I didn't want to copy in the whole email, but the specials are through the entire month of March, and they're not aerating until the last 10 days or so. Also, they're dropping the rates more after the aeration.

Shot a 49-45: 94 on a 6100 yard par 70 course in Pasadena today. Unfortunately that's a decent round for me.

52-50 today on my first round of the year, a 70 degree sunny day in Denver. Gorgeous.

Hit 'em straight all day off the tee and with irons, but my short game failed me majorly.

had to back off a putt today because someone yelled from their car "you suck ***" and then i looked at them and they yelled "eat a wiener" and i looked at them some more and they yelled "golf is for ****" and then i drained my 15 footer.

Reminds me of a funny story of something similar happening (this course has streets lining most of the holes) where a car stopped and someone yelled "you suck ***" and I wasn't as mature as I am now so i took my driver out of my bag and started running at them yelling "what did you say?" over and over again and then they drove off.

oh yeah was +7 thru 6, skipped to the back 9 and shot a 39. Which is amazing for me right now. I have developed a preawesome Ben Hogan hook and it is 50 mph wind every day here.

-1 through 6, +2 through 9, +3 through 14, +11 through 18 someone ****ing shoot me in the head please

taking 25 putts was pretty awesome though, as was winning our (team) match 6 and 5 (well, we were six up through seven, so ...)

apparently 2008 me is the polar opposite of 2007 me; grinds like crazy, holes every putt, and can't get off the tee if my life depended on it.

e: also i hit three greens in regulation which i think is pretty hilarious

Has anyone here played those courses adjacent to the Rose Bowl? When I was over there a few months ago we did a lap around them and while they look very muni-ish, they also look pretty decent. Not sure how good a challenge they are though.

Played Bitcho's former home course today, Coldwater Springs, for the first time. We got a $42 rate via golfnow.com, and it turned out to be a great value in high season. I will try not to go into too great of detail, but I chipped in for an eagle on the second hole, managed to chili-dip an L-Wedge into the pond on the 90 yard 8th hole, which is just embarrassing, and ultimately shot a +1 73 while missing about every putt in sight.

You people in California may have experienced this yesterday, and the Vegas people today: WIND. Capital letters, WIND. It was light at tee time, noticeable on the front nine, and then really became a menace around the turn. I'd be taking two extra clubs and it would still get batted down by the wind. One hole I hit a 3-iron around 280, and two holes later absolutely destroyed a driver, easily the best contact of the day, and it only went 260.

All other courses are about 6,500-6,600

50-63-113 Primm Valley Resort
53-46-99 Bear's Best
48-56-104 Revere at Anthem Lexington
50-53-103 Wolf Paiute
45-59-104 Lost Canyons Sky
55-62-117 Lost Canyon Shadow

(Simi Valley, north of LA) Friday played the Sky course. Started off pretty well. Played better than the 45. Then just blew some easy scoring opportunities on the back and totally derailed.

Sunday was brutal. Wind guest of up to (our estimate) 60mph. DFM 9 putted one green. You could literally have balls sit still for a few seconds then end up rolling 50 feet. I lag putted one 5 feet upwind in the hopes that the wind would push it into the hole after it stopped and almost succeeded. Played great on the front. 11 penalty strokes and still shot 55. Back was just tough into the wind that was a 4-club wind and made several forced carries from the tee virtually impossible for me.

53-44=97 at the par 70 (36-34) ~6,000 yard Needwood (hehe) Golf Course in Maryland yesterday. My father and I were part of the first group out, around 9:15, after about an hour-long frost delay.

Not sure how many of you have ever played after a frost delay, but it pretty much makes putting impossible. The greens thaw at different rates, so the speed is wildly inconsistent from hole to hole. It's very difficult to stop the ball on the green, so any chip where you have little green to work with ends up in like a 20-footer to get up and down. This is particularly bad for me, because I don't hit many greens in regulation (my iron play is the weakest part of my game).

All in all, I figure this round could have been near 90 in "normal" conditions, so I'm happy. Especially since the two guys we were paired with played fast and we got around in three and a half hours, fully two holes ahead of the group behind us. That was a major concern, because the courses get ridiculously crowded on nice days during the offseason.

