I sent support a link to the thread Scotty started :
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28...-games-522108/

Support said the changes have already gone into effect. For every $1 in rake, the table is awarded 5vpp. Here is part of the email they sent :

im 90+% sure they will change it the system to the same system 6max now has, like people said its only fair and no poitn having different unfair system just for fr

SNEs from .5/1 and 1/2 lose stars so much money, so they wont care if not so many ppl get SNE next year

and pointless to say you will move to FTP, if you get 400k+vpps you get much more than 27% rb from FTP, and theres more tables + infinitely better support

obviously annoyed but pff changes are fair
10-24-2009 , 07:50 PM
so fullring will remain the same as it is now?
10-24-2009 , 07:58 PM
Looks like to me at least... fullring (for games 5c/10c and above) will be run like the current 6max games.. so for every $1 in rake taken in a hand 5vvps will be divided amongst the players dealt into the hand (up to $3)

looks like the most probable next step.. as 3j said, doesnt make sense for FR to be under different system

sucks for fr mega-grinders like myself..may actually have to get good at pokhers now

Most probably the person answering your e-mail is confused. Changes were made to other games some time ago.

Currently Stars are supposed to give an answer in December as to what, if any, full-ring changes will start on Jan 1. (Hopefully none.)

What? FR SNE is generally thought to be worth around 60% - 65% rackback. That would mean each FR SNE gives Stars around $60,000 of profit each year.

How did you figure that Stars loses money for each SNE!?

Well to get SNE this year i will pay stars 149,700$, of which they have to pay tax directly on that, i hear its 50%, maybe slightly less, + server costs support etc

say its even 30%, so stars gets 105,000$ from me, they already at loss, because getting SNE for your first year you get 80k cash bonus + 5k me ticket + 2 tourny packages ~ 115k (even more as SNE get sick accomodation etc),

then the year after if you maintain SNE as an SNE player you get another 4 4k bonuses

they definetely dont profit from SNEs at 100/200

lol

I think you'll find that they pay taxes on net profit, not gross revenue!

i know UK casinos have to pay tax directly on the rake they take, not net profit, is why its so hard for the hard rooms over here to run, i assume its the same in US, maybe its not

wait wait wait stars pays tax? Why the f are the servers on the isle of man (a tax haven) then?

Yeah, maybe they don't pay any.

Regardless, they make a lot of profit from NL100/200 FR SNEs.

so basically if stars nerfs the rakeback the results will be:

a) Stars supernova rakeback will still be > FTP
b) Because of (a) nothing of significance will change.

y/n?

Well, Idunno about anyone else but if the system stays good I'm considering running for SNE next year, while if it changes I'll be spreading my play between multiple sites to look for the softest tables.

yah, i think about to start playing Poker as well

maybe a professional bumhunt career at multiple sites...

Stars knows that we don't welcome the proposed changes and all we can do is wait and see what is happening...

On January 1st I will reevaluate what has the biggest value for me and go from there...

everybody who is massgrinding srsly atm and says **** like "they still have the best system and nobody will switch blabla" is sucking **** bigtime...

You are so wrong.

For USA players it might be a limited choice but not for us others. I put in 1500 hours this year and get usd 50 000 in VIP-benefits, which is a decent income. Pokerstars will profit about usd 50 000 aswell from me.

If Pokerstars get greedy, raise the effective rake and want to profit more from me I will look for other choices.

I am lucky to break even at the tables. Lot of multimega grinders are minus at the tables, and any cut on the VIP will hurt them badly and they will disappear.

Those discussed changes will for sure results in less tables running and PS will lose some of it's base: less tables running, less opportunities for the sne-grinders and a negative spiral start.

Everyone with any insight in online poker know that Pokerstars is one of the worst site to play at when we talk about opponents. It is a nit feast and have always been, even long before the present vip-system Pokerstars had the worse games compared to other more fishy sites.

So Pokerstars have to offer something exceptionally good to get so much business and the answer have been: superior customer service and an excellent VIP-system. Start to ruin this and the site start the march down.
