85 today, 132 slope.

Played pretty well, but had a few mental lapses. It was me and a friend and we got paired up with these two 60 year old dinkleberrys. These two guys did everything they could to put me on tilt; whispering/talking/jiggling pocket change during my shots, walking around the green while I was in the golden 5 seconds of my putting routine, etc. I wish I could not let this stuff get to me, but I can't.

88 at Lionhead this morning. My driver was a little off, but my irons (finally) were on point. Why can't everything come together for once?

Spotts : greens were in pretty good conditions. Enjoy your round on Monday.

Only got to play 9 holes before some storms rolled through. Hadn't played in a while. Maybe a month (took some time off from full shots to do a lot of drill work, so it's not like I was totally lost out there). Putter felt pretty good in my hands though- I rolled the rock without reservation. Made from 12', a couple from 8-10', and 5'. Struggled to strike the ball in warmups, but managed to hit 5/9 greens.

2 Birdies
5 Pars
2 Bogeys

Best hole was probably the 9th. 520 par 5. Storm was obviously coming in, was hearing some rolling thunder, and all of a sudden had a strong helping wind. Piped a drive to 198 and had to wait for the group in front of me. I was getting nervous as the skies were changing to a scary gray/teal color behind me. Finally the group in front finishes, I kind of skip up to the ball without a backswing and hit a high cut 5 iron over water to 13 feet. Rushed the putt and left it an inch or two short, dead in the heart. Nice to end with a birdie.

32 Stablford points
I lost by one point. It was all neck and neck until the seventeenths where scared of hooking the ball I aimed well down the right side of the fairway and proceeded to start it on line, only to watch in horror as it started to draw left and just kept going until it was out of bounds.

45-40 for an 85 at my new home course. 45 had a double, and only one par. Really frustrating because I was hitting the ball really well off the tee, but couldn't approach worth a damn. Backside was just consistent golf, one double, one bogey, and a bunch of pars.

Shot 88 89 this weekend as a guest in a member/guest. I played badly but the highlight was an eagle today. Drive down the middle and a 255 yard 3W to 3' and an easy 3 on the card.

putting this in here for anyone's interest...

played at tobiano course at kamloops, bc. (3 hours east of vancouver, bc, which is 2 hours north of seattle).... maybe the best public course in canada. if not, very close to it, and not too expensive.

didn't keep score as never played the course before and sometimes didn't exactly know where fairway was.

but unofficial scoring... did mediocre on front nine. not exactly sure why as my driving since i've switched to R flex has perfect.

back 9 i did much better. could have had 7-8 pars but ended up with 6. one disastrous hole where i lost 2 balls (didn't know where fairway was on drive). and another where i hacked it around terribly.

shots to work on: not sure what's happened to my wedge game inside 100 but not near the green. just a disaster. and add more distance for uphill shots. left wedges woefully short over and over again... somehow i've confused punch shot with 8-9 irons with full shot with 52/SW. have to get this back on track. unfortunately nowhere good to practice and not playing that much recently.

37-40-77. 2 birdies, no double bogeys.

Hard to complain too much about a solid round but my putting really sucked today. At least 4 three putts and a number of missed shorties. Bad speed, worse direction.
On the plus side I nearly made an eagle on the hole I made a quad on yesterday.

Another 86, another meltdown. I was playing pretty well when I chunked one 70 yards to a 130 par 3 into a wastebunker. I don't know how to play a 60 yard bunker shot, so I pure a sand wedge 100 yards and cozy it up against a tree and make triple ungh. Went triple, bogey, bogey double to shoot 86. gg

Thanks!!!!!!^^^^

Do you make it up into the mountains much for golf? I live in Glenwood Springs and while the golf season is shorter than Denver (late March until early Nov.) it's some of the best golf I've ever played. Been here two years and hoping never to leave.

LOL sample size but I had a bit of an epiphany on the greens today. It was the first time I've played in two weeks after having some issues with my putting (hit 38/45 greens and only managed 71-72-36).

My former approach was to treat putting a lot like a video game. I envisioned an indicator pointing at a specific spot on the green. That spot, in my mind, was the "new hole" and if I played to that new hole, the ball would end up at the actual hole.

The new approach is to just look at the hole, allow my own hand-eye coordination to just trust the distance control, and line-up my ball like usual. Then I pick a spot only about 3-6" ahead of my line and only focus on rolling over it.

I find the stroke and my mind to be far less mechanical and the results were pretty fantastic in my first round with that approach.

