Shot 51-49-100 today for my lowest round ever (by 7 strokes). It was at Timber Creek public course which is a really nice one in Houston. It's a bit out of my price range but I had a free round for my birthday by signing up for their e-mail list. It was my first time playing here.
Par 70.3 slope 125
39 total putts
0 birdies
2 pars
9 bogeys
Putted really ****ty. Had quite a few putts for bird/par that I had no chance on. I actually hit quite a few GIR which is a brand new feeling for me. Their greens were HUGE compared to the old muni course I play at. Was nice to be able to whack 5i and 6i from the fairway and plop it onto the green without worrying about rolling off.
I took 6 shots to get out of a total of 6 bunkers, though I did screw up a fairway bunker where I smacked it off the lip but it rolled out 30 yards or something. No biggy. I did hit one awesome greenside bunker shot that was far - maybe 40 yards from the pin so I really smacked it and the ball settled 8 inches from the hole.
I had two 8s, two 7s and the rest were lower.
My drives were good, only screwed up 2-3 of them. My iron tee shots were excellent (for a change). I think I plopped onto just about every par 3.
Chipping was good again. The big reason I shot seven (7!) strokes better than my previous low was my fairway irons were much, much better. Maybe only 1-2 skulls. Was able to carry all water hazards, and like I said, was landing on the green from 150+ yards out. That's not typically how I roll
I also did really well at club selection, which is good. All-in-all, this course was significantly easier than the cruddy $21 muni I normally play at. Greens were huge, and the course was in significantly better condition, as should be expected.
