Both the hold'em and Omaha games have been really good lately. The hold'em game held all night from Monday to Tuesday and eventually became $2-$5 from it's original $1-$3. That game broke around 11:00 AM finally which I admit too the sails a bit out of the day game. But the nightly $1-$1 Omaha game was insane as usual. I was off my shift but stuck around to track pots for an hour and the average pot size was $183. It broke at 2:00 AM and marked the first time in four days the room didn't go round the clock. As I'm writing this we have nine names on the reserve list for the 1-1 Omaha game, so it should be another good game. The 5-5 Omaha game still goes for the VIPs on most days for those who wish to play bigger. The hold'em game starts around 12:30 PM each day, the 5-5 Omaha game anytime between 4:00 and 6:00 PM and the 1-1 game goes off at 7:00 PM.

I have become such a regular in Phnom Penh that even the pool staff at Naga addresses me by name. I find that it's the best place in town to go to for swimming.

Slept for over 12 hours yesterday. Can't believe how tired I was.

Headed over to River King around 4pm. Unfortunately, there was already a full table for 1/3 NLHE. Observed an interesting hand. Pre-flop raise of $10. 2 callers. Three hearts (Axx) on the flop. Original raiser c-bet $25, 2 callers again. Turn landed a heart. Guy in first position jammed for $80+. "What a turn!" he said as everyone folded. "K" I muttered under my breath. The guy turned over K.

Hand reading becomes a sub-conscious skill when you have been playing the game (profitably) over ten years.

I noticed an odd fixture when I came into River King on my first day. It looks like a hospital stretcher. I figured Mike must have put it there for dealers to rest since games have been running non-stop. But why do that since he can send the dealers up to one of the hotel rooms. I finally got my answer today. Saw a handicapped guy (no legs) using this hospital stretcher to play poker. Interesting. I guess this is what I love about the game. No discrimination. Even blind people can play too (You just need an assistant to announce the action and whisper the hole cards into your ears).

Grinded only at Naga today over two sessions of 1/2 NLHE. Not much interesting hands to report. Biggest hand ($450+ pot) was when I jammed AJ into KJ on a xxJJ turn. Pretty standard spot I figured. Feels good to be on the winning side of a cooler hand. I was up about $400+ at the end of those two sessions.

Half a day's worth of work, $400+ profits, is enough to cover one month of living expenses in Phnom Penh. (I am assuming a frugal lifestyle). This is one of the major benefits for a low/mid-stakes player in a third-world country.

If you want to know more about me, I am open to getting drinks and food if you come to Phnom Penh.

Oh yeah, there's a nasty rumor that River King provides free food and drinks.

It's Renton555's birthday so we went out with the owner of the Riverking to Oskar Bistro on the Riverside. Most of what we ordered was quite good except for the prime rib as I don't think the kitchen is aware of how to properly cook one. It was more like a steak than a prime rib, and a tough one at that. Then we headed over to Renton's bar where his girlfriend had planned an elaborate party. A few of the Riverking players ended up joining us and we stayed there for quite some time getting drunk and messing around with the girls. In typical Renton fashion he ordered a happy pizza, something I didn't touch as I had a bad trip the last time. The others had their first and there seemed to be no ill effects. We ran into one of the Cambodian bongs who ended up giving us a ride to Cyrcee bar. He did the most gangster thing I had seen in a while. He spotted a hot girl walking by and rolled down his window to speak to her. All he did was ask her name, ask her phone number then snapped a pic before he drove off. Of course she gave him each bit of requested information with a simple "yes bong" after each reply. I ended up taking two of my regulars from Cyrcee and left the other boys to fend for themselves. I took a few pics but nothing PG-13 I'm afraid. I'm now back in the poker room where there is a full $1-$1 Omaha game. They're all waiting for another one of the bongs who just called in and asked to put this chips down. I don't think anyone is going anywhere for a while.

My body clock is screwed. Been sleeping in the morning and waking up in the late afternoon due to the late-night juicy cash games in town.

