Worked 9 in between the 2 inches of rain that fell in the last 24 hours.

37 - 8 pars, 1 bogey - 6/7 fairways, 7/9 greens, 17 putts

The lone bogey was a 3-putt. I played the tips which is only 3,300 yards which played more like 3,500 or so. I normally hit wedge and gap wedge into most greens and today it turned into 7,8 and 9 irons.

Probably my best iron game I have had since I started playing again. Hit so many fairways because it stopped where it landed. Putting was meh.

nice redemption round on Pacific. the weather's been pretty darn good in Portland, how's the wind & rain been down there?

i don't care what other folks might say, Pacific is my favorite course at Bandon and in many ways it's not even close. i could type a word bomb trying to describe why, but i won't.

i'll mention three things:
right in the middle of the round the par 4 9th (with a blind shot from the tee over a hill) rotates between two very different greens, one elevated and to the right and one way downhill to the left. a sign at the tee tells you which green is in play.

the next hole, par 3 10th, rotates between two different tees, one very elevated and one not so, and varies between 200 and 150 to a rather large green with distinct tiers..you want to be on the right one or you may roll your putt off the front of the green.

completing the trifecta is the par 3 11th (yes, back to back 3 pars) that plays <150 from the tips but has an elevated green, the smallest one on the course, and death on almost every side. and the two 3 pars are routed along some of the most stunning coastline Oregon has to offer.

Boulder Creek said they are open on Saturday, a group of us got 3 tee times. One of the more fun and nice public courses in Ohio. Only $32 since it is winter.

Light rain Monday afternoon. Completely dry Tuesday and Today. Nice soliloquy toward Pacific. It's really special.

We played Bandon crossings today. Fun public course about 10 miles south of the resort. Good routing - great condition and the greens fee was $50 with a cart. Which was nice after walking 36 back to back. Gonna play either trails or Pac tomorrow and the preserve tomorrow afternoon before heading back toward Portland.

39-41 80 at crossings. 1 birdie, 7 bogies, 1 double. 33 putts. 7 fairways 7 greens.

If you need a break from the resort and or want to play something fun and less challenging I think crossings is a great call. If you're going to bandon for the first time I wouldn't substitute it for another round at the resort but it's pretty good for what it is.

43-43--86 - Back to sucking.

Another 2 inches of rain since I played 2 days ago. Did manage to hit one 298 with no roll today though, my only highlight.

1 triple, 3 doubles, 5 bogeys, 9 pars

Played a little fun 18 hole scramble on the sim, then played 9 stroke play on the sim and then played 9 holes of skins one the ice melted off the greens. Not sure what I actually shot, think our 3 man team shot 65 or 66 at Torrey Pins South but there is no rough in simulators so doesn't matter. Won money on skins but no clue what I shot.

Did set a new best on balls speed at 171 and the majority of them were in the 163-168 range.
It was a really nice day here in here in Ohio though

45-43--88 - Don't know the details as I didn't keep the card and we were playing Wolf. It's amazing that the lowest handicap always get's screwed in that game.

Driver was really good today, no lateral hazards or OB off the tee all day. Chips and pitches were horrible. Did almost reach 18 in 2 today which is a 520y par 5. Add in no roll because of the recent rain and I was happy.

As for the round today I did have one drive over 300 on a very soft course, wind aided though.
43 - 37 = 80
33 putts
4/14 FIR
10/18 GIR
1 birdie and 2 doubles.

My bad shots were really bad today, hit way too many chunky shots.
Didn't really have many legit birdie chances, almost every green I hit was a 25 foot putt or farther.
Was nice to get out though

do you think the lowest HC getting screwed observation is a function of the net scoring system, especially when hubris takes over and the low HC decides to go lone wolf?

just wondering...i've never played wolf but understand how the game can be played.

I'm the second lowest cap in the game and I went wolf 2x. I halved one of them and won the other. I think I was the only one to go solo on the day. You def have to know when to do it and who is getting how many strokes on that hole.

The real winner in that game is when you have a 20+ cap player and their 1 or 2 shots fall on a par 3. Almost a guaranteed win. I almost think that the par 3 needs to be a max of .5 strokes or something like that. They also played closest to the pin on the par 3 for 3 points so that helped out as well. You had to be on the green and had to make par or better.

