Maybe if you stop posting your views on Thailand until you actually experience the country people will stop calling you a troll.

IMPORT HEADS UP: If you have an address listed in the US and live in Thailand you should probably update it ASAP. There is a reasonable chance that in the very near future FTP/Stars will be forced to ban players located in America. While they should do this by IP, they will likely do it by address.

A couple of us from SSNL are looking to rent a house in thailand in Feb and we've been looking at some online.

http://www.thenetworkproperty.com/Ho...ai-agency.html

The agent is asking for 90,000Baht. It seems that's a slight rip off..?

is it standard here that when dealers sell used motorbikes the "distance run" is rigged? went to a market for bikes today and quite a lot of bikes had only around 10k km (and one had the very likely number of (99999 km run, but maybe it just ran more and the system wouldnt handle it)

Any mechanic can change the Odometer readout, it happens plenty in normal countries too.

how many dead bodies have you seen on the side of the road?

I live now 2 months on Koh Samui and I got some electrical blackouts in the last month (probably because of the huge rain). Sometimes it was only half a second and sometimes several minutes/hours.

Cause I have a tower and no laptop my computer restarts if there is no electricity which is pretty bad when I grind.

I would like to know if the electrical breakdowns were an exception because of the bad weather or does this happen regularly?

Otherwise I would buy an UPS like this one, the disadvantage of that is that it's weight is almost 4kg and my luggage has 31kg already.

just buy the UPS from thailand and throw it away or sell it if/when you leave. the prices start from around 1k baht

and no, the blackouts were not an exception. they happen very regularly in thailand

Planning to head to Chang Mai, Thailand in April. How much is a round trip flight usually cost from NY, USA? Going with a non-profit organization so hopefully it'll be a blast. Did you guys ride on an elephant yet?

Khid thueng krueng thep magk magk loey!

Sooo, I'm planning on moving back to Thailand sometime in february-march-ish. It's been about 5 years since last time I was there and I was teaching english and shiz. Now I'm 25, playing poker and would like to meet up with some of you fine folk living out there.

I would be very interested in any people running home games up there too, cause i was a rounder before I got into this here online.

So, if anybody is willing to, just pm me
thanks

It says 50,000 in that link...?

Without knowing much about the Phuket real estate market I can only tell you that if you book through an agent you will pay more; that's how they make their money.

The best way to find a house (imo) is to get here and stay a week or two in a hotel, take a look around first hand so you know what you're dealing with and deal directly with landlord where possible. You'll get it significantly cheaper and there'll be fewer surprises when you move in.

~1k for a ticket to BKK. Make sure your here for Songkran if your coming in April - you'll enjoy it a lot. I Don't ride the elephants too often but I drink a lot of Chang if that counts.

To me, this means that Thailand is super safe indeed. Firstly, the rate is already very low in the US so twice that rate is hardly a big deal. And secondly, Thailand's stats are very skewed by the huge number of scooters on the road - many overloaded and helmet less. This subgroup has to contribute a lot to fatalities. (In the USA, motorcyclists have about 20x higher fatality rate vs car drivers.) These two factors combined leave me thinking that Thai roads are not that bad at all.

And just speaking from personal experience, rules of the road are different, but they are not stupid. There's method to the madness.
FYI to me this means safer than in the US. Not only are US cities not centralized with poor public transportation but taxis are very expensive there. Here you don't have to ride as much on highways + the BTS and MRT are the **** and when you ride a taxi you're always in the BACK of a taxi.

Yeah, the 50k is for a longer term lease.

Just got this reply from the agent

Quote:
This house has a modem and can be connected to one computer/labtop. If you would like wireless you would have to get the wireless modem to connect more then one computer/labtop and unfortunitely the owner would not provide this. I will contact the owner and try to get more pictures for you. Hope this information was helpful.
What are the logistics of getting a wireless internet set up in a house?

Yeah, I realise that. Is that easy to do in Phuket? And what would the speed be like on the wireless? And the rough cost of setting it up?

True internet will come and set it all up for you free, no cost for the router or installation, then it costs ~700 baht a month, and is fast and reliable. I just got it in bangkok, I guess it's the same in Phuket. They have stands in computer stores where you can chat to them, fill out the forms and pick up the router and arrange a time for a technician to come over
