Is it weird to sit in the front a cab? I've never sat in the back seat of a cab in my life unless I'm with a friend who has already claimed it.

That's right. You can get your hotel/guesthouse in PP to arrange a shared taxi (I haven't had a problem) or share one with some friends. Much better, sleep without any worries of people ripping off your belongings or stash. Just fire up and kick back and enjoy the ride. Also, a taxi will drop you off where you want and not some central point where you have to chase a tok to get you where you want to go.

If you're going for the Poker there are many hotels and guest houses close by. Victory Hill has a wide range and you can get whatever you desire there.

but u were right i dont think he realized he should just be flying to PP...... unless u wants to see siem reap
for $15 you can get the front seat of a taxi and they'll put three khmers in the back. you might be able to get it to $12. that's better than waiting around for a bus and significantly quicker. plus the taxi will drop you off at your hotel.

i did that last time instead of just hiring the taxi for myself. the taxi was ready to leave immediately. i imagine that there are always front seats waiting to be filled since it's the more expensive seat.

i'd rather have three khmers in the back minding their own business than listening to someone in an "i survived cambodia" t-shirt talk about "doing" vietnam...

Bus journeys are a well known nightmare in Cambodia. Get a taxi. It's a no brainer. Make sure the full taxi is for yourself , and travel during the day.

I have lived here all my life, and the best way to get to snooky is by taxi as it is the fastest and most convenient. You can make your taxi pull over anywhere to take pictures. eat. etc.
You can find taxis at the central market in phnom penh and it shouldn't cost more than 50-60 dollars.
Hotels in snooky are all very well priced and finding a room for less than 50 dollars shouldn't be hard. The rooms at queenco are pretty nice and their rates for poker players is only 45 dollars if I remember correctly.
however, if you plan on visiting phnom penh for poker, the game at nagaworld casino isn't the greatest. It's never deep stacked and the players always hit and run when they win a little. I was just there the other night and it took a long time to get the game started and the game didn't last too long either. Last year, the games at nagaworld were great! Lots of action and lots of players, but now, I don't know where they all went?

LOL buses aren't a nightmare. some bus companies are better than others. i have never had an issue on one. taxis are quicker, more convenient, and you won't get dragged into a conversation. a shared taxi costs virtually the same so preferable if you only want to spend the equivalent of a bus fare.

i paid $40 for the entire taxi to sihanoukville 18 months ago from phnom penh. $50 if you can't be bothered negotiating and not a dollar more. $60 is ridiculous.

Your occasional Xmas holidays to SEA aren't much of a sample size. Buses and vans here have a poor safety and security record, read any expat messageboards. Single decker VIP buses on non-overnight trips as a possible exception.

Shocker, prices might be fluid, vary by vehicle or subject to change over 1.5 years.

i'm in south-east asia every few months. you're in thailand you wouldn't really know what's up in cambodia.

cars have a poor safety record in cambodia too.

never had a problem with a bus. takes about 3 minutes of research to find out which bus companies are the most reputable.

i have never traveled on an overnight bus.

anyone paying $60 to get to sihanoukville in a taxi is a sucker. $50 is the maximum.

Thanks, pretty sure I'll be able to get a flt from BKK to PP (spent a month in PP, about 5 years ago).

So, 50.00 for a taxi/van from PP to SV.........how long is that ride??

Oh, any specific recommendation on hotels as the tournament hotel still shows soldout for the tournament dates in July.

$50 is the price if you go alone, if you get people to share you can get for $15ish, according to trolols massive sample size of 1 there are hundreds of taxis sitting and waiting with back seats full hoping anyone will come by and sit in the front so they can go............ i have my doubts because i would bet most locals take the cheap buses since the difference is 3 days pay to an average cambodian

golden bayon van is $10 (can get $8 if you find a travel agent with the hook up) and leaves on a set schedule so you wont be sitting around at the market waiting for who knows how long for a taxi to fill up

its a lil under 4 hours in taxi or van, the key is trying to avoid PP rush hours so dont take the morning time when leaving PP and dont take the 330 time when leaving sihanoukville to go back to PP

i'm saying almost always they'll have one car ready to go, not hundreds.

it's mostly tourists on buses.

if one isn't available then you can get a bus. i couldn't imagine ever having to wait more than 15 minutes in the main taxi stand area of phnom penh. even if you had to wait 1-2 hours for the taxi to fill, then it's still quicker than taking a bus since you'll be there in under 3.5 hours.

