i have a set of taylor made 300 irons (including the 1 iron) for 5 maybe 6 or 7 years. i still love em and hit em great. is there any new technology in irons that i'm missing? how much longer until the irons are truly obsolete?

Yes , there is definitely some new technology IMO. At the PGA Super store I was able to hit my irons and any new Irons on a simulator. They also sell used sets as does Edwin Watts golf. But hey if your happy with what you got then maybe stick with them.

selling my old **** in the marketplace if anyone's interested

I'm taking a golf trip with some friends and we are thinking of some little side bets for the trip. We are playing four rounds and have the following:

Snake - Whoever has snake (increase $.25 per 3putt) after all four rounds pays.
Par 3 Star - Most Closest to Pins
Low Score Single Hole
High Score Single Hole pays penalty
Best 18 hole score
Low single round

Any other neat ideas for bets that we can tie together over four rounds?

We bought those chips Sand, Trees(desert), water, 3 putt. If a guy gets one he gets the chip if another gets it that guy must take the chip Whomever holds chip at end must pay the other guys

i tell you, those are some boring categories...

lowest score single hole...that's gonna be a tie between you and your buds with a 2.

so let's see...furthest approach shot to the green, birdie streaks, feet of putts made (though hard to keep track of) and bounce back (realistic the best here is a 5 where you go from a double on a par 5 to a birdie on par 3) would be some good categories.

I do like these.

Another question... any of you ever ordered a custom Ping bag? If so, how much liberty do you have in what you get to put on the bag (emblems, words, etc)?

I was thinking more along the lines of putting a logo on the big side pocket and then getting my name on another pocket

Used 09 Burner Irons for $300 plus tax free ship is a decent deal right? It's on Golfsmith with 15% off.

Yup, .5" long, 1 degree upright, S300s in the irons.

I got the Made for Titleist Kai'li in the 910F, which I've heard isn't great, but I liked it better than the RIP. Definitely the best 3w I've ever hit. Driver and irons were custom, but i took the 3w to the range yesterday and hit the back net on my 3rd shot, which i rarely do with my old driver. Good start.

I got the Project X 7C3 in the 910D2.

My current set is now:

910D2 9.5
910F 15
909H 19(LOVE this club, don't need the 910h just yet)
4-PW AP2
52, 56, 60 Vokey
Odyssey White Ice #9 (going to have to replace this to make 100% titleist set, too bad finding Scotty's as a lefty is a HUGE PITA)

yeah i will not be getting the white driver until I'm a lot goddamn better. I already have the white fujikura shaft in my driver which helps me shoot 86 in style.

Thoughts on what makes more sense, a 54 wedge or a 56 wedge? (or something else)

Right now I have a 60 wedge, and I have a 50 wedge (yea a 50 degree wedge, dumbest thing ever IMO, came with my iron set and I was 14 when I got it so at the time it didn't really make a difference). Once I get a new wedge I'm just junking the 50, so what makes more sense? I don't play on any particularly difficult courses and green speed isn't terribly fast where I usually play.

For all those 60-70 yard shots that I just can't quite hit my 60 far enough yet, my 50 wedge just is absolutely awful from that distance and almost always end up hitting it too far.

I play 54/58, and go back and forth on putting my 50 back in the bag as well and just do the 4 wedge thing.

Figure out the yardage gaps in your wedges and then select a group of wedges that have relatively even gaps. If your SW goes 80, GW goes 110, and PW goes 120 then I'd suggest you go to a stronger SW and a slightly weaker GW so that you ideally might be 90, 105, 120 or 70, 85, and 90 if you don't hit it too far but the point is have a relatively similar gap between wedges. If you just love one particular wedge and don't want to change it then adjust all the other wedges around it but don't leave a huge gap between your longest wedge and your 9 iron either.

I used to play a 44' 9 iron, 48' PW, 56' SW, 60' LW. The gap was just huge between PW and SW and I didn't want a gap wedge so I went with a 49' PW, 54' SW, and 60' LW. I used those 3 wedges for almost 10 years.

This.

I currently have a 48 - 52 - 56 - 60 set up and am thinking about going to 58-53-48 so I can add a stronger 3 wood. If I do I will be looking to have distances of 95 - 112 - 130 in my wedges. The 60 with new grooves just isn't working from short ranges anyway so I may as well get rid of it and fill my gap up top. I think I was hitting too many drivers off the tee last year because my 3 wood is a little weak so adding a strong 3 wood and a 4 wood I think will be my play.

I play 48, 54, 60

I feel very comfortable with my yardages since I hit PW about 135 and my SW 54* around 115 and LW around 90. I've actually managed to find a nice 10-2 swing gets my SW around 100 yards though I've heavily considered moving to a 52-56 combo and dropping a 5w or something.

Just bought a year's membership at a local public course (Bayou Barriere). Brag: less than $65 a month for unlimited green fees (weekdays anytime and weekends after 1 p.m.), unlimited range balls, and a handicap. Beat: it's 20 miles away and gas is already up to $3.25 a gallon.

My goal is get from my current 36+ handicap down to scr--no, I think I'll aim for getting it down to 20. I'd start a thread but we have enough of those already. And I'm long-winded enough in the BBV thread as it is. I'm looking forward to playing a ton and hopefully sucking less at it.

Made zero bogies today. Maybe the first time that's ever happened for me. Unfortunately I made 4 doubles for the weirdest 80 ever.
