Usually PLO. Hold'em will go sometimes but not nearly as often as a bigger Omaha game.

Just found this thread as I'm thinking more and more about going to phnom to grind for a while. Are there many communities of players you know of and that might accept newcomers? And is it hard to find decent internet?

Not sure as this idea has grown from nothing to being absolutely convinced that this is something I have to do in just about a week, but probably aiming for August/September.

Have you been before or are you as noob as me?

The Riverking was the second place I ever visited when I first arrived in Cambodia three years ago. This was the first stamp on my passport and I didn't know a single soul in Cambodia. Over the years nearly every friend I have in this country was made through the poker room. Not to mention that the room has helped me with every visa renewal, every apartment I've ever lived in and recommendations for services such as medical care. I honestly don't think I would have lasted as long as I have in this country if it weren't for the Riverking. I'm obviously biased as I work here, but the room really is a close knit community of players who play together both on and off the table.

@unfourunfive I have been to Bangkok for a half year semester-aboard and a couple of other asian countrys. But I haven´t been to Cambodia yet.
The plan is to move to Phnom Penh for lets say 2-3 months and see if I like it.. if not I would move to Bangkok/Chiang mai/Sihanoukville or whatever.

Would be glad to meet some new people. But I will put a lot of time in grinding/studying. Playing low-buyin MTTs.

@poker_triad what´s the lowest stake NLHE cash game at Riverking?

I am also pretty interested in sihanoukville, but didn´t hear a lot of good things about the internet and the power cuts

For all you WarMage fans, I had a chance to hang out with him the other night as he requested that I take him around for his very first visit to the girlie bars. We started out on 130 but it was pretty dead there. Then we went to 136 but he did not like any of the bars that we looked into. It was quickly becoming apparent to me that he wasn't interested in the typical Riverside bar. So I immediately took the group we were with to Mao's, a slightly more upscale place built by the Chinese. I'm not sure why I didn't think of Cyrcee at the time. But then again WarMage's head probably would have exploded had I taken him there. So we ended up at Maos where he seemed to have a great time. He even took to one of the girls there and bought her a few drinks. I won't mention of anything that might have happened afterwards but will instead leave that to everyone imagination. Warmage just hopped on a plane so he won't be back for a while, but it looked as if he had a memorable last night.

For hold'em the daily game is $1-$3 with a min buy in of $100 and we also have a nightly $1-$1 Omaha game with the same minimum.

I'm in pretty much the same spot. Let's meet up when you get there! Most likely will be landing beginning of September, but much can change.

Staying at Riverking for the first while when I get there seems like the GTO option at this point, not sure exactly when tho. I saw on some site that it's pretty much useless to look for apartments online since they're heavily overpriced and not always the same as in the pictures, is it best to just walk around town looking for "for sale" signs when I arrive or how is that handled best?

I bumped into what I assume was Warmage the other night but I thought he had left the Kingdom but looking at those pics it definetly was, he was shuffling from table to table begging players at Naga for a seat for $5 in a $1/2 blind game.... strange chap. Even more stranger was that I believe someone took up his offer.

Go to khmer24.com. Getting the places that are actually listed are a waste of time as they are overpriced. But you use the listings to get the phone number of an agent. Then you tell him or her exactly what you're looking for and then they should be able to help you.

During the low season it really depends on who in town. But it's run four of the past five days and ten times since the middle of last month. Right now we seem to have enough players to sustain it semi regularly.

Okay, thanks for the Info triad. I will come by next week. Can I book a room at the Comfort 2 Star Hotel through you, or could you give me the email/phonenr. of the responsible person?

Thanks a lot!

I'm a little burnt out as we just had our $7,500 guarantee tourney this past Sunday. It's an event that we throw every three months, the first one being in January. So it was the third time we've done it this year and the number of entrants and prize pool has gotten bigger each time. We head 44 entrants with about 15 alternates, 10 of whom got in. The prize pools have been $9,990, $10,100 and $11,375 for this past one. The room and I are thrilled about the turnout as we're still in the middle of low season. As popular as the event has proven to be there are some tweaks that I need to make to the format as the turbo nature of the format is not popular with everyone. Renton pointed out that there fact we get so many alternates is preggers an indication that the entry fee is too low. I'm still not sure if that's the case, but I'll probably at least show the tourney down a bit before the next big one in three months. In any case, I'm taking a bit of a breather this upcoming week and will be taking a short holiday. I'll probably inundate the thread with pictures from my trip WarMage style.
