Shot my all time best round today a -2 70. I was +3 after 6 and finished -5 over the last 12 holes including -4 on the last 6 holes. I had one bogey which was a bad 3 putt from 20 feet and a double bogey due to shanking an 8 iron OB from 6 inches off the fairway on a par 4 from a bad but not hideous lie.

Overall 1 bogey, 1 double bogey, 5 birdies, and 11 pars. I only had 11 GIR which makes the round kind of weird for me since generally if I have a low 70's round it's due to hitting 15-17 GIR.

Also it was a 3 man skins game and after 11 holes I'm +2 for the round and being shut out with each of my opponents having 3-4 skins. I finished with 7 skins on the last 7 holes (one came from a greenie on a par 3 which is worth one in our match).

Best shot of the day was being in the fairway on 18 at -1 on the day needing a par to match my best score ever facing 165 to the pin into a 2 club wind to a back pin guarded by sand left, and water right and behind the green. I punched a cut 6 iron to 5 feet and sank the putt to instead go -2 on the day.

If golf isn't the closest thing to crack I don't know what is. I got the chance to go out today for my second full round of the year and even though I scored horrendous I was absolutely smashing my driver on most holes and it felt great. I also was hitting a few really good iron shots which are generally the Achilles heel of my game which was really encouraging. My wedges were complete ass, but I'm not upset one bit at not having any feel on 60-100 yard shots this time of year. I can't wait until I'll have an opportunity to get some range time and can continue working on getting my swing on plane and rotating through the ball rather than using all arms, the difference that these swing changes have made in my ball-flight and confidence is truly amazing.

Good weather next weekend one (more) time!

Had probably my biggest WTF round ever. Front nine I hit into about every damn water hazard I could find. 6 shots in the water. Only highlight was sinking a 40-foot right-to-left downhill putt from the fringe on the hole where I hit it into the water 3 times.

Then I get to the back nine, where I end up having 4 pars (a par-3 and 3 short par-4s), 1 bogey (the other par-3), and...3 9s and a 10. How is that even possible? I'd never had more than 3 pars in a round, let alone on a single nine. And I've done a better job of getting rid of the huge numbers lately, aside from longish par-5s (which did account for a 9 and a 10). The par-4s I parred felt so good though. All three of them went drive down the middle, wedge just missing the green, two putt from the fringe.

So spill the beans - what'd you shoot?

I need to get out there again soon. Weather's been nice.

I did get to the range yesterday to work mainly on hitting DOWN on my irons. I had some decent results, but it seemed like I lost some distance from my old habit of scooping/skulling with the divot before the ball. Not sure if that is normal or not but I'm not too concerned about any distance loss. I'd much rather make consistent contact.

When playing on a course with water between you and the green, the threat of skulling simply isn't an option. Auto penalty and bad distance. Not to mention you are again having to hit an iron over water. I'm sick of that crap and I want to eliminate the skull shots from my game.

I will say I felt a difference in the ball upon pinching it. It felt weird but each time I noticed this I hit the ball correctly. It seemed to have a higher trajectory and more spin than it used to. So now I know what it FEELS like to hit the ball the right way. I putted well, and chipped well. I also hit maybe 20 drives and did well. I made 1 minor adjustment with my hands prior to takeoff and that seemed to do wonders.

I really need to start writing down all my thoughts for each club I use. Before I forget about things I've figured out.

Shot 56-57-113 today at a links course with a 3-club wind. This was the second time I played this course and shot 5-ish strokes better than last time.

Got my first BIRDIE ever today on 18, which is a 454 yard par 4. Right before teeing off on that hole I said "I think I'm retiring from golf. Gonna stick to baseball and hockey." Then, of course, first birdie ever.

I hit a great drive totally straight. No idea how far. I'm guessing somewhere between 255-280. Then a crappy iron shot that was a line-drive that bounced off a dune a couple times and slowed enough to roll onto the green and stop maybe 12 feet from the pin. Then I made the putt which was slightly downhill right-to-left (super fast greens). I barely hit it and if it didn't go in the hole it probably rolls 5 feet past. Anyway, it went in for my first ever (lucky) birdie.

Overall I drove better than I have in a long time. Only ****ed up like 2 drives. Chipped well. Putted well (really tough greens). Took 7 shots to get out of 5 deep sand bunkers. Slightly worse than normal for me. Lost like 5 balls in gorsh so had to take a bunch of penalty shots.

Where I really screwed up today was all of my irons (except lob wedge chips). All my iron shots were awful line drives. And when they weren't, they were high with a major slice that the wind carried. Even my irons off the tees were bad.

4 bogeys, 1 par, 1 birdie. My first 3 holes were bogey/double/bogey which was weird b/c usually my first 3 holes are awful. 16 strokes through 3 and usually I'm at 22 or so.

F-I-L who carries a 1.8 handicap shot an 80 today. Worst round I've seen him play.

