Going to Sihanoukville tomorrow, and saw an old post in this thread from triad saying that live poker wise it's pretty much Golden Island or nothing. It this still the case? Anyone got new info about what games are running and where?

There are several games now, but it's an interesting scene to say the least. Ya Du Li in between the Lion circle and the duty free shop at Golden Sands is probably your best bet. They have one poker room in the lobby which is rented out by a pair of Taiwanese brothers and is probably the game of choice by expats. It used to be the crazy game with all the Chinese players, but the hotel has now set up a competing game on the opposite side of the same lobby and now they all play there. I have no idea what's going on there for the hotel to rent the space out to one entity, only to set up their own in the very same space to compete with them. You'll also find games at the OC hotel and New Golden Wealth in downtown. But it's very much like the wild wild west out there as rules hardly every apply. Players will pass each other chips during the hand, they often talk in their own language to collide during a hand and if they don't get a ruling in their favor they all basically leave. Pronto jump in as I'm sure you're more the resident expert on Sihanoukville at the moment.

if you walk in on the right side is the small game with 2 tables 1/1 min $20/max $200 and three times a week even a game with 25cent blinds

on the left side there is 1/2,it's a chinese game and the min buy in depends on who is playing,atm it's ranging from min $300 to min $1000 as far as i know there is no max..

if you sit down at the 1/2 tables be aware that at least 80% of the players are chinese who can't speak english and you are more a guest than a customer in their game,so don't count on any rules and don't complain to much,it will only make you look bad in their eyes and beside of that it will change nothing.

OC is pretty much dead now,but in a few days there will be a new game in Golden Pearl Casino,which could have potential judging from location and players who will start it..

Hello everyone. Just registered for 2+2 but I've been lurking through this thread for the past three months. Been working and saving up to make the trip out to SEA and hopefully settle down for a while, banking on anywhere from a year to 3. First stop might be TH just to get acquainted but the goal would be to hang around in Cambodia for a couple of months and then from there the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur and Vietnam. It feels good to finally be apart of the community and not just a spectator, but I wanted to ask anyone who is still in Cambodia or any South East Asian country how you're able to stay out there long term? Online work, savings or investments? If you don't feel comfortable posting here in thread feel free to PM me, and thanks. PT, regardless of your posts and activity in this thread slowing down its gr8 entertainment and changed my outlook on the rat race and my life in general, atleast in this present moment.

When I first came here it was with a significant bankroll and my intention was to do nothing else but play poker. I'll be honest in saying that didn't work out and that is part of the reason why I now work at the Riverking; the other reason being that I do love the room and the people I work/play with. The reasons for it not working out really wasn't due to losing or anything like that as my winrate in this country is still positive, but two things basically hindered my pursuit. I didn't put in enough volume and the second reason is directly related to that in that I lived my life in excess a bit too much. The nightlife here is great, as evidenced by my past posts. But I enjoyed it too much in going out with friends all the time to get drunk and get girls. Not only did the lifestyle drain my bank account but it didn't exactly put me in the proper condition physically and mentally to play poker. So I took a lot of days off and even when I did play what used to be eight to ten hour sessions quickly became three to five hour sessions. Also I spent a lot of money choosing to stay in hotels instead of getting an apartment and when I finally did I would usually get too nice of a place that cost too much. I forgot the thing that a lot of players tend to forget, especially in a place like this, namely that I was playing poker so that I could make money to do the fun stuff and not do all the fun stuff all the time and fit in poker when I could. So things in moderation are fine and life here can be very fun and relatively stress free as long as you find the right balance. That is from a player's perspective. Hopefully others can chime in about doing other things for money/work.

NGL the baller degen lifestyle is what sucked me in, and seeing you can live two months on what I make working for three weeks made Cambodia look so sexy. I would say it is your fault not the cashiers, I play in reputable casinos in the US and when I go cash out I do not care who is behind me. I take my time and count the chips out as I am giving them to the cashier. Put them in the rack in nice easy to count stacks. The 2 stacks of red would have stayed in the rack, the greens I would have piled up and stated how much it is and so on. After she counted them out I would again say how much it is and tip her a white chip or 2 for the effort and the patients it took. Plus she is happy for the tip and the people behind me now feel obligated to tip her too.

