Gonna be down there on thursday for satellite so I can ask, IF my memory is ok ofc.
But my guess is that the VIP event is already booked for some reason or another.

Was talking with people that work at portomaso yesterday and they estimate around 450-500 players for the €1100 Main Event at least, for those of you thinking about playing.

Hey guys.

Flying to Malta on MONDAY!!!! Can't wait... I have a small problem though. Think it will be a problem to bring my computer+screen 27" into my suitcase, because I'll also take my macbook with me + clothes and other stuff.

I have 2 suitcases 1x15kg and 1x20 kg.. So I'm thinking of buying a screen on Malta so I don't have to take mine with me.

Is this how people have done it, or?

Would appreciate an answer soon.

Cheers!

Electronics are expensive over here. Well, in comparison to Dublin they are anyways. My housemates flew with their desktops and monitors. No problem at all. Although, 27" is a big monitor... hope you've the space for it

Just plaster the case with fragile stickers and wrap it in bubble wrap, towels, clothes, bed sheets etc...

Hello,

I wouldn't trust the airlines not to damage a monitor placed in checked luggage. Although I've heard of some guys doing this successfully, I've had way too many things damaged in the past.

And I doubt a 27" monitor will fit into a carry-on sized suitcase (I think the maximum dimensions allowed are something like 55x40x20cm). I just measured the width of my 24" monitor, and it's 54cm.

There have been a few montiors advertised for sale in this thread in the past, so you might get lucky and get a deal. If not, then you should check out Scan Malta. The only problem might be finding a monitor with 1920x1200 resolution. After searching at several stores a few months ago, I finally got lucky and found a 24" 1920x1200 at Scan Malta and it was the last one in stock. Not sure if this is the norm, but with a quick scan of the Scan Malta listings I'm only seeing 27" monitors that are 1920x1080 .

Good luck and welcome to Malta,

Alan

Yup! Flew a 26" and later a 24" to Malta in the same way.

When packing, put for instance shoes on the sides to keep it in place, soft stuff underneath and on top.

some of these Q's are probably googlable, but i'll throw em in the bunch. Feel free to ignore.

1. +/- of malta compared to thailand? cost of living, security etc?

2. What kind of apartment can i expect for 500-600€ a month? Obviously want to live in a nice and convenient neighborhood, but I'm not going to party every day so it's not a big deal if i don't live smack in the middle of the best restaurants, pubs etc.

St Julians seem popular. Why? Other good surrounding areas?

3. Any good sites to check realistic apartment listings? Tried to google but it shows weirdo **** like per day/week prices that are grossly high.

4. I want to do some combat sports while living abroad. Any good recommendations? Boxing, bjj, mma or thai all good.

5. As a eu resident, is it pretty relaxed to stay longterm (6 months+)? Haven't researched, but seems we can stay in most eu countries without much hazzle, or is this only for work?

6. How's the weather in the fall? august-december.

i realize some of these q's are on the weaker/lazy side, but i'd be happy to get some answers. thanks!

Hello. Anyone know where I can buy a decent 'office-chair' to use in front of my computer when I'm home? Preferably ones that doesn't cost 3-400€ since I'm a non-baller who has to work for a living.

I live in Gzira, and found this one store nearby, but the prices were outrageous. So if anyone have any good tips..
