Oklahoma’s a pretty ****ed up state. I believe their state motto is:

Yeah any state where the majority of the population were raised by their grandmother is going to be pretty rough.

I just had a Beyond Meat/tempeh bacon cheese burger for lunch. It wasn't quite as good as the real thing but it was about 90% as good.

It wouldn't surprise me if in a few decades they actually make fake meat taste better than real meat.

Had that already, it was solid. Also had a triple impossible burger this week. Both fine. I mean 30 seconds after you eat them there is zero difference from eating real meat. Maybe you just feel less groggy than eating meat.

While we're on the subject of fake food, has anyone tried a quest peanut butter cup? If so, how close in taste are they to a Reese's?

I haven't had Impossible yet. Only place I know for sure has them (I have spent zero effort looking) is Burger King, and I don't think that's a fair test. After all, I'd never eat a Burger King burger with real beef either.

This Beyond/tempeh bacon cheeseburger really was pretty good, though. I don't know how much of it was the low expectations I had going in, but I'll definitely try it again. When I said it was 90% as good, I was comparing it to my go to fancy burger place. There are plenty of real bacon cheeseburgers out there that it beats easily.

I found out the last couple of months that eating red meat is a habit for me. I mean before this time I had never gone to the steakhouse and ordered anything but porterhouse or ribeye or filet (Fack new York, too much variance).

But then I had an impossible burger. A beyond burger. A stuffed flounder at the steakhouse. And then all of a sudden my red meat consumption is more normal. And it has had zero effect on my quality of life.

Obviously not going vegan but realizing red meat was a habit for me was an eye opener. I don't need 12+ servings a week. 4 is fine (still not there).

I am currently obsessed with chicken shwarmas or chicken gyro souvlaki or whatever that is. Tasty journey trying to find the best one. Makes chick fil a taste like bland shiet.

You do realize that a porterhouse is mostly New York strip by weight, right? So how is that going to eliminate the variance? Do you just eat the filet part of the porterhouse and they only proceed with the strip if it looks good. I guess that would work. It's a pretty baller way to eat steak, though.

This is definitely true. I'm surprised it took you this long to get there.
Chicken Shawarma > Chicken gyro, imo. I did spend a good bit of time in the middle east tho, so I might be biased.

I always get it with extra pickles. And wrapped in the pita bread (yeah, I know).

Because if the strip stinks, you still got the filet.

Strip by itself too risky. Ribeye pretty safe but I get super groggy with that much meat and fat, need coffee afterwards. So I actually went back to the filet recently, safe when it's angus. And then I will skirt steak in a shiet hole in latin america. Or ribeye in argentina, they never fack that up.

Well, as I posted, that will definitely work but certainly a baller way to go. If you don't mind the expense, I can't fault you for that.

Ribeye is my option of choice when I'm at a steakhouse. I almost never go anymore. Thanks to the 2+2 steak thread, I can produce a better steak at home (and I suck at it compared to the maestros of the steak thread).

To be honest, I'm kind of getting over steak. A good steak is nice from time to time, but it's kind of a boring food with a pretty simple flavor profile. 3-4 times a year is enough for me. There are much better beef dishes. For example, I could eat good beef tacos a couple of times a week (or more) with no complaints.

Yes, we have already gone over this many times.

The cut with the most fat is usually the tastiest.

The french fries that are twice fried and no longer taste like potatoes, are the best ones.

The ice cream with the most fat and sugar is the tastiest.

Yes, yes, yes we understand. MOAR fat. MOAR sugar. MOAR salt. Pretty sure everyone is on board, so yes filet is weak. But I also like my sweet potato plain.

Next you are going to tell me that the Chicago Béars are not actually named after Béarnaise sauce.

Hey, I put a small sim (the inexpensive flightscope one, mevo plus) in my heated garage over the winter. No projector, I just use an ipad for now. It's pretty fun. Almost golfin' season!

Nice. I think swinging all winter has to help when season starts. We’ll see soon

I don't eat protein powder a lot, but I've always got some around just in case. I finally finished my jar of ON whey.

Anyone have a favorite that they like. Or should I just stay with the ON whey. I've got the chocolate flavor, but I mostly chug it with water, so I don't know that it matters much. But if you've got a rec for something that is a quality product, chocolate-flavored, and has a flavor approaching unobjectionable, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Any chocolate whey, 30 cal almond milk, + banana.

Profit.

Sadly I don't really like banana, except in the form of banana bread. Or even better, banana bread pudding.

My current favourite is mixing it with some PB2 and almond milk. (Not much milk - the bare minimum to make a paste). I then put this on air popped popcorn.

For straight with water, I actually like the ON Platinum whey (minimal extra calories, mixes easiest I’ve ever seen, and also fine in vanilla form) and the BSN Syntha6 (lousy on calories but great on taste, slow releasing, and more filling so handy for cutting). Neither are the cheapest but frankly I deserve a little pampering and so do you.

It is of no consequence to my current fatty cutting program though; for ~10 weeks I’ve been losing (water excluded) about 1 lb of mm for every 9 lbs of bf at a total loss rate of 2 1/4 lbs per week based entirely on calorie restriction (hello, dry lent) and typically just 30% of recommended protein intake for cutting as a...muscular guy. I figure I’ll ride this train as is as long as those ratios hold. Not even going to start working out until then. Still at 25% bodyfat, but at least I’ve gotten my bmi below 30 and down to just 41.5” around the navel, woot woot!

Got myself Covid vaccination appointment and can choose between Pfizer and Moderna. Anybody have insights on the choice? For recency I’ve only seen that one Pfizer Israel study that sounded great, but even that was a month ago. Also that “adverse” reactions happen 15% for Moderna but no stats for the Pfizer. I do know someone (a scientist at that) who got quite sick from the Pfizer 2nd dose (like the flu for 3 days) but 10 other people who had no problems. None of them ever had their choice of “brand” though. I was hoping everyone else would be my guinea pigs for these things but it still seems like a dearth of real data out there in favor for a lot of happy talk about how everything’s equally great. Probably will go with Pfizer just because the faster 2nd dose better enables my planned Hookers-and-Blowcation in Cancun.

My wife got pfizer along with a lot of her coworkers. Most were fine. One got fairly sick - moderate fever, etc. My wife was sort of out of it for about a day and slept more than usual.

Her dad and his wife both got moderna. No effects whatsoever for her dad but his wife got pretty sick after the second shot. 102 fever. But, it just lasted a day.

I just got the first shot of moderna. Sore arm but nothing else.

From what I've heard a slightly higher percentage react a bit more from the moderna but I would say it probably doesn't matter much which one of those two you get.

NHS claims some side effects for 10% of people with Pfizer,:
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...vid-19-vaccine

They claim the same for Moderna, so I'm not sure it helps, though.
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...accine-moderna

My little brother had flu-like symptoms for a few days after his first round Pfizer. He was fine after the second. I suspect this pattern is common amongst folk who had Covid, although he was asymptomatic if he had it.