75 (+4) at my home course yesterday 73.3 rating

Continued my recent theme of shooting the highest score possible relative to the way I played...putting like a monkey

I did however make one of the more ridiculous birdies of my life. One of the easier par 4s, there is a tree to the left of the tee box about 50 or 60 yards up that can somewhat inhibit my ability to hit a draw (I'm lefty) depending on where the tee markers are placed. Yesterday they were in a good spot for me, but I managed to lose one bad left and hit the tree pretty square, ball came out right and forward a little, but left me about 250 in from the rough short of the fairway (hole is a short par 4, about 395). Put it to about 6 feet with hybrid and made birdie lol.

And now for a brag: As of the 8/1 GHIN update, I am a + handicap for the first time in my life (+0.2) woot

85 today on a 139 slope rating. I played pretty well aside from a few shots that I totally quit on and hit REALLY fat. I also misplayed a shot or two that cost me penalty strokes.

35-39 mid am qualifying. First tournament round in something like 7 years. 19 putts on back nine but what really did me in were 3 massive pulls off the tee. Not only did those lead to 3 over play but made me hesitant off the tee all day which is typically my strong suit.

How'd you find the conditions of the course? (it was Masters, right)

Also, how did you do on the 16th hole (Island green)

Yeah, we played Masters. I liked the conditions. I found the chipping green was way faster than the actual greens and they were also a tad inconsistent speed wise, but they rolled very nicely.

#16 I bogeyed. I hit a drive right of the bunker and my line was blocked so i tried to chip a low 6 iron like 100 yards under some trees but I hit it about 150 into the fescue down the left. Hit it back into play, hit the green but missed the putt. The guy we played with had never been there and he hit a slight push that was in the fairway just left of the bunker. He had a perfect window and hit the green and made eagle.

I had a bunch of really good up and downs too; I parred 5 after two awful shots. On 18, I blocked one way right into the rough and had a tiny little window between two trees and could only see the front left edge of the green with the pin way in the back. I hit a beautiful high fading 8 iron to the right-middle fringe and chipped it to 2 inches.

Hole #5 is awesome. I stopped hitting my driver on that hole which resulted in more consistent results this year.

We should hit up Lionhead sometime - carts are mandatory!

39 (par 35). Putter was straight AIDS. 3 three putts and nothing was easy.

Regressed some today, 53-47-100. I've been in the low 90's pretty consistently of late with some forays into the upper 80's.

Good news: I talked with a friend of mine - a good player - about putting, and he told me that his biggest two keys are to hold the putter very loosely and to just use the shoulders. I knew the shoulder thing and have been working on it, but never paid attention to how tightly I held the putter (pretty tightly!). I held it with a much looser grip today and putted just about as well as I ever have. Made a couple of 12 footers and just about every putt - with the exception of one downhill putt - were the right pace, which I have had a lot of trouble with in the past.

Bad news: Made an 11 on a Par 4, which I haven't done in a long time. Also was much less consistent off the tee with my 3 hybrid than last time, and not great with irons.

1. Bad tee shot through treeline right of fairway, playable lie.
2. Decide to try to Go For It instead of laying up back into the fairway, hit tree trunk square and leave myself in a spot where I can't even lay up safely
3. Hit some branches but get a bounce to a spot where I can finally lay up.
4. Lay up into near side of fairway
5. Play hybrid straight into the effing trees on the left side
6. Penalty stroke
7. Pitch into rough on left side of green
8. Chip poorly onto green
9. 15 foot downhill putt runs 10 feet past (lol)
10. Miss 10 footer
11. Tap in!

All in all, a really weird round. Should be getting back out there later this week, pretty intrigued to see what happens. I have a lesson on Thursday morning as well.

36 (+1) in league. Doubled 1 by trying to drive a gorge that's 240 carry to clear. Had the distance but pulled it left into the hazard. Two birdies and one three-putt bogey afterwards. Best fairways and greens round I've played in a long time.

I'm really good at this as well. The other night I was striking the ball better than I have in years and shot an 85, which is the same score I posted this past weekend when I was blocking every drive right and thinning irons. Multiple three putts and stupid chips did me in.

Seems I need to play back to front on courses more often as I hung another 72 (+1) today, this time at Sky View Golf Course in Summit, NJ. It's a mountain style course, with lots of straight up/down holes. Par 71, 71.8/131 and 6002 yards from the tips. Shot 34-38 and chipped in on the last for par.

Same theme as last time at Neschanic, as I kept it in play off the tee, and when I didn't I got away with it. Only hit 8 greens, but was on another 5 fringes or just in the rough in regulation. Only 25 putts.

Played a nice 2:30 round yesterday AM at George Dunne GC just outside the city. Pretty awesome to get around that quickly and our 6:30a tee time included a discounted rate because of how early it was. $24.99 for 18 holes in < 3 hours in Chicago -- doesn't get better than that.

Four 3 putt greens including 14, 16 and 18. Ball striking very solid.