Just saw confirmed winds of 68mph in a nearby area, so our guess was likely pretty close.

For reference, one of our group regularly shoots between 74-76, and shot a 96. In fact, we all basically shot 18-20 strokes worse than normally expected on a course like this.

I assume you're referring to yesterday? I mentioned that upthread - just incredibly windy, for us it got worse and worse and we were happy to get off the course right as it really started gusting. I figure in Vegas it probably hit a few hours ahead of us. It was also coming from the north, instead of from the west as usual. Luckily it was warm enough that it wasn't too uncomfortable. I tend to play worse the more layers I add.

I have to say I thought it was kinda fun playing in the wind but am glad it isn't a normal thing. Bummer though in that the last hole was a ~500 yard par 5 with a carry over water, but it was playing dead into the wind so there was no way I could chance getting home.

We were just north of LA in Simi Valley.

We're used to 15-20mph winds from Vegas, but this was a whole 'nother animal. I don't know that anyone had fewer than 50 putts.

played Dos Lagos in Corona for first time this weekend, shot a miserable 89 (normally a 10 handicap) Definitely a course you need to play a few times to get the layout down.

tuq, the rose bowl courses are ok (granted I'm some what bad and often prefer easier muni type courses), but course 1 might actually be a challenge while course 2 is fairly easy. Course one is 7000+ from the blues I believe and have black tees even further, while course 2 is 6100 from the blue. You'll find much nicer, less crowded, courses not too far away so I'd say there isn't too much of a reason to play there. If you do go definately don't play either course within a couple of weeks after an event at the rose bowl as the they use the fairways for extra parking.

This is from Saturday the 23rd, #7 at Pebble. Wind blowing all day 35+ with gusts confirmed in the mid 60's. Rained for about 12 holes. Miserable day for the golf course, but it was a freebie round at Pebble so we stuck it out. I have a ton more pictures if there is interest.

105 yards. 6 iron. Short. One guy in our group hit the green..with 5 iron. All current or ex club pros.

Shot a 76 last Saturday from the back tees at Raven South Mountain. Weird in that I have no confidence in my swing these days but I couldn't make a putt yet still shot a round that will count against my handicap. So I guess things aren't as bad as I thought.

But anyway, as is usual with my posts in this thread, this isn't about my game but rather something that happened. We paid $90 + tax for the golf, not a great hookup by our standards but we played 27 holes (alternate shot final nine) and that is still probably less than half their rack rate. Plus the course was in great shape and the greens were absolutely perfect.

We threw $40 more each into a prize pool and there were separate games within our four groups. Well one of the newcomers was an ex-mini tour player who for whatever reason he doesn't carry a handicap but said he was a six. Nice guy that we know and don't think he was blatantly sandbagging, but he goes on to shoot a 71 (I had the second best score, five strokes worse, despite nearly all of us being single-digit handicappers). Easy win for he and his teammate, and then they won the alternate shot round.

So this netted them each $125. Well after the round after having a beer and divvying everything up the other new guy gets up to leave and throws $10 down. I politely asked him WTF he was doing only throwing $10 in when he won $125 and most of us won nothing. He countered that since he paid $140 that day that he was still out $15. This made no sense to me so we went back and forth for a bit and finally he asked what I thought he should pay. I said $30 sounds about right, that way you're still up nearly $100 and everyone's happy. So he kicked that in, so did his mortified teammate, and after people chipped in their part we ended up with like $155 on a $100 bar tab, because we aren't stiffs like this guy. Nice tip.

When the guy left I received fist bumps from several people at the table but felt a little bad. Then on Monday he e-mailed the guy who coordinated the golf and said he doesn't want to play with us anymore. Some people suck.

Major beat: it's finally warm enough to play a round in West Lafayette, so I drive out to my favorite course this afternoon...only to find that it has been closed for good. I guess I should have expected it, as the place was this deserted little course that no one knew about, and you could play 18 holes for $10. Still, I feel like someone kicked me in the balls.

Shot 82 on the north course at Torrey Pines Sunday after not touching a club in 6 months.

Ok, in fairness, I went to the range on Thursday.

I think I've played less than 10 times in the 4 years since I graduated college.