Woke up around 5pm yesterday. Was craving for claypot noodle (in tom yam soup) just down the street from where I am staying. Slightly expensive at $2.50 but it's really good. A pity this dish is not on RK's food menu.

Received a PM from Mike that the 1-1 Omaha game is starting and I walked over to RK. The 1-1 PLO game is as juicy as ever, with players getting it in bad in most pots. Gotta love the bad players, they are my "paymasters". As juicy as the game is, you still need to play well to profit.

An interesting hand to illustrate in this PLO session. 1-1-2 straddle. I called with KK52, next player called, a fish potted to $13, 5 callers including me. A local bong (who has not called yet) next to me announced "POT!" to $80+. Only 1 caller. Action got back to me. I showed my hand to the guy next to me (already folded his hand) and confidently threw it into the muck. Both of them got it in on the flop. The limp re-potter showed AAxx. The other guy had a trash hand. Limp re-potter insisted on running it once and he took down a healthy pot of $350+. Must be nice.

KKxx double suited may be a very strong starting hand in Omaha but I was experienced enough to know that most players who limp-repot can only be doing it with AAxx. Moreover, having played with this bong on multiple ocassions, I know he's a complete nit just like me. He's never ever going to limp-repot with a hand like 10 J K Q double suited.

Ended the session with a tiny +$50 profit. Not much but like Mike reminded me, it's much better than dusting -$500 off. Tell me about it. I once burned off $1,000 playing 1-2-4 NLHE and 2-5 PLO in a single day. Not a good feeling.

Went for an hour massage ($8) and headed over to Naga for a short session of Hold'em. Nothing much to report except I was up +$25 after about an hour. The game got short-handed at 4 players and it broke.

I was wondering if I should head back to the PLO game at RK but nah... Decided to call it a night and took a tuk tuk to Le Moon Rooftop Bar for a cocktail. Wanted to check out the place since it's listed highly on Tripadvisor. The drinks here are quite pricey though. My "Cambodian Holiday" cocktail set me back by $6. But it's really tasty and it got me drunk pretty quick. I have low alcohol tolerance. Mike can attest to that.

Who did you show the hand to? To a fish or a regular? The last thing you want to do is educate bad players how to play!

I don't see how showing a player my hand translates to educating them how to play. Maybe it affects my table image but unless I verbalise my thought process leading to my decision, there's very little effect to the game as a whole.

Hey people! Just wondering, how do the games at River King compare to Naga:

Mainly would like to know:

1. How often does 1/2 run at each?
2. How many tables running when it's quiet? (say Tuesday afternoons)
3. How many tables when it's busy? (Saturday evening/night)
4. What's the rake?

Thanks!

1. Games run daily at both. RK games start from around 1pm onwards, sometimes earlier. Naga games start around 8pm.
2. At least 1 table for both.
3. 3 tables. RK once ran 4 tables but that's for a big tourney.
4. RK's rake is 10%, capped at $5. I don't have Naga's rake structure but it's capped at $20 for pots above $400. Mike should have Naga's rake structure with him.

Naga is 5% capped at 20$. There is no 1/2 at RK, there used to be 2/4 but I think now 1/3 is the standard game.
The busy/ non-busy schedule in PP doesn't really follow the usual flow of the western world

1. Naga has a nightly 1-2 game and the Riverking a daily 1-3 game
2. It's low season so 1 to 2 tables, although Naga will get a third game from time to time. Naga has no game prior to 8:00 PM. The Riverking game starts around 12:30 PM and will run into the early evening on average.
3. The Riverking will have a second table a few times a week, almost daily during high season. The frequency of a second table at Naga will be a bit higher
4. We take a 10% capped at $5 commission at Riverking

Also, when are you heading to BKK Mike? You are due for that vacation!
I'm too shy to hit Soi Cowboy on my own!

Also, belated happy birthday to (former fat ass) renton555!
