Hey guys, planned to stay in Patong for a few weeks but some locals are saying its pretty wild and may just wonna make it a few days. Any suggestions on another good location for access to bars/nightlife/beaches/attractions thats less manic? I'm 29 n single so also not looking for a desert island.

Gonna be heading out on the 12th Feb, anyone wonna meet up? First drinks on me!

Thanks for all the advice and hopefully catch a few of you soon.

kata is a 5min ride from patong and has enough bars to keep you busy in itself.

What are you planning to do? Holiday/grind etc also what's your budget coz kata is a bit of a tourist hub and can be expensive.

Woulda met up for a beer but I fly home on the 7th so good luck

For patts, the pharmacy left of entrance of mike shoppingmall 2nd rd side is supposed to be pretty liberal and worth checking out for special needs
And there is another one on pattaya klang left side towards the beach just before 2nd rd crossing that is good

Depending on how often you want to drink/socialize/party Patong could still be the place for you. Kata bars are filled with ugly girls/ladyboys and spending over an hour there makes me wanna just take the hit and drive to Patong.

When you get there you can have a look around, you'll find some places that are peaceful and still in Patong.

The only thing thats poor is the beach, overcrowded and dirty in places, but its a 10 minute drive to both Kata or Karon, and id rather be taking that drive sober going to the beach than after 15 beers with a bargirl on the back.

Would have been game for beers but just left last week

ive never understood crazy either except that it may be loud and affect sleep... dirty in regards to air pollution is a legit concern... and just seeing trash and litter everywhere is not pleasant but the latter is certainly a "prissy" preference and no big deal

You don't drink or party, if you did you would understand if its there on the doorstep it's a huge temptation. I would probably kill myself from booze if I lived somewhere like that.

Not even close to the same, you are a loner, I am a party animal that loves going out drinking around bars socialising with others and that is at least half the attraction. Yes there is the girls also, but I don't like to random ask girls if they want to go to my room like you, I like to have fun around the bars/discos with them first.

You don't understand the attraction of it because you don't do it, if I was there I'd be doing it far more than was healthy for me and being an alcoholic would be a realistic possibility because I love going out and drinking if it's made easy for me.

lol that just shows you do not understand, the problem is I will want to do it even though i know I shouldn't because I ****ing love doing it, and no it's unlikely I would have the willpower to not do it. I am not unique and there is lots of people like me.

If you were a regular drinker/party person you might have half a chance of understanding, easy booze and fun nights out with girls out is going happen if it's too easy for me.

Not really, there are parts of it that have nothing but resorts/apartments. Most of the nightlife is concentrated around Bangla Road.

This would be cool if we could get the majority people in the thread to join.

Its actually alot tamer than people on here make out, Its similar to Soi Cowboy, BKK, for degen partying and nowhere near the equivalent of Pattaya.

Anyone with this mentality usually doesnt party quite as hard as they give themselves credit for, its like that guy who's like "Omg I got so smashed last night", and im like, "Wait, didnt you go home at 1am?"

Anyone who would actually kill themselves from the partying would never have this concern and just worry about getting back out and banging some hookers.

Yes there is some nice hotels and with that comes nice restaurants and clean areas, chances are you dont want to pay expensive prices though(neither did I), so unfortunately venturing into the dirtier/construction parts of town is the downside of that.

Yes and when you first got there bought and smoked it, but the quality is bad and it gave you head aches and you were very paranoid (rightly so) about getting caught with it.

Now, if you could buy grade A usa quality weed and it was both cheaper than in the U.S and also legal to smoke in Cambo/Flips I am pretty sure you would be smoking full time.

i actually think k2 is correct here. as a tourist in bangkok i barely spend any time in my hotel room. every night i booze. living there i would regularly go out and have a couple of drinks and head home despite being a 5 minute walk from a plethora of bars and restaurants.

if you're living somewhere and you're an alcoholic then there are probably other issues at play here.

How do you know that if you've never lived here?

Plenty of people come unstuck by the nightlife in Thailand, because its so cheap and accessible compared to home. Trying to isolate yourself by living further away from it works for some.

Personally I prefer to live closer, because IMO the biggest danger is not the nightlife itself, but drink driving (or riding). So I prefer to be in walking distance so I'm never tempted to drive or ride home. Obv this doesn't apply to BKK where you can get a taxi for 50 baht, but it's a factor in Phuket and Samui.
