Nothing good comes from resenting people you do not know and will never know for getting rich.

Personally I know a couple pro athletes that took lesser deals to "help their team" then get screwed in the end. The 3-4M left on the table makes a big difference when ya retire at 33. Again moral of the story is always take the pay raise if it's for the same job.

Really don't understand the victory lap by the LIV fans. LIV is dead. What are they cheering for here? The Saudis infiltrating more of our institutions because they were born on oil deposits? Terrific.

So I assumed that Rory and Tiger and probably guys like Rahm and Scheffler must've known about this. But they are saying that none of them knew. What does this deal even mean? The players are the tour.

I'm no Chamblee fan but why does Jay Monahan being a turncoat make Chamblee wrong about anything he's said? Now there are just more sell outs to call out.

Chamblee is a commentator who gets paid for his opinions. "Should not be allowed on television again", lol. For what, not cheering on the Saudi wealth fund and being anti-sportswashing?

As commissioner he lied to the players told them to hold out strong . Chamblee seems to be standing with his position . I don't agree with it always but at least he is staying consistent

Things change. The PGAT was going to continue to lose top players and were losing sponsors, also who knows how the court battles were going to go. Basically no more Tiger and the slow bleed of top talent he had to make a decision for what was best for the tour and the game of golf going forward.

Hindsight he was firm and tried his best to keep the top players but with the majors not following suit and LIV eventually going to get OWGR'S there's no way the PGAT alone could compete with a tour that had endless amounts of money.

He's been completely unhinged and has done nothing but add to the division in the golf and that goes for people on both sides. He's been so unhinged and against one side there's no way he can be unbiased in the future. The golf channel, the new alliance and the game of golf don't need that kind of rhetoric.

I don’t think the bleed of talent is anywhere near what the LIVtards wish it was. Bottom line imo is that neither party was interested in legal discovery and that brought them to the table. I’m guessing the PIF basically pushed a black check across the table and Jay and Dunne blinked

I agree re: victory laps. Nothing really changes except players getting more money. I’ll believe the team component when I see it.

The Saudi angle is a thing IMO but the pearl coughing was over the top. LIV was a disaster as a stand alone product but the deep pockets win all in the end

Incorrect. They had less than half a year to be on tv and get started. Would have been awesome if rumors of Hideki, Rahm, Xander and Cantlay leaving all happened and it truly was just the top 60 players in SGT duking it out. Oh wait that's what the PGA Tour was planning to do next year for the designated events. Too bad it took LIV coming around to wake them up to things like that, along with paying up vs hogging money.

lol oh come on. HE'S NOT A JOURNALIST.

Of course he's not unbiased. He's a talking head, paid handsomely to draw in viewers to Golf Channel. As easily the GC's most recognizable personality, he's doing exactly that.

Interesting...
Quote:
The Northern Irishman went onto confirm that, while he played no part in the deal, he was aware lines of communications had opened and conversations were taking place. Jimmy Dunne, the man who helped author the deal, called Mcilroy at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to let him know it would be announced.
I guess if Rory were important enough to be informed of the deal making, would he not be important enough to give it a thumbs up? Everything he has said to date to me indicates he played a role in this, to what extent IDK.

Exactly. My firm actually does a lot of antitrust, but I don't personally. When one of your reasons for the merger is to "eliminate a competitor" and you settle an antitrust suit but creating LESS competition, you're going to have antitrust problems....

And I also read that neither said actually consulted antitrust counsel in any of these discussions before the announcement.

This sounds like a long ways away from even being on paper, let alone approved.

I am not an antitrust lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but ...

If you have 1 tour until ~ 2021, then two-three years of two tours, then back to one, is that really a concentration of monopoly power? Seems like you could argue that it's just a return to status quo ante. One that the antitrust folks probably didn't ever challenge.

You’re insane if you think the rollout of LIV and its distribution was anything but a disaster. Like living in a false reality

The only reason this happened is because Saudis put pressure on the Tour financially and neither party was interested in discovery.