Thanks! I got really lucky with my 2nd shot obv. But I've been unlucky before, too!

It was fun to jokingly yell "GET IN THE HOLE" as we watched the ball roll near (well, it turns out directly behind) the pin from really far away.

I actually had a chance for a birdie putt earlier in the round on like a 25 footer or so. It was also a downhill right to left and I had perfect speed but started the putt too far right and it didn't break enough. Ended up about 18" right of the hole for the par tap in.

Thanks Pelican. On my birthday, too! Pretty cool to close out hole 18 like that. I just checked Google Earth and used their yardage tool and it looks like my drive went around 275 as far as I can tell. That's definitely near the upper limit of my range.

Always fun to experience your first birdie, I can't seem to even remember when I got mine anymore. Do remember my first eagle, mainly because it's the only one I have still (not to mention I almost hit a group in front of me).

80 for my first full round in 3 years on my own ball on a soaking wet , tree lined 6700 yd course........
No birdies, no doubles, used the same ball all day. I think if I'd had a belly putter it would/could have been 74ish. 3 whipped it like 5 times and was near or on the green in two on every par five and played them 1 over. Might start playing seriously again!!! Was nice day in Bama, 63 sunny and light breeze.

Last time i posted in here i broke 100 for the first time, today i broke 90 for the first time. Shot 48-41 on my second round this year, really pleased because i havn't been playing that long. Played really well back 9 but def wasted alot of strokes on the front 9 and can see easily how to make up another 6-7 shots. Hopefully next time i post i will have broken 80 for the first time but i have a feeling 100-90 is alot easier than 90-80.

43/42-85 at Hudson Hills this morning...was +1 after 6 then double, tripled, the next two holes losing two balls...that sucked.

Ive now played twice and chipped in for birdie both times...this round was just off the green only about 15 feet...pulled the pin and played it just inside left and it went in.

All in all, very happy with the way I played. My short game is saving me, getting up and down from 50 yards to save par twice and a couple other tap ins from greenside.

Gotta get my irons more precise from 140-180 range...Im not hitting nearly enough greens.

Shot 51-49-100 today for my lowest round ever (by 7 strokes). It was at Timber Creek public course which is a really nice one in Houston. It's a bit out of my price range but I had a free round for my birthday by signing up for their e-mail list. It was my first time playing here.

Par 70.3 slope 125

39 total putts
0 birdies
2 pars
9 bogeys

Putted really ****ty. Had quite a few putts for bird/par that I had no chance on. I actually hit quite a few GIR which is a brand new feeling for me. Their greens were HUGE compared to the old muni course I play at. Was nice to be able to whack 5i and 6i from the fairway and plop it onto the green without worrying about rolling off.

I took 6 shots to get out of a total of 6 bunkers, though I did screw up a fairway bunker where I smacked it off the lip but it rolled out 30 yards or something. No biggy. I did hit one awesome greenside bunker shot that was far - maybe 40 yards from the pin so I really smacked it and the ball settled 8 inches from the hole.

I had two 8s, two 7s and the rest were lower.

My drives were good, only screwed up 2-3 of them. My iron tee shots were excellent (for a change). I think I plopped onto just about every par 3.

Chipping was good again. The big reason I shot seven (7!) strokes better than my previous low was my fairway irons were much, much better. Maybe only 1-2 skulls. Was able to carry all water hazards, and like I said, was landing on the green from 150+ yards out. That's not typically how I roll

I also did really well at club selection, which is good. All-in-all, this course was significantly easier than the cruddy $21 muni I normally play at. Greens were huge, and the course was in significantly better condition, as should be expected.

Meh, I don't care about that really. I don't add up anything until I finish 18 and I thought I was going to be around 104. As long as I get better that's what matters. Yeah it would have been nice to crack 100 but I'm super excited as it is. Hopefully I'll get some rounds in the double-digits soon enough.

In hindsight, had I known I would end with 100 I would have maybe taken a bit more time on a putt or two. Or maybe carried that water on 15.... not like I was trying to do that anyway....

First full round of the year shot a 42-42 84 on a par 72 so just above my handicap!
Not too bad for the first one of the year.

Played 14 holes terribly. Only bright spot was a short par-3 where I left a 26-footer for birdie two inches short. Then I bogeyed the last 4 holes to think, "Hey, maybe I can break 100 sooner or later."

Hit probably the shot of my career on 18 at Firewheell Lakes course today.

Tried to layup to the 150 marker with a 5iron off the tee(short downwind par 4). kinda chunked it and was on the 200 marker. 25mph left-to-right wind , flag back left, green angles to the left, uphill 40 feet. I didn't really think i could hardly hit the green and was just kinda playing for the right side of the green short. But I caught it perfectly, and drew it up into wind and landed about 25 feet short of the hole and rolled up to 8 feet.

Oh, used my 20* adams black hybrid.

Obviously missed the putt lol. Shot even on the back which is really good on that 9 in the wind. +4 on the front.
