There is a great row of guesthouses in patong that are close to everything. There are all 500-600 baht per night. I like 'James Guesthouse' its 500 baht per night and very clean, i always stay there. The taxi driver may not know it but tell him to drive to the 'jungceylon' shopping complex in Patong, tell him to take you past the big golden arches of the Mcdonalds sign and keep driving. ABout 100 yards along that road on the left should be the james guesthouse. It should have a 'for sale' sign hanging over the balony. I was there 3 weeks ago, its a good place, its cheap, close to the shopping mall and about a 5 minute walk from Bangla Road.

friend and I are flying out to Bangkok next week, can someone recommend us some hotels/places to stay and where the good eats are at?

then we're going to need a ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, rough estimate traveling expenses would be cool (should we be taking a taxi or is there some lightrail?)

we're going to be staying in thailand for ~2 months, spending ~1m in changmai, 1m in phuket, would def appreciate any help

thanks in advance

I met with this guy today. He's a native English speaker and does coding for the sites his company creates.

They have these things called buses that take you from city to city, it's pretty sweet. Actually they are really nice. Don't take one from Khao San road unless you want people going through your bags under the bus and have things stolen. I don't recommend it and I wont give those shady ****s my business even if I had nothing to steal. Go to the Mo Chit bus terminal North of the city. Asking price for a comfortable VIP bus is 518 baht. It's a 10 hour ride

They also have sleeper trains which is very comfortable, takes like 15 hours I think. I forget if it is 700 something or 900 something baht

or you can take a tuktuk

or you can fly

Chiang Mai to Phuket you probably want to fly. I probably wouldn't but sure almost everybody else here would, it's a long trip

stay on the koh san road in bangkok if your there on holiday. big backpacker hang out, cheap food, decent clubs and lots of boozed up fun. also close to the temple and other touristy things. hotel i stayed in before was called the sleepwithinn which is one street down from koh san. was $20 a night and had great wifi suitable for poker (but comes as extra charge). also cheaper and more expensive places depending on budget but for $20 a night this was an awesome place.
