacey and Badeucey considering that it's a game where good players are so consistently making the same draw mistakes over and over. Your ability to bluff in the game is about as situational as your ability to bluff in Stud8, but there are still elements of deception.

It's such a commonality for players who may not fully grasp all of the complexities of a game to write them off. Take Razz, for example, where people project the simplicity of the rules ( just make the best 5 card low hand ) into what they deem to be a basic game with little skill. Or a game like Badugi, where people feel as though they're at the mercy of the draw gods, and the entire game looks like a lottery to them. I wouldnt think that this is especially the case with Daniel, and give him the benefit of the doubt in being adept enough at the games, but something is wrong if you're a sound poker player who is not embracing the opportunity to play a game like this, with a group of people who collectively wont be better than average at the variant. My only gripe is when it is being played at a 8 handed table, where two are forced to sit out, and that it can play very slowly quite often.

Thanks for the Pokercast

Why do Adam and Mike both refer to Ryan Eriquezzo as a "gentleman"?

He is nowhere close to that. In fact he is a douchebag girlfriend beater with a temper.

It's a common term for a male and neither of us have ever met him. You clearly know him well.

Mike, do you have a link to the Norway study? I found summary reporting online, but I'd like to see the original results.

Since it's a story now (Chainsaw got ahold of it), you ought to ask your boy Negreanu - of whom I've always been a fan - about this Choice Center thing. It would be good to hear him talk about the situation and address some of the more legitimate questions that have been raised here. I suppose it might be a bit before you have him on again, though.

Grocery store and vegetables > being in Vegas (not playing wsop event)

I was listening to the podcast and I might be wrong but I think it was Jeff Madsen who said Robert Mizrachi invented the game Super Stud. Ohhh really... Did he invent the wheel too?

Not sure, but It's been played in Dealers Choice games in England for a long time! I'm 27 and my friend taught me at 15, so I imagine it was around long before that. The only slight difference between the game he explained and the one we play is you get dealt the 5 cards face down. You have a round of betting. Everyone discards 2 cards and turns one of the remaining 3 cards face up and then it's played like 7 card stud hi/lo. It's pot limit too, such a great game! Lot's of action and plenty of fun

The meaning might have changed slightly as a result of the paraphrase.

I see the attraction of an annual short trip to Vegas and I understand why those without easy access to the EPT would choose to head down. I always preferred the variety of trying new cities and venues each time I went to play live. And yes, any more than 2-3 days of the vegetable-starved strip is too much in my book.