Not really sure why the lowest always loses. In my sample of about 5 games it has happened every time though.

One odd variant I played the last time is if there was a tie you went to the other player' scores to try and break it.

way easier if you have a group with handicaps within 1 or 2 of each other but that is usually hard to do.

Played pretty good today all things considered. Hit a bunch of really good shots and a few brain farts. Wind was weird and gusty. Took on extra club and tried to keep the ball below the tree line other wise it would get blown 20 yards off target. The course was really wet and unplayable without lift clean cheat. There was zero roll out, spun a few drivers back a yard and took like 12 casual water drops. Driver was a little better but still had to dial it way back.

41 - 35 = 76
28 putts with two 3 putts
6/14 FIR
9/18 GIR
5 birdies, 3 bogeys, 3 doubles.

When I hit greens they were close. Birdies came from 79 yard wedge to 4 feet, 157 yard par 3 to 8 feet, 114 yard wedge to 5 feet, chip shot from pin high to 1 foot on a par 5, and 45 yard wedge to 5 feet.

Walked 18 today and was really focused, took the time to pace off yardages when I was inside 50 yards and took the time to read the putts and mostly mentally dialed in.

Back to winter now and no golf till it gets warm again.

Back to a very high score (92) ... Very wet but also think I played badly

Something I did was went with quite stiff 3w (a couple of good shots... Mostly bad though).. But I think it screws up my general swing

Played a new format Bogey Matchplay you get 1 point for every hole you score a net birdie or better, Pars are nothing and anything worse is -1 full handicaps.

I played very badly -4. The only interesting thing was on the 11th there's a pond in front of the green I topped my ball into it but it skimmed off the surface and rolled up the green to six feet from the hole.

I think every weekend game should be played like that. It keeps the game moving good.

I shot 46-47--93 today. Started out 48* with 20-30 mph winds. I went to mark my ball on the 3rd and a gust of wind picks up and moves it 2 feet. Had to play the wind on putts. I 3-putted 4 of the first 5 greens.

Highlight of the day was the 118y 14th when I hit 8-iron, yes 8-iron to 6 feet and made the birdie. Was a 3 club wind.

You'd think that but we were out there for hours It didn't help that the twelve handicapper we were playing with had a meltdown and shot a worse score the highest score of a four-ball that included two twenty handicappers.

Luckily we don't have anyone in our group that has melted down. Did he insist on finishing even if he was putting for triple?

We play a high low net game with two partners per team. The best net low from each team gets a point, as does the best bet high. birdies are an extra point, as are KPs on par 3s but only if you make a par. Sometimes other junk like sandy pars (par from a green side trap), sandzie pars (par from a fairway bunker), and barkies (par after hitting a tree on any shot) are in play. Coughing is always an option if you want to double the bet for the remaining holes.
Each point worth a buck, and the winning team buys the first round.

37-33-76. 3 birds, 2 doubles, and three bogeys. both doubles were 3 putts one from 4 1/2 feet and a tap in that liped out lol. course was wet not much roll in the fairways. could not drive to save my life. Got up and down quite a bit.

birdie putts were like 2 feet 4 feet and 9 feet.

Tournament today with a bunch of older people. I was probably the second best player out of 36. Started out great with pars on 1-3, bogeyed the next 5, pars on the next 2 and then I blew up. Holes 11-14 went +4, +1, +5 (took a 10), +2. Ended up going 41-52--93.

Couple of fun holes:

#9 486y par 5. Was downwind and I had 190 to the pin and hit 6 iron to 25 feet...and 3-putted for par.

#13 510y par 5. Had 177y to the pin after my drive, crushed it, plus can take on the dogleg, then...

#2 - chunk it in the water
#3 - drop
#4 - try to pitch and run, right into the water
#5 - drop
#6 - do the smart thing and go out towards fairway, hit a tree
#7 - leave it short in the greenside bunker
#8 - skull it into the lip and pops up and on the green
#9 - leave it a foot away
#10 - hole out

Holes like this is why I love tournaments that have stableford. This hole and my disaster quad did me in, +9 on those two holes alone.

Shot 81 in my first round of the year. This was missing three putts inside 12 feet. I'm not going to complain with that outing and the weather was nice.

Amazing course, even more amazing houses around it (but well off of the course). Really want to come back and play it when it gets green.

17th, 208y par 3
