Thanks Jsplit for sharing, I looked through the 2 hotel you suggested, it's out of budget for long term stay, I'm actually looking for a 2bedroom apartment best with pool and gym, budget wise preferably 1000 a month. I actually got 2 friends coming over in late feb who will be bunking in together so I just need to find a place 1st. My gf will only be staying with me for the 1st month though. That's why I deliberating on getting an apartment 1st or not.

Another qns, the 6mth and 1year business visa can be easily obtained when I land in PP? I'm from Singapore btw, we can always meet for drinking and some fun.

I have a few questions, are there public swimming pools where I can take a dip? Are there parks where I can go for a run in the day? Besides poker and drinking, what other entertainment do PP offer? Appreciate it for your help guys.
I really wouldn't stay at Long Live if you're with the girlfriend. It's not a place I would ever feel comfortable with having my girlfriend coming or going during the evening hours. Try One Up Banana Hotel on St. 51:

http://www.1uphotelcambodia.com/

It's in a very touristy area so it is very safe and there are a lot of options in terms of restaurants and such. The staff is great there and they have a no sex tourism policy which may present an appropriate atmosphere for a young traveling couple. It's a boutique hotel and there aren't many rooms so it may be tough to rent one out for a straight month. But if you are able it will probably cost around $750. They also own the building next door and have rented out the 2nd floor apartment to me in the past for $750/month.

You get 30 days on landing, then when thats up you can extend for 6month or 1 year.

Around how many poker players are living in sihanoukville? I've got some say in one of the poker rooms down here and I'm trying to set a prize pool guarantee tournament with enough overlay to get people talking about it/coming back, and kick some proper 1/2 games off afterwords/during.

I guess my real question is what buy in would you set and what guarantee if you were in my shoes? I could probably afford a 500$ overlay on the first one, I was thinking 50+5 with a 2k guarantee... if I get 30 people to show on the first one I'd be content... I'm new to the area... with enough promotion do you think that's still too ambitious? Right now I'm not going to discuss which casino I'm working with, just curious how many people would show... Also, the games around here are sporadic from what I've seen, it would be nice to have a place that has a few tables of 1/2 running every night... does that currently exist? If not I'd like to create it.

Thanks for any input

I would be up for any tournament up to $1000 buy in. From my experience there people prefer rebuys and the $50 rebuy seemed to be doing quite well before.

If you want to get a bigger buy in tournament going you would be advised to inform the Khmer/Chinese/Korean guys from up there as they would travel down if the buy in was big enough/it was 100% going to happen.

If you ran some sort of series like the APPT and promoted it on here/social media i am sure you would do well.

PM me if you ever run anything.

Cheers

thanks,

it would be nice to get some 1k buyins rolling but at the moment i just want to get some bodies in chairs, and 1k's are catering to a very specific crowd in a small pond.

the rebuy idea is not a bad idea, maybe 50+5 2500 gtd 2r 1a

i'm really hoping to just get ten or so replies in this thread saying they'd play, then i'll market it locally and on social media for a month and run it, if it goes well we would have a weekly or monthly tournament full of fish, eventually turning the room into the go to spot for rich people on vacation to come and give money away

i know once i get 4-5 tables worth of people in this room, with a fair amount of locals, its going to be the beginning of something

golden island has 1 or 2 tables of 1/2 running regularly atm. mostly british/french/scandi expats who seem to play those games on the reg also quite a few koreans. i've been told the games moved from fortuna over there even though it's supposed to be better in every regard (rake, service, food, tables)

id play the occasional donkament but probs only once or twice a month. 100+R or 200+ freezeouts would be awesome but that wouldn't work out i assume. 55+R/100 FO would get more people but 30+ for the first one seems ambitious.
only been here for 1 month so this is all speculative.

If you would manage get some 2/5 running i would love you long time!

lol, if you're winning keep grinding/studying, if you're losing you could be in serious trouble.

So you were wrong, which is why I pointed it out to people who haven't been.

Pattaya also has more variety than PP.

Well, no. I wasn't wrong. Since I was not comparing Cambodia to Bangkok. I was comparing it to Thailand in general. I live in Samui and many other forum readers live in places like Chiang Mai or Phuket. Neither have anywhere near the number of options as BKK for obvious reasons.

BKK and Pattaya are vastly different to any other place in Thailand and very different to Cambodia too. Someone who feels they would be bored anywhere except BKK/Pattaya is probably not going to be very interested in Cambodia anyway.

And Thailand in general, has way more variety than Cambo.
I mentioned Bkk and Pattaya , as you mentioned western chinese food. And I found Chiang Mai to have a huge variety of food options.

Let's agree to disagree.