You've already got enough money to live on for 1 year+?
I'd say continue to try and grow your online income to $1k+ a month to stretch your savings more and not have to play poker too often.
Also it can be argued that Bangkok has a better live poker scene than PP so don't think that you don't have any options during your stay there.

Striking the right balance in life is an internal issue within the person. While certain places offer people the opportunity to do so, those who want to degen it up will find both the opportunity and location that will allow them to do it. Not everyone that comes here destroys themselves or lives like a monk. I can think of two players/friends who live here who are at neither end of the spectrum but rather live a very balanced life. They also happen to be winning players in poker. I would ask if their is a correlation but such would merely be a rhetorical question.

I remember when I was attending University many years back my family gave me an interesting choice. During my second year they said they could either get me a car but that I would have to commute from home or that I could get an apartment near campus but that they could not afford both. I often think of this when I ponder on my life choices in Cambodia over this past year. I did the whole baller pad thing when I lived in Vegas and it went a long way towards doing me in. So I got a very basic $150 per month studio apartment that was perfectly fine and it allowed me to enjoy a quality of life that was much more fun. By making this small sacrifice I got to go out, get girls and enjoy the occasional orgy while doing everything within my monthly budget of around $1,300 per month.

Agreed that the night market is fine, especially if you're looking to spend a night out soaking in more of the local flavor. It was just a lot to take in that night I met you. I went back after with some friends and we had a good enough time.

PT, Next time I'm in town remind me about the above and I will go into detail about why footage is rarely if ever accessed and available in NW (Don't want it public etc).

Primarily it exposes the casino to situations where X person asks for Footage, and Y person also now wants footage. Rules were changed due to a huge situation between some local Business Bongs, where person A gambled a ton away, and person B got footage etc..

Yazz, Cage footage is much easier to obtain, as its not primarily surveillance controlled as each window has separate cameras. You can ask for them to review their window camera(s) to see the split out of chips (Camera inside the roof of the cage cashier window looking down, hence why when counting chips they split them length ways) but it may be archived now. I have seen certain situations resolved by this camera, as primarily its really difficult to follow you from the table to the cage without any dead spots. Where the cage window is 100% controlled environment.

Unless you are a really great player you need either savings or incredible discipline to live here as PT as already alluded to. Personally, I very rarely play cards anymore. I lived and played for ten years in Vegas but I lived the lifestyle too much and it's hard to keep up. When I moved to Thailand I had enough money to get by for a year. But I've always been good at developing online businesses and knew I'd get something going eventually. I managed a gogo bar in Bangkok for two years while I tried various things. Finally got my business built up, have several employees now and can live a nice lifestyle without having to worry. You're on the right track with a YouTube channel already. Work on expanding that or anything else you can do online or remotely. Don't rely on poker unless you want to grind out the hours and not do the degen sht.

So when I went back there the next day I told the dealers that I had a problem yesterday with cashing out and they insta knew what I was talking about and got on the phone to call somebody... 10 minutes later a woman turns up and begins to tell me that they checked the cameras and saw that I cashed out $500 something... I told here that before I left I was told that they would check the stack that I had just before leaving the table (I knew it was between 6.55-7am, can't be too difficult).. She left for 20 minutes and came back to tell me that they checked the camera of the table after we left to see if I left anything behind but they cannot check it 5 minutes before when I was sitting there I got the impression she was bull****ting me and didn't check anything. At this point I had pretty much already given up and just accepting it as a lesson learned... I think if I tried hard enough and spoke to someone else I could have gotten something done, the woman I spoke to obviously didn't want to help but the people I spoke with before seemed like that they might actually help.

It's the first time I've ever had a problem cashing out in any poker room, so will be extra careful from now on.

Yeah always count at the table before you go to cashier, don't know how often they told me wrong numbers, would probably have lost up to 1k if i would rely on the staff..

I was told that all forms of poker are illegal because gambling is illegal in Thailand. Not true?

It's illegal but there is still a live poker scene in Thailand,look for gutshot poker club on facebook if you want to play in bangkok
