Think I'll start doing regular 5/3/1 DLs next week (still from plates though, and start out with easy weights), and keep speed DLs as assistance on squat day to get the requisite volum to cement/further improve form.

Feels pretty good when I manage to keep my chest up and tighten up the upper back (lats in particular) properly, which happens more and more often.

When I focus on tightening my upper back I actually feel soreness there the next day. Is this standard for DLs or am I doing it wrong guys?

I did do pullups too but I usually do those so IDK

SM - don't sell yourself short, that dude definitely wants a trip to the "relaxation zone" Snitch style. I think it's the most obvious reason for Snitch's shirtless video posting....he felt threatened and subconsciously knew he had to respond.

In seriousness, sounds like it's feeling more how it should be feeling. My back (rhomboid especially) - not lower - is always hammered after heavy DL days. And it's because getting truly tight and keeping things in place just requires a lot of stability keeping chest up/back straight. I think someone mentioned in the beginner thread once they've never felt anything the next day in their back after doing DLs and Cha basically said they were doing it wrong. I agree, .
