OMG. These stories make me sick every single time. Its a ****ty lesson that cost you waaaay too much to learn. No matter what dicks on the internet tell you, you don't deserve it and its easy to say they would do it different at 18yo.

NEVER give money to anyone you don't know thoroughly on the internet money EVER and even then, be VERY cautious. Never give anyone money you can't afford to lose.

well, guy I known for a long time, calls and tells me he needs 25K because his parents needed a quick cash infusion and his are tied up in the market and he can't get it till monday. (this being a late thursday, market was closed on Friday). I known the guy for a while, like we were good friends. I was also his daily manager, so I knew he was making a strong 6-digits at our company. Single guy, we talked investments a lot, Ivey league MBA etc. I was actually considering asking him to be in my wedding.

Anyways, I wired him some money, turns out he was in jail. For grouping teenage girls in the park in Rancho Sante Fe (swank place in San Dieog). The convicted him of sneaking up on young jogger, grabbing them, grouping them and then letting them go.

He gets 2 years in prison, and it turns out he took his rich girl friend for 120K, that he was investing for her, plus his own parents lots a lot. Spending most of the money on prostitutes and blow.

Gets out of jail, goes back into jail about 2 months later, gets out, goes back in. I think he has a 15 year sentence ATM.

Sorry to hear IFS. In addition to DR's advice, you should diversify your investments. Entrusting 50+% of your net worth thru one person (who you don't even know) is just bad money management.
