Don't know exactly (I carry USD), but

worst rate at airport >>>>>>> Canada

Maybe 2% spread at worst.

Other places are worse, but not by much....so it won't really matter unless you are changing several thousands of dollars. Sometimes it's not worth it to run around to save the difference and it's much safer to go to a bank and deposit it there (plus set up an account if you don't have one).

I have no horse in this fight, I don't even live in Thailand and I'm not sure when I will be back at this point.

But if you guys want your thread clogged up with 2 people posting things they think is funny, it's your call. It just makes the thread completely useless and only 5 people know what is going on and everyone else is getting 0 use out of this crud.

IMO, get this guys to skype group so they can chat away all day and leave this thread as a recruiting tool for 2+2 people who are considering making the move.

For the record, roughly 90% of my Thailand knowledge has come from this thread. Not only that but I haven't read this entire thread (not even close) I just subscribed less than 3 months ago (around mid June iirc) and started following along (maybe 20m/day in between sessions while I have my morning coffee).
Maybe this is naive, but I feel like I know everything I need to know to at least make a decent start over there and I def. learned enough to make the decision to commit to buying a one way ticket.

Also, I know this had been said before, but I'll re-emphasize it. If this thread was just a straight to business Q&A format (no b.s./trolling/joking allowed) most people would get bored and just stop following.

Not saying how much of PE's activities I condone or how much of his stories I believe, but he is an entertaining writer and I'd prob miss him if he stopped posting. Ya ya, he uses a lot of the same material/themes over and over but he does often change it enough to make it pretty funny. I did have more than a few drinks last night but that bit about doubling his date on the motorcycle taxi, and disconnecting the phone had me loling.

I have 3 (extended) tourist visas, one 15 day exception and one 30 day exemption from the last 12 months in my passport.

Is there any chance I will be declined a 30 day exemption when I arrive?

Trying to get a visa before I come will be a pretty major hassle and I dont think I have enough time.

I only want to stay for 30days to sort out my ed visa then shoot to Vietnam for a bit, so I will have proof of outward flights.

@all serious grinders who live in thailand:

Which times would you recommend are best when living in thailand regards to the timezone in thailand?
I have an idea, but wanna check out other grinders` shedules...
I am referring to MSNL 6xmax CG at Stars...
What you would say are the most profitable grinding-times when you live in thailand?

Does kinda suck. Prime hours on Stars are between 7am to 7pm PST which is 9pm to 9am BKK time. Looks like it's going to be Grinding 8pm to 4am. Sleep 4am to 12pm. Have 12pm to 8pm daylight hours to explore around. Really sucks for partying though.

believe it or not. I'd believe it even if it wasn't a trustworthy source, just because it's more fun to believe it than not.
A lot of people come here, with a lot of fetishes in need of satisfaction. Apparently in BKK, there used to be (maybe it still exists) a bar, where the staff all suffered from various birth defects/abnormalities.
How anybody can get a kick out of that, is beyond me. the only positive thing to say about it, is it provides an income from people who are to physically handicapped to work a job, in a country with no social security net.

Agreed, but only to a certain limit. When basically trying to take over the thread with stories and events that may or may not be true, it´s just too much.

PE, you may be a nice guy in real life.
But if the stuff you post here is true, then seriously, wtf is wrong with you???
If its just your imagination running wild, and you need to make up stories, to get attention, then I´ll just quote myself

According to the official rules, you should have no problems, whatsoever.

Hi,

Heading over in a couple weeks for 2-3 months. I'll hit bkk to start then prob koh samui then mebbe somewhere with fewer distractions.

Any help with some q's that have probably been asked before would be greatly appreciated!

1. What should i do for a monitor? I was thinking of packing one in a hardshell suitcase and if it dies it dies. Would I get too many questions for packing electronics? other options? ship one?, buy one local? anyone want to rent / sell one?

2. Room security - Assuming I'm staying in a serviced apt. whats the best option for monitor/laptop. stuff it in luggage, lock it and hope for the best? Many issues reported that I have to take precautions?

3. Internet. Whats the best plan? Thinking I'll use whatever building provides primarily, but what for backup? any wireless services? use smartphone tether?

4. Motorcycle - so I have Canadian non-motorcycle license. what do I do if on a beach island?...rent away and take the risk of shelling out $$ if caught / in accident? Any tips to secure your ride? I wont be using one unless its a real pain in the ass otherwise.

5. I'll be hitting the major tourist spots i'm sure, but I'll get nothing done there and I could die. So I have to spend a bunch of time elsewhere. Any suggestions of places a little quieter where i can stay walking distance from a town and have beach / market / restaurants nearby?

thanks!

Again, I'm not sure what the problem would be if PE would stop using 2+2 as his personal blog and start using his personal blog as his personal blog. The thread stops getting cluttered with PE posts (and even worse, posts about PE). PE gets to post whatever he wants, uncensored, and keep interacting with people who think he's the funniest thing since Dane Cook. Since he doesn't play poker, it also opens him up to a larger audience. Put on a few unobstructive ads and he can even make a couple bucks sharing his adventures and insights. Everybody wins. What's the problem with this?

as far as the monitor question...I am also going there in a few weeks. I'm from Canada....I plan on bringing my desktop computer and 27" monitor. Will throw it in the suitcase and have close between it...should be good i think...
Koh Samui is not a bad option for grinding and being near beach....

Not that i really care one way or the other but if i was was mod I was be moving k2 and PE to there own personal travel log threads. Mostly cus it should keep the bickering down to a minimum and keep ask us about Thailand slightly more concise.

Why did the threads merge? Thailand chatter thread was fine for regs to swap stories, argue etc..

Pooter for mod.

wait....wut? That's a bit ridiculous. How will you have space for cloths ect? Doesn't it weigh like 15-20lbs? Thats going to use up nearly half your weight allowance. What are you going to do when you want to travel all over Thailand and neighboring countries? I sold my desktop and bought a new high performance laptop. You don't want to be hauling around a desktop computer everywhere while you travel! These days you can get a laptop packing i7 3rd gen quad core, 8GB ram, 1080p display, 7200 hard drive for <$1200. Just do that imo.
