Things usually don't go well for me when I talk about how high my expectations are before a round.

legitimately broke 80 for the first time.... 3 birdies, 7 pars, 5 bogeys, 3 doubles. par 71

GOOD:

went back to r-flex driver. hit my drives really straight. this is HUGE as i had a slice i couldn't shake no matter what it seemed . generally 3w and 5w were good too.

excellent course management (hit 3 iron straight off some par 4 and 5 tees) and mental makeup (bogeyed first 2 holes and then recovered)

lights out putting for awhile.... some nice chips/pitches too

minus 3 on the par 5's.... tamed an incredibly hard hole. maybe the hardest i know anywhere.

BAD:

irons weren't overly straight. work a hybrid or two back into my game (they are within 14 club limit, just don't use them much)..... didn't do well on easy-ish par 3's due to offline iron shots.

need to figure out exactly what short games shots to hit around green.

golf cart, which i barely ever use, in wet conditions so can't drive on fairways. often didn't have the right club at the ball but hit anyway. cost me two of my 3 double bogeys although tough holes.

UGLY: a couple of chunks..

ALL-IN-ALL, fabulous day.... was able to bogey 18 and still shoot the 79....

consolidate this result for awhile... then next stop 75

Went out and played yesterday for the first time in (I **** you not) 1.8 years! (Moved to Seattle from Phoenix and just haven't had much motivation to play)

Surprisingly I shot 39 (+3) on the front but fell apart on the back with a 46 lulz. Multiple OB's and terrible, terrible chips.

Eh not a great day today.

48-45 93

2 birdies
2 pars

I hit 4 putts over 30 feet. Chipped in from the fairway for par on another hole. Couldn't hit any tee shots today, was OB twice off the tee, hit maybe 2 fairways all day. Scrambled around for a 93. Feel like I wasted what was a great putting day. If I hit 7 fairways I shoot low 80's. Frustrating. Really was hoping to go low today. New course though so I guess that's my excuse.

played 50 holes or so yesterday.

72-75 first two rounds, then thru 7 holes on the back it got too dark to see the ball. I figured we'd call in quits for the day but crazy ****er i'm playing with pulls out a few sleeves of glow in the dark balls.

These things are insane, if you hit them in the center of the club face you get about 95% of normal yardage out of them. We played 4-5 holes in complete darkness and all you could see were 3 glowing balls in the distance.

Only problem was they go out after about 15 minutes and you gotta reload. Buddy hit one in a small lake and the entire thing glowed red.

broke 80 for the first time ever three weeks ago, won a tournament with a 76 for a net 60. my hdcp dropped two strokes on the next revision from that score alone really good solid play, even took a triple on the 18th hole.

shot 85 today for a net 71 in a two day flighted tournament all net prizes. was good for T8 out of 36, so i'm in the 3rd to last threesome tomorrow to conclude. leaders shot net 63 (one dude shot a 68, absolutely sick round) but we are playing from the white tees at our club which only run about 5,950, so i'm hitting a lot of 5 iron A wedge into these 350ish yard par 4s. makes for some awkward golf i guess, but i really hate sub 100 yard shots, so driver stays in the bag except on par 5s and drivable par 4s.

68 on an easy par 71/6200 yard track with a double on 17 where it took me four to get down from about 30 feet.

Annoying but made a lot of birdies (6) which was my goal and reason for playing that course.

34-42-76. 2 birdies, 1 double bogey.

Double was a lost ball off the tee on 18, surprised not to find it.

Hit it pretty solid, never in major trouble. Kinda irked by one dropped shot - had a hard breaking uphill 3 footer. Hit it perfect, firm into the center of back of the cup. Ball somehow spins out.

Followed my net 58 with a net 65 today, shooting 91 on a course handi of 26. Started double-triple-double, then 13 of last 15 holes were bogey or par. Hit 9 of the last 11 fairways, and both of the misses were just in the first cut right of the fairway. Fun to play well (comparatively)!

I don't like to post these things when I play crappy, unfocused golf that is relatively uneventful. So this is the first time in a while I've had a noteworthy round:

Course: Par 71, 74.7/143, 7,000 yds
1: 440 yard par 4.
Perfect drive right down the middle. Perfect 8 iron eaten up by the wind, 20 feet short of green. Pin on front, terrible lag hit way too hard, missed 15 footer for par. Bogey.

2: 460 yard par 4.
Slipped on drive hit so far behind it I almost whiffed it. Went probably 180 yards in left rough. 5 wood layup pushed WAY right, 75 yards short of green but in the trees. Had no shot to pin. Maybe an under/over situation that might've worked but too risky. Hit perfect 5 iron punch shot to fringe, 70 feet left of pin. Putt up to 10 feet. Blew that one by 3 feet. Missed the comebacker. Nice 3 putt *******. Triple bogey! Good start!

3: 215 yard par 3.
Very crappy 3 iron hit tree right and well short. Pitch from 30ish yards through the green. Almost drained 18 footer from fringe. Tap in bogey. +5 thru 3. Well done...

4: 420 yard par 4.
Clunky "push hook" crap drive that went very short but straight (and not in the water on the left). Crappy 3 iron was destined to be well short and right and took a huge (awesome) bounce to the left and forward and ended up 20 feet away. Couldn't read the putt but had it right on line and a foot short. Lucky par.

5: 440 yard par 4.
Bad timing on my drive this time, but at least hit solid but in the trees to the right. Hit an insane slicing 5 wood from 210 to front of green 45 feet away. Decent lag on a tough, quick putt and drained a 4 foot slider for par.

6: 672 yard par 5.
Killed my drive, must've gone 310. Killed a 5 wood layup. 9 iron almost went in the hole but ended up about 10 feet past. Drained it for a nice birdie.

