I think this is a mistake. Most golfers understand. Don't let a bad experience deter you.

If I remember from the post you are referencing, then you aren't that far away from where I live . As long as you give me some notice, I'll join you for a round. I'm not very good, either.

But you can't make birdie from the adjacent fairway this way?

I love courses like this. There is a course near me I sometimes play as a last resort that has a stretch of 3 holes that I refer to as the "danger zone." The holes are so on top of each other that they may as well share one huge fairway. You always have to be on alert. I hate it.

I've only been hit by a ball once on a course. In league play a friend two groups back (he was on 1 tee) hit me with his drive as I was walking on 2 to find my ball. His ball bounced before it hit me. It's amazing how much energy one bounce in the rough takes off the ball. I barely felt it.

LFC, you understand that story has pretty much nothing to do with being paired with strangers, right?

Incidentally, in Norway we have an improvement on the saying 'out of the mouth of babes' which, roughly translated goes something like: "From children and drunk people you get the truth."

LOL dont be! This is the single best and most helpful post ever directed at me on this forum. You are 100% correct. Gonna go out next week by myself. When I'm responsible for an on course brawl I will report back.

I'm heading to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in a couple of days and I'm playing The Currituck Club on Thursday and The Carolina Club on Friday. Anybody have reviews of these places? Thanks.

I almost always play by myself. Used to have 2 regular partners, one hurt his back and stopped playing, the other joined a ritzy private club and won't play the muni with me anymore.

As a person who is pretty introverted and socially awkward there is still some anxiety in wondering who I'm gonna get paired up with. Most experiences have been very good and I've met a lot of nice people.

It's actually been good for me, I'm a lot more comfortable meeting strangers in other situations now, and with making conversation. And I try to be a good playing partner, keep up pace of play, stay positive, cheer nice shots by my partners, etc. Most appreciate it and don't care very much if my skill level is below theirs.

The other day I was on the first tee by myself. Cart pulls up and I asked if the two guys wanted to join. They say sure I think we played before a few weeks ago. They even remembered my name and I took a better look at them. Had a laugh and they reintroduced themselves. Was a fun 9.

This happens to me a ton. I am really bad with names and faces. They never have a problem remembering me though. Guess that's the lefty thing.

As fate would have it I went out to a county course Sunday with a buddy of mine (who also isn't good) and when we get called for our tee time an elderly woman probably in her early 70s asks us if we're the 11:21. We said yea. She was there by herself. Talked like a sailor the whole time and hit the ball straight. If she can show up by herself then I sure can. I just would like to not hit drives in the woods, which I'm really really working on (took a lesson...was more of a disaster then ever on the course but then the next day on the range was hitting them all straight). I think I know most course etiquette though and don't spend time looking for my ball and play fast so I'm done being a pussy and going to start going out by myself a lot more.

Playing today with my father and two brothers-in-law. The 4 of us have never been out together. Really looking forward to it

being paired with strangers is a different experience every single time...which is the beauty of it. consider it like speed golf dating.
the most important thing to remember when you're paired with a stranger is it's because they are willing to play under the same circumstances as you.
they are most likely passionate about the game, they want to get a round in, and they are hoping that the random pairing results in good company for the next few hours.
i would hope anyone who spends effort posting in this thread can spend the same amount of effort on the course making someone else's experience that much more enjoyable.

last year i was dying to play Whirlpool just over the border and couldn't find anyone else that wanted to join me. So I said screw it and booked a tee time as a single, knowing I'd be playing with others. i was paired up with an older guy and an OLDER guy. The OLDER guy could barely bend over to tee it up but he hit it straight (not far). The front 9 took FOREVER but was enjoyable (we had to let a couple groups play through). After 9 the younger older guy told me to I could go on by myself if I wanted. I was conflicted but did so.

Played the back 9 in about an hour but had more fun on the front tbh. The pace of play was hellish but they really were good guys.

I’m taking my auto mechanic for his first round tomorrow in exchange for cheap labor and an inspection sticker.

RIP to my golf cart. Sold it back to the person who I bought it from today. From it lighting on fire and it taking a month and a half to fix, then having it die yet again a month after that, good riddance!

Lol, decided that I am not buying one. Maybe if they decide to allow personal carts onto the course I would reconsider, maybe get one of those Phat Scooters.
