Could you tell me why I would be your favorite?

Just because primitive people didn't have plastic toothbrushes and Colgate doesn't mean they never did anything to clean their teeth. There are also many natural soaps that people have been using for thousands of years, so the whole never showering thing is pretty stupid as well. Animals in the wild wash themselves frequently. You're just an attention whore and you think you have it all figured out just because you read some dentists' website that has a different opinion than "mainstream" nutritionists.

This is the kind of sentiment that makes me believe you aren't really reading what I said. I have never once proclaimed to know everything, I actually say the opposite. I am very careful as to what I write and make sure I have several sources to back me up. I am just an informant and a curious investigator looking for ways to improve myself. That website actually contains an enormous amount of great diet information written by researchers who have dedicated their entire lives to investigating the diet. I have read far more than what is on that site. I am just presenting the information - its up to you to decide what to do.

My shower theory was self proclaimed CRAKCPOT - which means you would most likely think of it when you were high. It was meant to be somewhat entertaining.

This is absurd.

Is it ok for a 4'11" girl to use standard size barbells? For exercises like bench/OHP it just seems the bar is awkwardly large

If she is strong enough, yes. I'm pretty sure nature doesn't magically shrink objects for her to use on a day to day basis (random functional argument), and unless you plan on finding midget bars, its all that is there (more functional arguments). Not to mention there are plenty of stumpy short guys who work out that probably have the same wingspan as our aforementioned midget girl.

I'm not quite sure how you guys expect to see who's making the best progress and who's got a prettier wiener if you're not showering at the gym???

We learn in grade school that simple carbs cause tooth decay.

how the f did 2.5 weeks off to get married (albeit pretty boozy and only ran 3 times) do this much damage to me? I feel like I'm, at best 75% in pretty much all categories. I got some work to do before Puerto Vallarta

Freedom from disease...? Whats the life expectancy of these people? Its hard to develop modern disease when your average life expectancy is <40. It also ignores the huge issue of sample bias with sedentary v non-sedentary cultures. Take a group of people, put them in front of computers for 8 hours a day, give em' 4 generations and then do a study. This is like studying the diets and bodies of Olympic level athletes and concluding that caloric intake >8k per day for men and >5k per day for women results in great bodies no matter what you eat. Ignoring the vast caloric expenditure/exercise they're getting.

I'm not gonna dispute the simple carb issue. I feel thats beyond question. But the litany of other conclusions seems a bit absurd.

OK, the conclusions may be absurd or better yet impossible to come to. But the observations themselves were consistent with what was found among various "traditional" societies throughout the world.

That is fine. Applying them though to modern society and saying, "Eat only meat. You will be free of disease (which no one in modern society is afflicted with until most primitive people are dead, or they die in childhood), your teeth will be better (or they'll rot out and you'll die), and your **** will grow 2-4 inches." Is a little far fetched.

Note: Strawmanaments.

I don't understand this arguement.

sugar and refined carbs is bad. meat, fish fruit and veg is good right?

Is GS saying we don't need to eat fruit and veg? Is that what's causing the disagreement?

I don't want to speak for GS.

But there's some evidence that humans do not need to eat fruits or vegetables, at least in time periods of one year or less. Whether this is optimal for general health, longevity, strength, endurance, etc. or even practical is what I believe is up for discussion.

I have always tried to imply that the probability of contacting these chronic diseases is going to be far less when eating a traditional diet. I have studied the mechanisms of how carbs can be capable of causing these chronic diseases and have already presented some of them thus far. The argument does not have to be all or none as you are implying it is. I think it could be that refined carbs (sugar, flour) have a very high chance at causing disease, where as fruits/vegetables have a very small chance and meat even less. Changing the percentages of these three variables will likely affect your chance at getting said chronic diseases. So only meat might happen to slightly more optimal overall, but significantly better than just only fruits and vegetables. The difference between an all meat diet and say a 70% meat, 30% fruits/veg could be negligible. I will eventually switch to this kind of diet once (or if) I get down to my strength and body fat goals.

Anecdotal stories of native tribes is not any sort of evidence.
11-12-2008 , 05:03 PM
It's some evidence. And there was a 2 person study done that lasted a year. Not a lot of evidence obviously, but some.

I'd rather see the study Shemp outlined above.
11-12-2008 , 05:07 PM
Also, just ask yourself. What did people that lived in far Northern Climates eat most of the year, before the advent of agriculture? Not just Inuits, but Europeans and Asians.

Mild laughter.

I thought it was interesting. The guys didn't get scurvy, which was a surprise to me and the researchers. So it at least opens the doors to further study and questions.

Unfortunately, experiments like that are probably going to be considered unethical and won't be done.