7: 155 yard par 3.
Playing about 162, hit a 6 iron very solid but started hooking too much, but got on the ground quick enough to stop hooking. 20 feet left of pin. Felt weird that it stayed on the green. Putt dead on but short. Tap in par.

7: 370 yard par 4.
Decent drive away from the water to 125, into the wind. Pitching wedge hit perfect, but ended up about 20 feet short. Routine 2 putt par.

9: 390 yard par 4.
Good drive down the middle but into the wind a bit. Hit a 6 iron up the hill from about 150 and pulled it what I thought was in the bunker, but it was on the wrong tier about 40 feet away. Decent lag to about 5 feet. Drained the slider for a par.

+4, 39. 4/7 fairways. 4/9 greens. 17 putts.

10:450 yard par 4.
Killed my driver into the wind a bit. 3 iron hit well from 200, but went a bit long into the Roughringe. Putted it of course from 45 feet about 7 feet past. Drained it for par.

11: 560 yard par 5.
Crushed my drive down the right side. Pulled the balls out of my layup 4 iron directly into a tree and right back into the fairway, about 135 out. 8 iron felt really good, but somehow ended up in the left bunker. Bunker shot was pretty terrible as usual for me, but ended up on fringe about 15 feet away. Almost made it, tap in bogey.

12: 175 yard par 3.
Into the wind, pin near back, hit 5 wood to back of the green, about 35 feet. Putt very fast, but cozied it up there, tap in par.

13: 445 yard par 4.
90 degree dogleg left, one of the toughest holes on course. Drive pulled but thought it might get past the trees and perfect. Of course not, no shot. Had to layup with a gap wedge, and almost hit it too far to have a shot, but I was okay. Decent pwedge to 20 feet, straight downhill putt stayed short somehow, and made a touchy 4 footer for bogey.

14: 400 yard par 4.
Killed my drive to 70 yars. Pin was on back and I bladed a lob wedge just enough for it to go in the bunker, completely short sided. Hit an amazing (but stupid) bunker shot that hit 1 inch short of perfect and bounced right back to my feet. Gary Playered another one 12 feet past and didn't really scare the hole. Nice Double bogey, good luck breaking 80, *******.

15: 240 yard par 3.
Sensible 5 wood about 15 feet short of green, 45 feet from hole. Hit a bad layup putt to 10 feet and made the clutch putt for par.

Note: I hit 5 wood everytime on this hole regardless of wind, pin, etc. There is trouble right and left and the green and a nice landing area short. Sometimes I get the 5 wood onto the green and in good shape for some odd reason, but usually I'm short, it's definitely a semi layup.

16: 300 yard par 4.
Driver crushed about 15 yards short of green. Pin on front. Hate tight lies so I'm putting no matter what EVEN THOUGH THERE IS INEXPLICABLY A GIGANTIC DRAIN WITH RIVETS AND STUFF RIGHT THERE IN THE FAIRWAY INBETWEEN MY HOLE AND THE BALL. Literally putt it through the metal drain to about 7 feet. Drain it for birdie.

17: 550 yard par 5.
Drive sucked out the right into the bunker. I suck horribly out of fairway bunkers but crush a 5 iron to 95 yards. Perfect 52 degree 8 feet left of pin. Drain it, birdie.

18: 380 yard par 4.
Split fairway here, took the "more risky" side. Driver perfect to 85 yards. Plays significantly uphill (terrain and lie) and hit the exact same perfect 52 degree that I thought went in for a second. About 5 feet short. Made it. Birdie. Second ever turkey?

Back 9: 37. 5/7 fairways, 4/9 greens, 12 putts.

+5, 76. Love finishing with 3 straight birdies and playing my last 15 in even par. I don't feel like this was anything I can't do more consistently, but that being said, I DON'T do it consistently.

45-43-88 from the back tees at my "home" course. Played 3 hybrid off basically every par 4/5 since I feel really comfortable with it and I spray my driver everywhere. I think I missed one fairway. My short game wasn't particularly great, putting was okay.

Overall pretty excited to make 88 and not feel like I played incredibly good. Coming into this summer I had broken 100 twice.

Also of note, got stung by two hornets on #12 when my buddy's approach shot hit a tree and I guess shook them up a bit. Stung on the right hand and the right temple. So there's that.

Played 9 holes.

40

1 birdie
4 pars
3 bogeys
1 double bogey

Double bogey came on a hole that is par 5 dog leg right. Landing area about 220 out then it's 205 over water to the green. I striped my 3w landed a little behind the green. And my ****ing chip went over the green into the water. Took a 7 instead of a 5. Would have been my best 9 ever.

If you are someone that struggles breaking 100, I definitely suggest playing conservatively off the tee to score better. Keeping it in play should probably be the #1 priority for the higher handicapper.

Jesus with the hornets. We have a hornet problem a my club, they literally nest in probably half of the holes on any given day right now. The other day I made a putt, pulled my ball out of the hole and a 4 inch hornet comes tearing out of there after me doing Iceman maneuvers in my face, while I tried to comically run away. They live UNDER the hole, which is terrifying, and sometimes they just burrow into the lip right above the cup. They are like Hell birds.

They are probably going to revoke my membership soon.

Played a qualifier for the Colorado Stroke Play tournament today with mostly high school and college kids. 2 years ago I got into the tournament and last year I missed it by 1. Based on past years I figured 75 would likely qualify and 74 would get in for sure. I ended up shooting 76. Then it turned out I would have needed 72 to get in outright and 73 for a playoff. Wasn't like the course was a pushover either. Its weird how the number of golfers is in decline but competitive golf just keeps getting tougher and tougher. Kids these days piss me off.....
