River King, you can just show up and play. No need for references or invites. You can reach out to Mike (poker_triad) to guide you to the place.

I played mostly at River King and Nagaworld. I have been to Red Fox but it seems like a seedy place to play poker, didn't really feel comfortable so I decided to give it a miss.

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't realize you were going back that quickly. Definitely come into the room tomorrow before you leave. We'll toast to your time here spent with us with some whiskey or whatever your prefer. It's been fun hanging with you too for sure.

Wanted to share some of my experiences playing in Cambodia (Phnom Penh). Was here for 5 days.

River King
The game is very loose aggressive (Players are very willing and eager to play for stacks). If you hate high variance spots, stick to playing ABC poker (premium holdings) and you should do fine. How loose can the game be? I'll illustrate this in a hand being played out where I was not involved in:

Blinds are 1/2/4. Effective stack was about $500+. A nit (regular) opens UTG to $15, MP 3 bets to $55, MP+1 cold calls. Folded around to the nit who jammed for his whole stack. MP folded. MP + 1 thought for 30 seconds and called. The nit showed AA (of course) and the board bricked when it ran out. Nit more than doubled his $500+ stack to $1000+. Must be nice.

Loved the comps (free food and drinks). Players are generally quite friendly and approachable. Fishes are easily identifiable and they are your money trees. Majority of your winnings should come through them.

Dealers are fast and well-trained. You get in more volume/hour as a poker player.

Naga Casino
The game is generally tight passive. Players are not willing to stack off pre-flop. Focus on post-flop play. With TPTK, your hand is often good enough to value-town your opponents on all three streets. And they are willing to pay off.

The game here is easier in a sense since there's lots of limping and you can see more flops. It's much cheaper to get away when you miss. On the other hand, you get value when you hit the board.

You can show up at anytime, no invite needed. If you need help finding the location you can ask here or shoot me a PM. As far as what else to check out, I heard Cambodia has some stuff, but between playing poker, going drinking/whorring and getting massages I really haven't seen much else. Let us know when you're getting in and we'll be sure to toast your arrival and have some fun on and off the tables.

Poker triad is well known for being Cambodia biggest nit. I think he have about 85% fold to 3bet against me.

One of the best and most informative ( and entertaining) threads ive ever read on here ! Thanks . Can a new player come and stay at the riverking for 18 bucks a day with meals and booze while playing poker ? And if he doesnt want to committ to poker hours in the poker room what would the aproximate rate be (and is there a discount for a few weeks or month paid in advance?) Dont need anything exact just worse case scenario numbers wise . And thanks in advance !!! (more of a vacation with poker mixed in)

New players can get three free days upon arrival, with three hours of cash game play each day. After that they can get four more days at $10 per, once again assuming you play three hours each day. After that you can have the $18 rate indefinitely with little play requirement.

18 a day is a very good rate considering no travel expenses and no wasted time commuting

I've only been to RK once and wasn't paying too much attention to the surroundings but it seemed like a fairly residential street. There isn't really a big choice of restaurants within a 2min walk or am I mistaken?

The Riverking is in a fairly busy area with Pontoon so close by and there are tons of good restaurants nearby. Without doing a search I can name from memory Himajin, Cousins and Romdeng. Himajin is one of the more popular Japanese restaurants in town. You'll find very authentic Japanese cuisine there and they have a lunch set that is ridiculously cheap. Cousins is a burger joint that is fairly new but they have both very good hamburgers and hot dogs. The prices are reasonable and the service is top notch. Romdeng serves traditional Khmer dishes, but done so with a modern twist. You can find everything here from traditional curries to provincial delicacies like fried tarantulas. I was just speaking with some friends over dinner tonight that the food game in Phnom Penh has really stepped up in the last couple of years and this neighborhood is a good indication of such.

I didn't really get to play today that much as I had dinner plans with the Riverking's Operating Manager and a few other friends. We ended up at a French restaurant that I had never been to before called Le Saint Georges. The place was the nuts as we ended up ordering three appetizers, four main courses and four desserts between the four of us. The restaurant isn't exactly cheap, but the room's Operator picked up the entire bill as he so often does. Actually I don't think I have ever had a meal with him where he didn't pay.

A funny thing happened when I briefly went outside to smoke a cigarette. I saw the owner of the Cyrcee Secret Bar and we chatted for a minute or so. He told me about how much he loved this restaurant and even suggested what I should order. I suppose I found it at least a bit amusing that the proprietor of the local brothel gave me fine dining tips on which French dishes I should order. I wish I could go to this place more, but if I did I would go broke in two months.

We ended up back at the Riverking, but only to meet up with some other friends as we had planned to go out. We ended up at Street 104 and while we went to a bunch of different bars, it didn't seem as if anyone wanted to take a girl home. To be honest I didn't really feel like taking a girl home tonight either. I'm still fighting off a mild cold and I didn't really want to spend the night with anyone else in my bed. When these girls get a nice place to sleep for the night, they really fight for every inch of real estate on the bed and with the blanket and pillow so that I usually never get a good night's sleep when I bring one home. So we just kind of messed around in a few bars on that street before heading elsewhere. The guys that I go out with definitely know by now that I post a lot of pics here so they've become even more camera shy than the girls lately.

