Yeah, def not playing much tourney golf is going to have an effect on your mental sharpness. Do you ever link your mental scorecard (where you weren't committed) back to a particular shot/hole/score and find a weakness or is the shot you are lacking commitment just random shots here and there throughout the round?

small hijack here, but what did you think of DJ's length? He's by far the longest player I've ever been around! I've watched him blow it past Hank Kuehne's driver with a 3 wood, & DJ plays at our place a few times/year with Heath (which is kinda funny since DJ is so long & Heath is not). Unfortunately, inside 100 yards, he's a trainwreck. I don't know if anyone on here knows him - he played the mini-tours on the FL panhandle before he started working w/Heath, but he is a legend for those who have watched him hit it!

apologies for the hijack, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Yes I have hit balls a fair amount over the last few weeks but that doesn't really help you with scoring which is where a major leak was. Couple that with the fact I had 13 new clubs in the bag that I had only played 2 rounds with and I am not too concerned. I did make terrible swings at it day2 & 4 but considering all the outside influences - new clubs, tons of wind, sick kid, work, lack of sleep, etc - I am fine with it. I did not make adjustments on the fly which is something I should and can do. But the fatigue just didn't allow me to grind it out mentally on the days I didn't "have it". In hindsight I think I could have focused on maintaining my posture better throughout the swing. I was certainly getting stuck and just leaving the clubface wide open and blocking the sh*t out of it. The loss of posture is where I think a lot of trajectory control issue came from. I know the swing guys here will say no it's from XXXX but for me it all stems from posture. The club will hit better positions simply from being more solid over it.

It's funny because I didn't even realize that everything in the final round was pulled until reading this. This was the problem though for sure....all punches went way left.
ship, I agree that you should be pleased, and I think it's a great testament to your overall game to put you in contention through 3 days with as little as you've played and so few tournament rounds. I think the average player (one who hasn't played tournament golf) doesn't even realize how hard it is to remain focused for not just every shot in one round, but for 4 tournament rounds - it's possibly the most difficult part of tournament golf. You mentioned having a sick kid at home, and it always amazes me when someone on tour plays a great tournament when they've been out for 4-5 weeks, and have some personal stuff going on at home (divorce, sickness, missing kids activities, etc), being in it mentally 100% is such a hard thing to do, but such a huge part of the equation.

FWIW, I 100% agree w/you on the posture/spine angle comment. I'd mentioned in your other thread about rotating (moving the handle left), and that was specifically to stay in that spine angle - I think one plays off the other regardless of the cause (stand up through impact - rotation stops, stop rotating - stand up to create space). This would certainly explain the pulls you hit on the punch shots as well, since that would be the clubface closing slightly with spine angle coming up (no need to go into tech details - you understand that).

Anyway, I agree you had a positive start to your journey, and I think if you can find a simple way to maintain the spine angle, you'd eliminate a few of the misses, then work hard on the mental game/log a few more tournament rounds, and see what you can do! Good luck in the coming weeks - hopefully, our paths will cross somewhere in the future!

This is from my swing thread but I thought it was important enough to post twice in case some are just reading this thread....the camera angle part is what I think is important for others to note and learn FWIW.

I didn’t have my camera yesterday when I got a lesson, but I took a few iPhone pics of the monitor to post. First link is impact….working hard on rotation and posture here and pretty pleased. No clue if it would have been a good shot or not, but I like the position.

http://yfrog.com/h7jvj1j

The next two are just to show the guys that are trying to use cameras how important camera set up is. The swings are same spot but I moved a little for the second one to show how much distortion comes from how the camera is set up. When I was a Haney disciple we spent hours on the range working only on the position shown in pictures 2 and 3. The camera would be in a static position on the range and I would be moving all over a divot pattern and we never once discussed camera angle or distortion. Just why can’t I get the club to not suck inside. I know my club is a touch inside at this point in the swing, but I firmly believe it doesn’t really matter. We spent HOURS and YEARS trying to move the clubhead about 2 inches….WTF? If you open two windows and compare these swings side by side you can see how much consistent and accurate camera set up matters. And how distorted my original swings on page one are....I told you guys I am not that tall and skinny.

