Bros, I think I might be doing an xfit class this evening that has me doing deadlift triples on the minute for 10 minutes. Any recommendation on what percentage of my max I should be doing for these? I was thinking somewhere between 70-80%?

70 probably doable imo. I think this will be harder than you think it is.

70% looks like it should be trivially easy. But "crossfit" and "deadlift" in the same sentence leads me to recommend that you protect your spine at all costs.

So 70%.

Though I have an even stronger preference towards refusing to do the workout, arguing with the coach about why you should just be doing sets of heavy KB swings, and eventually burning the gym to the ground.

I wouldnt go over 60% for reasons DFII mentions. And if the "coach" recommends any more than that, arguing with him and burning the place to the ground sound like good options.

Doing speed DLs with light weight & good form is great, but if your form breaks down at all, there is no good reason to continue doing them.

I do not think 70% 1RM x3 every minute is easy. It will be hard and you will be a mess afterwards. gl.

I dunno, it sounds hard, but should be ok though. 30 reps. Imagine doing 3x10 at 70% in 10 minutes. Easy game. So 10x3 probably easier.

Agree with BTM and cha and DFII. You will murder your back and hate life if you do 70% for high reps. I for one hope you would spend your energy more wisely by arguing with the coach.

I do kinda feel like we are a bit hard on EV. It really is loco all over again and we grew to love that guy.

This made me lol irl.

Assuming for the sake of argument I didn't say this was being performed at a crossfit gym and I was an intermediate trainee who could hold proper form, would the recommendation still be 70%? I think that's a pretty safe number, but I think it might be a little too easy.

On the minute, yes it is.

There's no good reason to test this without having tried it with a lighter weight or longer rest periods either.

You can accomplish good things DLing 50-60%.

I agree with the 60%. Make sure you do some good DL warmups prior to getting into the work sets too.
