could anyone tell me the name of the show they were talking about when they mentioned sopranos ... tanks.

I believe it was Boardwalk Empire.

WSOPE good place to lose celeb phone. Brits will never guess who Ray Zed is.

pleeeeeease stop mike from discussing the selbst hand any further. Varkonyi is not some poker genius for making a dumb bet that will never be called by a worse hand and confusing a pro. "Any time you end up confusing your opponent that must be a good thing" is just not correct. It's exactly what donks do when they bet hands that make no sense to bet against the opponent's range.

As I said in the other thread I do think she gives him too much of a hard time for it (really not necessary to jump out of your chair and say "what are you doing?!") but it's a bad play by Varkonyi. He basically has no idea if he's bluffing or value-betting since she can't call with a worse hand so the only possible positive outcome is her folding a chop.

I didn't say anything like that at all. I believe our guest may have. If you are going to quote me, then at least make sure it is remotely accurate. For people who haven't heard the show you are doing a huge disservice complaining I said something I didn't.

The only comment I made about the hand at all was that if Vanessa thinks he should only be shoving with hands stronger than Q9, then it makes her call with a hand as weak as Q9 questionable as well.

Now if I did make the comment you claim, just because you disagreed with it, doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed at all. What you are basically saying is 'If I don't agree with someone's opinion, they simply shouldn't talk'. Kind of a pompous attitude.

I wrote out a long reply detailing why varkonyi is a fish and why this

isn't right but I deleted it. Look I love the show, and you're a great host, I don't mean to come across as mean or pompous here. I almost never say anything negative in the show threads (well unless it is about the deuces cracked commercials). I apologize. Nice show this week, it was good to hear new guests who I was unfamiliar with.

Also big lols at the "polite" questions about retaining hellmuth for final table coaching and Schoenfeld's attempts to be polite in response ("well at first I'll admit I didn't think it was necessarily the greatest idea...").

I don't mind any criticism about the show at all Verstehen and I'm the first to admit that my strategy takes are rudimentary at best. Only problem I had is you quoting me saying something that I never said and claiming that I shouldn't talk about it at all just because you disagree with what your thought I said.

Criticize away, it makes for a better show thread IMO, just be fair and accurate.

As if we didn't know you were passionate about the show, Mike. I had just listened to that part when reading the comment, so replayed it. It was Adam Schoenfeld who brought it up as a point for discussion and I think that his comments made a lot of sense.

Can we have the Sklansky minute back just for one week to comment on his gap theory applying to ranges on the river?

Listening to the show driving to work. When I heard about Apollo Jett's death I had to stop my car. I know children die every minute. And I dont know the Jett family. But every single time I hear a story like that it just breaks my heart. So sad. I think of my little boy and know I would never be able to survive that blow. My thoughts are with the family.

I dont like the plug at the end of the strategy minute "be sure to listen to my new series bla bla bla". It's unecessary imo. It would be better if they left it out and Mike+Adam would mention it afterwards. Btw. Travis Steffen was a guest on one of the last Deuce Plays podcasts. It's worth listening to.

Will listen to the rest of the show on the way home. Thanks guys!

+1 absolutely...my kids are my life, but still I can only imagine the pain and sufferring that this family is going through.

Does anyone bar me complain about the birthday game? I fear it might just be me, over and over; in which case, thanks for the nod

Mike, you said you had a tough interview with Jennifer Harmon. What interview is that? Is it the one you did back in 2006 on Rounders ? Why do you say it was a tough interview?

Hey Prob2Prob. Adam(co-host) said that, not me.

That's twice in two days.

Thought Adam Schoenfeld was a great guest and came off really well.

Also interesting to hear mention of Paul Phillips. I remember him from the WPT back in the day.

I know that is not the thread to propose future guests name, but since you mentioned him in the show .... the Huck Seed Interview some years back was an all time classic, would love to hear him back....

Thanks for the great show

Random question: Was there a time when the Pokercast was produced in stereo, or am I mixing this up?

Also, her name is Harman.

I don't really know him either, but I enjoyed his interview.

Without listening to the show again, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is probably one of the following:

PokerCast Theme - Demitone Productions Inc. © 2007 : Cards & Quarters - Local Natives - Gorilla Manor © 2010 : Home - Goo Goo Dolls - Something for the Rest of Us © 2010 : Come Back - Brotha D feat. Frisko - Brotha D & The Dawn Raid Family - Volume 2 © 2010 :

edit: on a slightly less assholish note, it is Goo Goo Dolls -- Something for the Rest of Us

Adam, glad you mentioned how your wife is doing. Let her know that just because a couple weeks have gone by it doesn't mean we've stopped thinking about her. I know you know this, but just saying.

Good podcast! The Shoenfeld interview was good. I've been thinking he's too serious on the ESPN coverage. Your interview proved otherwise. Still listening to the rest of the show. I LOOOOVE how long these run. (Sorry Bunner!)
