Likely this is a stupid question, but bear with me as I have a severe case of old and the last time I was in Thailand was about 15 years before the first iphone was released. Sooo...I play poker in the US on my ipad and iPhone using one of the poker apps. I transfer funds with zelle, cash app or venmo. Those cash sites say that their services arent available overseas. But does that refer to using Thai bank accounts? Could I open the venmo app, for example, on my ipad and use it as it's set up withUS bank accounts? For that matter, do US based poker apps work in Thailand? Or is there something about connecting to the internet from Thailand that would trigger a block or something?

So basically my question is if I am in Thailand can I just connect to the internet and all my US banking websites and poker app stuff works like I am in the US or is it affected by being in Thailand?

Thanks.

I think you should be fine unless one of the apps or banks is specifically restricted in Thailand. Maybe someone on here that uses said apps can confirm, if not you can clear any doubt by calling your bank there and explaining them your situation and emailing the apps or asking your agent if you have one.

Does KBank have a card like this? or does anyone know a bank that does?
You can ask BKK Bank for a card with your name on it. I had this problem and they asked me if i would like to order a card. Of course i said yes and it took a week to arrive (got a receipt and had to return to branch to collect). I have now done this twice now, each time after the card expired.

Venmo app will only work with VPN from outside the states.

There's a way to get a KBank statement with your addy in the file from their app in .pdf format, not entirely sure how but I know is possible as my gf did it a couple times as she needed one for applying to a visa.

If you dont remember if you gave them an addy when registering an account you can go to a branch (ideally the one where you opened your account) with your passport and request to add that information into the system, that's what I did with Bangkok Bank just to be able to get an statement for some KYC stuff like the one you want to do.

Hi all . Just joined this forum after finding it via Google. I've been searching for a friendly NLHE game in BKK to play while I'm here this week. The only one I've found so far is Gutshot Bangkok, but I have no idea how legit it is.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of any games happening at the moment? I'm used to playing a lot of home games in Australia, US, Japan and Singapore, but never played one here in BKK where I spend a lot of my time.

Anything up around 50/100 THB. I enjoy both NLHE and PLO.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for the question too...

Also, happy to help anyone with other info about BKK. I've been staying here on and off for 18 years.

Should be fine. You might need to use a VPN for some sites and apps, but just download Express VPN or similar and you'll be good to go. I generally use a VPN for most of my travelling anyway.

Sign up for a postpaid mobile phone account and give one of the Airbnb addresses as your address. I used my ex GF's address and it worked fine.. now I have an 888 account that I can use when I'm in Australia.

Gutshot, I was there only once in March, but it appeared legit. They had one table 50/100 NL from like 5pm (buyin 5k-50k) and later on a very high stakes PLO, 1k/2k or something like that don't remember. I only played the low stakes one. All fine, nice peeps, free food, but the game was not the greatest, mostly a mix of ok players and nits, one guy was actually really good. Mix of locals, chinese and westerners. According to the info they sent, it didn't run everyday but most days, at least that was the status in March/April when I was there. Made me do an RAT before entering.
Not the greatest for making money, but for a friendly game it's prolly exactly what you are looking for, just contact the guy on LINE, the info was on FB IIRC. There are other games in town prolly, but I was there only three weeks and between some remote work, exploring the town and nightlife couldn't get much poker in. I really liked it though, I totally underestimated that city before. Maybe back sometime in the summer, perhaps can meet up for a beer or something.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely check out Gutshot. Let me know when you're back in town, we can grab a beer.

Yoyo!

I'm 29yo Dutchie and will be working remote from Phuket in the summer.
Started it off by renting a sick villa for the month July.
As said working remote job but big passion for poker as well.

Would potentially be open to open the villa up for grinders with same mindset.
Wanna go for a pretty good balance including; Muay Thai in the morning, work in the afternoon and big party/grind in the weekends.

If you're interested hmu and we can have a chat over video call.

Cheers,
T

I gave that game a try a few times but its typically really boring from what I saw. fine for social play, but not to make money since the rake is fairly high for 50/100. You can win big if you're lucky to be there when a VIP sits and dumps because the regulars are too busy waiting for aces to stack him. My mate who brought me to the game did let me know its super safe.

Can't find a Japanese forum here, can anyone direct me?

If a Japanese girl used to work in a Hostess Bar back in Japan, should one be wary (as in Thai bar-girl level wary)?

Not speaking from experience but I wouldn't think so. It's an actual job there. My guess is most of them don't bang the customers. But that's just an assumption based on my knowledge.

east asia has a lot of bars where the gimmick is they have women to drink with them as company

much like hitting on a stewardess, it's bound to be successful at times but is not at all an expectation

think of it like hooters but the waitress sits down at your table with you - she may end up dating one or get tempted to make a quick $200 but not at all a guarantee

but... that's also what you'd say if you were a prostitute and didn't think you could manage a better cover story so went with the softer version - ie I'm an exotic dancer not a woman who tells everyone she gives a lapdance too that she'll suck his dick for $300 and has been in a few pornos

but... in china at least most former hookers often say they worked in retail or as models, no idea if same for japan

glgl, please report back

From what I can make out online there's a lot of variance. Obvs there's gonna be some shenanigans, everyone has their price and there might just be a member of BTS that waltzes in or w/e. We'd all do it! But apparently it's the exception to the rule... so I guess in reality like 50/50, as so much would be between girl and client, with an incentive for secrecy from both parties.
I just know from living in Thailand a long time how that kind of job can affect a girls mindset and attitude towards men. It's pretty easy to spot part time free-lancers posing as 'good girls' on tinder after a couple dates. Fun as hell but you wouldn't wanna date that ****. As for a hostess, if her job was literally to string men along to get as much money out of them as possible I can't help but think it would have a pretty negative effect on a girl's future relationships. I could totes be getting long gamed she's pretty smart lmao. Also a couple red flags like snap closing line if I'm approaching (sponsors, lovers, ex VIP customers lol)?

She has a 'normal' job here and her own place. One thing I can't get my head around is why tf would she move to Thailand for a very regular office job, when she buys all Japanese products, 99% Japanese food, and gets excited by anything Japanese, while complaining about the standard bullshit we all put up with here. It's not like she has friends here - she socializes with her Japanese colleagues and me. She's been here before so should kind of know the score. So my paranoid side goes towards the negative e.g. running away from something, covid dried up hostess bars now she's looking for a sugar daddy etc etc.

Anyways that's my ramblings on negative thoughts I've had. We've been seeing each other for around 3 months and it's been pretty awesome in general. We are gf/bf but these niggling doubts do creep in. I think blue pill trying to 'talk about these doubts' with her would be a big mistake and something I'd try like 5 years ago. I'll just have to gradually suss her out.

Feel free to post opinions, however ugly :P

if she has a lot of japanese colleagues then it's probably some kind of expat package where she either makes more than she would in japan to account for the hardship or it's at least far more than a local salary so may not be putting away big savings but never needs to worry about living expenses nor budgeting

makes a ton of sense to me as i worked office jobs in china

ie americans making 100k in usa are often paid 150k to take the same job in china and their kids international school is taken care of, they are put up in a baller villa and they have a private chauffer to take them everywhere - it's not even big shots or anything most of the time, just like mid level person who felt the extra money and perks was enough to uproot their family and go abroad
