I've been thinking about the FTP news and at first I was very happy they are coming back and now I'm not so sure. I definately have mixed feelings.

My main concern is the segregation of the player pools yet again. If FTP comes back and eventually stabalizes to the same player pool numbers or close to the same player pool numbers it had before it closed it's going to kill the # of games running yet again.

I have a small balance on FTP, about $4k and I had written it off a long time ago. At first I was thinking a nice $4k bonus was coming my way and then I started to think what the state of the FR games would be like with FTP up and running.

It's not going to bring back any new fish as any fish who is still playing after it closed is on another site already and I have a feeling a lot of rec players who stopped playing will log in cash out and never log back in again.

I really don't think it will make the games any worse I just think that the # of games available on Stars will deteriorate pretty rapidly. At times 200nl FR only has 16-18 tables running and 400NL can have anywhere from 0-6 at any given time.

I am happy for you guys who have a lot of $$ tied up on FTP and am glad to see you gettign it back, I just have a feeling that this will quicken the eventual demise of FR at anything above 100NL pretty quickly. Guess I will have to suck it up and learn 6 max

Good read

Not convinced it'll happen, but if full ring has to die to get everyone's money back, that's fine.

i share those concerns

I took the news much differently, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't part of the agreement that these sites would be able to re-enter the US? If that's the case, is this not a good thing for FR? The largest player-base in the world is now going to be able to get back online, and likely with greater ease than before, as the government has been paid, and will likely collect a percentage of future earnings, at least from the US players? I could be way off, but I thought that even with another large site up and running, the amount of new players coming back would outweigh those leaving Stars to play on FTP. I envisioned people eventually being able to go to Walmart and buy gift cards for online poker...

Can already do this in the UK, just not from Walmart but from a fair few news agents and supermarkets etc for Stars.

They will be allowed to apply to enter the US if poker is legalized. That's a long ways down the road, if at all

True dat ^^

Biggest difference is that you can profitably get KK in pre at 6max

With a few subtle differences. Perhaps a poor choice of wording on my part. It's more or less adjusting to the increased variance, increased aggression and better overall player ability compared to the full ring games, with emphesis on the increased variance.

Full Ring is a much easier game, with far less variance and the regs overall are not as good as their counterpart 6 max regs

That's not really true at all.

Yeah, the players, and the games are different... 6-max regs have lots of trouble switching to full ring just like full ring players do going to 6-max.

love teh fr/6m arguments. imo it's way easier to be a nitty bumhunter in FR than in 6m. In 6m if u dont do battle, ur not going to win b/c regs can punish your leaks with much higher frequency
08-04-2012 , 06:38 PM
well you have one group of players striving to be nanoko and another to be vinivici
08-04-2012 , 08:21 PM
6m nlh and 6m plo at the same time
08-04-2012 , 08:40 PM
back in the day there was one crazy drunk who used to play 24 tables midstakes+ of 6max and FR. and used to win at about 3BB/100. seen it with my own eyes.
08-04-2012 , 09:50 PM
when bumhunting 6m you get a fish and 4 other players.. when bumhuting fr u get a fish and 7 other players.. i shoudl learn how to play 6max right now, and learn how the bumhunt now too for that matter

a ton of recreational poker players are getting there bankrolls back, and are going to love/trust pokerstars now. There going to start playing again, some are going to run there acct up then lose it and redeposit because it was so fun running it up. Very few long term negatives will ever come out of stars buying ftp if your a pro. poker player

6m regs way harder to play against than fr regs
