Are tennis and bowling professionals being banned or can they be banned because they have played certain events?

Is the PGA supposed to charter private jets for them and their caddies and pay all expenses? You can't compare them to the Saudis who have unlimited money. And you can't compare them to the NBA, NFL, or MLB because their revenue is not as large as those leagues and they are not as popular.

The Saudi money is messing with everyone's expectations of what PGA players "should" make. But it isn't real. It's funny money. You can't compare it to anything. PGA players do very very well. I'm not even including equipment deals, endorsements, etc.

Someone mentioned the reserve fund which is paying for increased purses next year. This fund helped keep the Tour going during Covid, even with no fans. That's why you need a reserve. Saudis don't need a reserve of course, since their money is almost unlimited.

Me

Please the reserve fund was never created for Covid. I am curious how much is in there. I wouldnt be shocked at over a billion

Also look at what Triple A and Double A players make. I read that the salary was like $300 a week and they just raised it to $500 a week. Yikes

their irs filing in 2019 i shared had 3.38 billion in assets and 2.15 in liabilities meaning they are sitting on over a billion in cash, perhaps this dropped a little with covid but still was 1.2 billion in net assets pre covid

a lot of minor league baseball players are struggling but those salaries are deceptive because most signed multi million dollar signing bonuses, yes there's a lot of "chip and a chair" guys in the minors desperately hoping they break out but anyone drafted in the top 200 is getting over a quarter million dollars at signing and they'll know within 2-3 years if they have any legit chance at the mlb so their actual earnings are a bit higher than the 26k a year they make in weekly payments as it's front loaded - sure many blow through it and live paycheck to paycheck and some drafted so low they didn't even get a 6 figure bonus for sure

yes, there are some washed up minor leaguers in their late 20s and 30s who've since burned through that signing bonus money and work to sell cars in the offseason but they aren't in the top 2k of baseball players in talent

Exactly. Tennis probably a better comparison as it's an individual sport where most of the focus is on the majors. There is also a tour of regular events that generates far less interest.

Trying to compare golf to a team sport where an owner pays the salaries, and the owners are competing with each other for talent, makes no sense. Individual sports are almost always meritocracies where those who perform best make the most.

Look at a guy like CH III, just signed with Liv. Made well over $40 million as a non-star playing professional golf. He just had to be consistently better than average to make millions. Guys who don't perform to that level, don't make as much or flame out altogether. That's the nature of individual sports.

Recent Subpar podcast had Hunter Mahan on. I would think he's a little too washed up even for LIV, but when they got on the topic his responses were a little too "energetic" and pointed for someone who's "just spending time with his family."

after years of ignoring, i finally caved and agreed to stop blocking pga online ads instead of clicking "i will not support"

and this is what the do to me on first day of ads

i simply can't imagine anything more grossly incompetent from a user experience perspective

you don't have to root for liv, but it'll be nice to see the pga have a genuine reason to try harder

+1

The tour model is a flywheel effect. If you have the best players in the world then fans will show up / watch, if the fans are there you can get sponsors, the sponsors pay for the best players to show up.....

But the flywheel is way out of balance. The problem is the tour is largely run by the players, that's why they have "playing opportunities" for dinosaurs in lame events. The sponsors are hanging in there, but how long will the John Deere's and Barracuda's of the world want to pay for events with no names? But the biggest problem is the fan never seems to have a seat at the table. Their neglect (and what seems like contempt sometimes) for fans is what leaves them open to disruption. There is a reason the Saudis picked golf to attack.

Looks like Barkley said the same thing as Phil with different words.

So many rumors and some turn out to be false... but saw one that Hidecki is next and it quoted a figure of $400 million(!!). Good luck PGA Tour competing with that.

Scott Piercy seems like the prototype Liv golfer. Surprised he's not there already.

Are they going after McCord for commentary? If so, not a bad move. He is pretty entertaining.

He's old and already banned from Augusta so he may as well grab the money.

First, I love The Masters. But him being banned from CBS coverage of The Masters is all you need to know about how good a commentator he is. In this regard, F*ck The Masters and I hope this doesn't hurt my chances of getting tickets in the lottery in 20 plus years of never getting them,. Of course, I am a local, we rarely get lottery tickets. Because, reasons.
