Anybody in Lamai at the moment? If yes, then maybe we could get some beers?

But hello to all my fellow Thailand farangs. I live on Koh Samui near Chaweng Beach, absolutely love it here. I'm a bit ticked that I'm not at the full moon party right now, but I had some work catastrophes back in the states that I had to deal with tonight.

I've got a myriad of questions for all the people who have been here a lot longer than I have. But I'll read up a bit more in the thread before I blast away. Main question = any expat poker games on Koh Samui?

Does it make any sense to go to Phuket in late May / early June? I hear there's some surf at that time but I I'm doubtful because of the rain and the quality of the surf.

I've been telling you southern hillbillies for a longtime you're missing out

Being a family man, I actually don't eat out very often, but I do know a lot of restaurants have opened within the last couple of years, so a wide variety of food, both Asian and Western, is available now.

Regarding nightlife there's obviously a myriad of bars, a handful of those have no problem staying open after 2am. There's one nightclub, that a lot of locals frequent (they play a lot of live music, mostly Thai).

Edit: Oh, or are you looking for specific recommendations? Then let me know a day you drop by, we'll go out for some beers or something.

When they go to the beach road from Cape Sienna, on their left hand side they´ll find
Basilico (Italian)
Sweet dreams (thai, located on 1. st floor)
Beerhouse restaurent

These are all good. they should avoid Kamala Dreams Charoen Seafood, though.

On the right hand side is something called Foxtail Plaza, containing:
Buffalo Steak House
Marcuts restaurent (good for everyday eating)
Coconut "something" (Thai food)

Further down they´ll find
Oy´s restaurent (Thai, reasonably priced)
Kamala Seafood (various food, very good imo)

HC Andersen they should avoid like the plague.....

They can also go the main road. Just before main road is Gourmet (pizzaria), and on the main road close to that Kamala Bakery. Think they open at 6am and serve various types of breakfast, thai dishes, you can buy bread etc. Good for breakfast and lunch.

When they reach the first traffic light, on left hand side (just after Beergarden Bar) is Popeyes (Thai).
At the next traffic light is Oh-Lala, which is OK as well.
If they turn right at that traffic light (away from the beach), on the right hand side they find a Mugatai (sp?) restaurent, where you get a small barbecue on the table, and a buffet with various meats and stuff. Its tasty, and most tourists seem to enjoy it.

The only more pricy restaurent in Kamala is Rockfish, which they´ll pass just before they come to beach road.

I definitely recommend they go to the Lotus seafood restaurent at BangTao beach, it is amazing.
Other more expensive restaurents would be Aqua (Italian), White Box, both on the way to Patong, and then 9th Floor in Patong.

Also, having a drink someday would be nice. Let me know when you´ll be in Kamala, then we´ll work something out

There are, but they are mainly hosted by scandis who don't post here and organised on scandinavian language poker forums. They do lurk and read here though so maybe someone will PM you.

Personally I think the idea of holding home games in Thailand is pretty risky, and I really doubt that they would give out details over the internet to somebody they don't know, for obvious reasons.

Can anyone give me a brief description/opinion of the Rawai area? How it fares in terms of living quality, beaches, etc?

rawai has a lot of 2+2ers/poker players and good bars/restaurants people frequent

rawai beach itself is more of a pier. nai harn beach is 5min away which is one of the nicest beaches in phuket. there are also couple of smaller beaches that you need to know about to find them.

imo rawai is a good place to live but if you live in the very south of rawai you are at the south tip of phuket too which is kind of far away from everything like some of the sports we do or from the better shopping options.

i think there is some sort of description of rawai in the sticky too

Anyone has an idea of the cheapest price I can expect to pay for a Montreal - Phuket flight (from May-August)?
Would it be cheaper to do Montreal-BKK and just do the rest of the travel on land?
Approx $ difference between set-dates and open-ended ticket?

can't help for most of this but it's def not worth it going bkk-phuket "by land" to save money.

You can get a flight bkk-phuket for quite cheap though, so if Montreal-bkk is much cheaper it might make sense, yeah.

no idea how flights work from canada but bkk-phuket is like 700-800km by land which takes 12hrs in a bus while a flight takes 1h20min and costs ~$50

Looking at it on AA, the departure flight is around 668$, the return ones are 1300$+, should I simply wait and buy a one-way flight during the summer? Is the massive price difference due to planning in advance?

So many of the sites are terribad. It’s a mess trying to figure this out.

If you are looking for offer transfers or sell stuff, from now one you need to make a post in either the marketplace or relevant transfer thread, and then link to that in your post. There are some liability issues with these types of posts so they have to be policed a bit.

Hello 2+2ers, my wife and I are taking a trip to Thailand in November and looking for some advice on lodging. Here's a little about us:

--big into food...love high-end, low-end, everything...we sometimes plan itineraries specifically around food/restaurants we want to try
--we like to drink, but not big into clubs...we prefer laid back bars drinking beers and listening to classic rock
--we enjoy visiting old school style markets, but not big into shopping in general and malls
--prefer comfortable and large over trendy and small
--looking to spend $100-200 a night

Probably a little vague, but with all that, what neighborhoods (or specific hotels) would you recommend in Bangkok and Chiang Mai?

Thanks!