Would expect there would be a taxi/driver at the PP airport that would be willing to drive to SV, traveling with a friend so 25.00 each is a deal. Or am I expecting to much??

Any issues with taxi drivers robbing fares?? When traveling in 3rd World countries I will send a text to a friend with the taxi drivers info before arranging for a long distance (unknown route) trip......making sure the driver knows I've done it.

Think I have the travel logistics worked out, now need a decent hotel that is close to the APT site..........recommendation??

now i question whether uve really been in asia (ok always questioned that), because every bus ive been on whether it was PI, thailand, or cambodia has always been over half locals, most of the time like 90%+ locals, even on sexpat routes like manila to angeles or bangkok to pattaya (though the bk to pattaya probably had the most foreigners but still not 50%)

why do u keep arguing against bus when im saying van? who here is suggesting bus?

the airport taxis will try to overcharge good luck getting one there to do $50

snooky is small and not congested so being near to the site isnt to big of a concern, if i knew where queenco was i could give a better idea but either way it wont be taking you more than 10 minutes to get there no matter where u stay

Thanks, guess will look for a hotel in the Victory Beach area.

Have seen previous post where someone had contact info on a trusted (for what it's worth) taxi/driver in PP............any recommendations/contract info??

Oh, I'm poor!!! However, the guy I'm traveling with has lots of $$$$$ (my safety ATM) and is kinda picky..........so will require a nice car taxi or he'll be complaining the entire drive!!! Hotel won't be a problem (3 Star), as once in my room I won't have to listen to him.

Buses are a nightmare all over the world. In Asia, they are even worse.
Research lol. I booked a luxury mini van with a screen and movies. But it was a con. They gave a lame excuse as to why they sent an ordinary mini bus.

I've got mini buses twice in Asia. Both times, the driver was a lunatic. Driving too fast and swerving through traffic. One time, it was torrential rain with very poor visibility. You could feel the fear in the bus. The other time, I was first to be picked up, and was in it for ages. I was squashed into a back corner, no exit, as everyone else was too fat to sit there lol. The luggage was put on the roof. I don't know how it didn't fall off with the swerving, and the pathetic securing straps.
Never again. I fly for visa runs, and get as high quality/ new taxi as I can.

do your research. takes three minutes to find a reputable company.

Would you agree that some expats in Asia get obsessive about trying to do things as cheaply as possible? ( I don't mean you)
They seem to forget about value for money, and instead, think cheapest is always the best option. It isn't. Sometimes the cheapest option makes sense, other times ( likes buses ) , it doesn't.
You want to arrive at your destination, relaxed and ready to pwn. You don't want to arrive squashed, BO in your nostrils , after a 9 hour fairground terror ride! And depending on your hourly, a bus might cost you more.

ive never been cramped in a bus, and would guess they pack more people into a taxi to make it less comfortable unless you get the front seat, and ive heard they try to put 2 up front so u have to buy 2 seats

its still funny that trolol is saying do your research and trying to act like the authority on the subject after saying something as ridiculous as buses are mostly filled with tourists even though anyone whose been traveling asia knows that every other form of transpo that are more expensive are the ones filled with tourists and the buses are what the locals take

It's not guaranteed you get dry rubs from fat sexpats, but it's something you can exclude, by spending a tad more.

Nobody is getting in my taxi!!!! When I get a taxi, nobody else gets in it, I dictate the air con setting, driving speed, absolutely no easy listening 1974 cassette tapes etc. Although, I have had drivers get out at stops when I'm in a hurry to the airport, and disappear lol , or take me to their home etc. That's why I get the most professional service nowadays , for a few dollars more. I don't like to waste money, but it's money well spent, and better VFM.