We actually did not end the night there as I was persuaded to join the others at Pontoon. I'm not really a club guy and I haven't been to this one is something like two years. But Yazzx was really persuasive in convincing me to go. So of course I really appreciated it when he left five minutes after we arrived. We got some girls to join our private booth, but on this night I drew the short straw as I managed to get the worst one. Not only was the girl just way to aggressive, but she was wearing a t-shirt and jeans which is a total turnoff for me in spots like this. They don't have to wear a cocktail dress or anything but at least some shorts would have been nice. I like to both see and touch some of the goods and I was afraid that if I took her home I would unwrap her only to find legs hairy as Sasquatch under those jeans. It didn't really matter as I hadn't planned on taking any girl tonight, but as it so often happens she said something, did something or touched me somewhere that got me rethinking my decision. So I asked her how much and when she said $50, that pretty much put the nail on the coffin and I went home alone shortly thereafter. I think the next time we go out, I'll just go and get one of my regulars or go to the aforementioned Cyrcee.

Hi, I'm planning to move to snooky in April.
Is the internet usually good enough to play online poker in apartments
and hostels? Or will I always have problems because of low connection and
frequent power cuts?

Best regards

In short, no. Many apartments and guesthouses in Sihanoukville offer free Wi-Fi but they are rarely good enough that I would trust it for playing online. And as you mentioned, the blackouts can be quite frequent especially during low season. I was just there during the WPT and on one day we had a rolling blackout that caused the power to go out every few hours during the entire day. What I would suggest is that you always play online tethering to the data plan on your phone. Just make sure you get a good 4G plan like Smart. I'll also add that's it sounds like you'll be going there im during the middle of the low season. If live poker is any part of your income then I would seriously rethink your decision to go to Sihanoukville. The cash games will be near dead and you'll be playing the same four guys everyday. And even though they'll probably be fish, they won't have any money for you to win off them. As we just finished stints living there, both Pronto and I can attest to this all too well. But if you don't rely on live poker at all, I wish you luck.

The Rake seems to be reall high. from the countings one lad done, the room will make about 110-130 an hour from the 1-2-4 game.
thats 1000 dollar in a da.
So Riverking makes at least 30 000 dollar a month. this is not included from PLO
so sa at top end can bring in up to 50 000 D. The dealers still expect TIPS from the plaers as the room not give the mountl salar.
Man things in this tread is just about how positive everthing is in that room. Keep in mind the owners makes huge amount off mone. And given that is a high rake compare to an game u can find and with tips+its kind off the same plaers da in da out, ver small plaer pool. Pokertriad gets around 1000 a month from the room i guess
A couple of corrections first. The dealers do not expect anything. Tipping is completely optional and the dealers do not do or say anything to imply otherwise. It's certainly appreciated and most players do tip, but once again that is up to them. Secondly, the dealers do receive a salary.

Like any other poker room, the Riverking is a business and one of its chief aims is to make a profit. And while you go to great lengths to discuss how much is supposedly brought in, you say nothing of how much goes out. As previously mentioned the dealers do get a salary, along with everyone else on the staff from the managers to the serving staff. Not to mention that every single meal is free for all players. And the food here is good, otherwise players wouldn't constantly come in just to eat. To whom by the way we say nothing to because it's a club atmosphere here and we never pressure players to make them feel like they have to play to earn their free food. Add to this the free whiskeys that are flowing all night, all top shelf of course.

And all of this is even before I mention all the free hotel rooms we give away. We've had about twenty people come in this month for that promotion and not a single one has had a negative thing to say about our poker club. We're very upfront with them and all our players regarding the operation of the games. The rake is displayed on the table for all players and is dropped in plain sight. We have placards available for all players to see the drop in each game. A drop by the way that we admit is not the lowest, but certainly more than competitive for the region.

From a player's perspective the rake can always be lower. I've played at the Venetian where players had a $4+$0 rake, got free doughnuts and coffee, and still complained that they weren't getting enough. I still understand the point, but I feel confident in saying that the rake is equitable in terms of what we need to cover the costs of the room. And it certainly is beatable. There are long time forum members who live here and play in the games at Riverking and rely on them for their sole source of income.

People will always bittchhiing about the rake and etc,but when there's no other place to play, eventually they will play and pay no matter how high the rake is..

If you read the thread from any other poker room in the region of SouthEastAsia and Macau,RK rake is decent/normal - and you get FREE room ,food and surprisingly booze lol

The hotel promo is very appealing,I hope can visit there this year..

Cheers

A new player in the room was going home today after visiting with us for a week, so we took him out to the Riverside for one last go around last night. We lost him at some point as I think he might have found a girl. The rest of us soldiered on and lately when we go out we have a mantra that we constantly repeat, but break nonetheless. "Never Rose Bar," but FML we always end up at Rose Bar.

Somebody ban this troll plz.

Poker Triad has posted tons of cool sheit and good info for people in this thread. Hes carrying this thread to being readable on his back. Personal attacks from a troll account with 2 posts are super weak.

Who care if hes working for the poker room hes been up front about it. Hes clearly helping out and offering more to this forum then most. I hope to get over to riverking and check out the games sometime. Sounds like some good times to be had to me.

I really appreciate the kind words and support. Anyone who's read this thread for a while knows that I have tried to offer as much helpful information as possible, long before I worked at the Riverking. I am reminded that this is how I essentially met 4_chainz. He had posted on this thread when he first arrived in Sihanoukville and although I had never met him I nevertheless met him for a drink. I just really hate the idea of anyone getting taken advantage of because they don't know the lay of the land. I know what it is like to be in a foreign land where you do not know anyone. I've been more than fortunate in this regard and I just want others to have a similar type of experience that I have had here in Cambodia.
