I am back!
Heard the action at RK has been pretty good so decided to fly in this afternoon to check things out. I was also kind of curious how Mike's new changes to the room were going to affect the game/players/table dynamics.
First off, I love the new rake structure. Besides the rake being easier to calculate for dealers, lowered rake structure means players get to keep more profits to themselves. Pretty self-explanatory yea.
When I arrived at the room, there was a 1/3 NLHE game going. As per my usual strategy, sat down with a min buy-in of $100. I find the game to be slightly tougher compared to the last time I was here. Or maybe I am getting rusty since it's been a while I played cards.
Based on my first session, it seems the game focuses more on post flop play. Less coin-flip situations which seem weird since players can reload for a lower amount of $100. Pre-flop raises are more reasonable, averaging around $10 (3X BB). My strategy of limp-shoving is less useful as players can get away cheaply. Fortunately, I was able to make adjustments to my game. Hopefully, I'll be able to acclimatize to the new changes over time.
Personally, I would prefer the old environment where I can limp-jammed my AK/10 10+ hands. I win a pretty significant pot at zero risk when my opponents fold. Or if I do get called, at worst, I know in a coin-flip situation. Less thinking involved = Less work. :-)
Running it twice seems to make less sense to me now. Before, all-in pot sizes average between $300 to $400. It's quite a bit of money to me so running it twice helps. Now, all-in pot sizes average between $100 to $200. I would be less inclined to do it but if the other player wants, I am not opposed to the offer.
Anyways, dusted off my first buy-in of $100 when I limp jammed AK into AA. Villian flops a set and slow-rolled me on showdown. Like...seriously, for a $100+ pot. -_-
There were more interesting hands when I bought in the second time. Jammed bottom pair/flush draw on a J 2 4 board. Villain had bottom set. We agreed to run it twice. First time, I hit my flush. Second time, I missed. We chopped a $150+ pot. Maybe, I should have run it once? Second interesting hand, I jammed 10 10 (overpair) on a 9 6 5 2 board. Villain had top pair. We agreed to run it twice. I won the first one. Villain hits two pair on the second run. Jeez, again, I chopped a $150+ pot. -_-
The 1-1 Omaha game started around 7pm when the hold em' game got short-handed. Mike wasn't kidding about this being an action-packed game. It started off slow but it began to get juicier as the game progresses. Fortunately, I was able to reverse my initial losses of $100 and ended the session with a small profit of $35. Wanted to stay on but I was getting pretty tired and I hate to play when I am feeling lethargic. Decided to head back to my hostel, hit the showers and then head over to Riverside for a late night massage.
Post massage, I was still itching for some poker action and headed over to Naga. Almost doubled up to $400 my first hour in when villain jams top pair on the turn into my overpair (10 10) on a 7 9 2 8 board. Easy game!
My stack was slowly whittled down to $300+ and I decided to really call it a night during the deck change.