Went to Santa Fe yesterday for a wedding through Sunday....came home today. Let's just say we learned the daughter doesn't like hotel rooms. My brother in law is getting married tomorrow out there. But when Emma got up at 1 a.m. today and didn't go back to sleep I made the exective decision that her and I were coming home and letting everyone else have a good weekend. I will be able to put her at the Kids Cabana at the club and practice a little tomorrow though so that is nice.

Just checking Adams event this week....the two kids I played with in the 3rd and 4th rounds 2 weeks ago are leading and 3rd this week through 54 holes. See, I told you (somebody) they were pretty impressive. Maybe it was Spenda I told. Seriously though, they had all the tools. Just need to have the right week.

Ya, Pat showed flashes, he absolutely beats on the golf ball too, dude (no ****) had tree trunk legs, so you short knockers, go squat if you want to hit it farther.

Ty has plenty of talent but he seemed like a mental midget out there, also couldn't hit a cut to save his life which got him into trouble numerous times that day. I think he top-10'd it last week so he's been playing well lately.

Awesome spenda....we played a practice round yesterday for the Open and his clubs hadn't been cleaned in a decade. Seriously. If he tried to get his clubs dirtier he couldn't. I gave him homework of cleaning his clubs.....A+!

He is a good player, obviously from his swing videos. He struggled a bit early with some hooks, but hit 6 iron about 20 and made it for birdie on 17 and then driver hybrid to 10 feet and made eagle on 18.....I would take that finish Monday!

Ship ... I see from the USGA site that after you qualify at the local, your sectional is in Memphis. Did you plan that, vs. Dallas, or did it just happen that way?

I requested Memphis and then Columbus and Dallas last. The PGA Tour plays the Memorial and ST Jude right around those sites so there are always full fields on 2 courses with 20+ spots....of course the entire field is PGA and Nationwide Tour players but I would rather travel to a site with more spots than play for 2 spots in Dallas. You most likely have to shoot roughly the same number but you eliminate the chance of 2 randoms getting hot that day and making the number go really low. Plus you will most likely get paired with a PGA Tour guy and that's always fun.

ya I hacked it up, but afterward I figured out my score and it was 76, which in my current mental state towards playing the game I cannot complain about. My clubs had been cleaned in the past decade, but probably not in the past 3 years. I mean when they come out of storage like once a year what's the point?

Ship kicked my ass, it's a fairly easy golf course even with the wind blowing 15-20mph all day, even easier if you drive it the way he did for much of yesterday.

Did you read that he's already been assigned Memphis for sectionals?

However, I'm curious to know if the Memphis(Tunica) qualifying course is currently underwater. If so.....

^^^^^^ Lightening its a$$ off also. I was on the range 30 minutes ago and now I can't see 30 feet outside my office window.

As for the qualifying course I am pretty sure they go off how you finish at locals to assign you to your sectional event. Meaning if I get the last spot out of locals I could get sent anywhere.

Not sure here, but I think this is the first time BO made a sarcastic comment and was somewhat wrong. Come on people here is your chance to pile on...he isn't wrong often. Aside from his delivery that is...

I'm rooting for you to make it through. If for no other reason than to see you have Memphis confirmed so I wasn't somewhat wrong.

You see the scores from Stonebridge Monday? Holy crap was it playing difficult. Miss the fairway by a foot and can't advance it to the green. Pissed away 6 strokes around the green, like Tiger I need more reps in competition.

I did see the scores....that was a tough day. I thought your number was very respectable.

Certainly more than the kid who shot 103. In theory you have to be a 1.4 or less to enter. I don't know many courses a 1.4 can shoot 103 on, but that course, that day...I think it is possible he actually is a 1.4 and had a bad day.
