Squats once a week are enough for some big lifters.

tl;dr:
Monday: Sumo DLs
Tuesday: work up squats to where there's no more room for plates on the bar and see how much volume you can get in.
Wed-Sun: rest/upper body crap.

EZ game.

Did a full smolov. It was awesome and filled with agony and anxiety. Stretching alot and forcing yourself to keep going was key. NOT doing deadlifts at all during the week as well or lower back woulda taken to much of a beating. It was surprisingly easy on lower back to just squat 4x/week if i didnt do anything else, what was tough tho was to go to the gym with insane doms and do a seemingly impossible routine. Week 3 in mesocycle is insane. Also i was very surprised to how fast the body adjusted to all the squatting and the doms kept being less and less and after a few weeks i could squat heavy every/every other day no prob and so i have been. Feels great, i lol at my old self for having to rest a full week to do legs again. What a ****ing pussy.

You're kind of already asking for an injury by doing free-standing barbell squats in the first place, but I know in forums like these there is an undeserved stigma against the Smith machine.

You must be either loco, Candito, or someone else loco is paying for advice.

@ others, has anyone read this book by Matt Perryman? I looked up some stuff about Broz and it sounds interesting.

Read it and my "programming" was somewhat based around this from June-October. I've got 4 more weeks on this squat program before I go back to squatting erryday. Busto also does Bulgarian style programming, i.e. heavy daily singles + back off work.

There´s a difference between Leg day and 3-5 sets of squats in a work out. Leg day often involve 5 leg exercises, throw in a couple of dropsets and supersets and there´s no way to keep it up 3x week over a longer period without fatigue in the muscles or injury.

No. "Leg day," as you describe it, is for wanna-be bodybuilders turds who mostly look like **** and lift jelly dick weights. They do all this "volume" so it feels like they are actually doing something.

Well that´s dependent on the goal, some people train to lift heavy, others for bodybuilding and most in between. Its not only done by the wanna-be´s but also by serious bodybuilders so don´t throw everyone doing dropsets under the buss.

Point still remains that its a difference from leg day and doing squats 3x week.

And I have trouble motivating myself to squat once a week. Pain in the everything is that exercise.

This week's ggo came from entering the gym at 9pm (big mistake). All 15 bench/chairs were occupied along with both power racks and the smith. I assumed the weight machines must be packed, but only 1/5 in use. The world is changing, just avoid it from 6-10pm.

I have to convince myself to not squat every day. It's just a different side of the coin.

GGO: Bro-employee at the YMCA is showing a girl how to squat.

He has her stand with her heels on 2.5lbs plates. "This helps so you don't wreck your knees. It takes all the pressure off and puts it on your thighs."

Next he tells her to come down deep and tap the safety bar at the bottom.

I thought I was gonna see a train wreck, she never wiped out, though.

ummm it's actually pretty common and decent advice compared to squat in air force ones or some ****ty cross trainer.

For the past couple weeks this little asian kid has been bringing in this mid 50s guy with him that is legitimately blind, walking stick and all. The kid proceeds to hit all the bench press variations with too much weight and this guy serves as his spotter. His hands never leave the bar and he assists strictly off feel on every rep while offering encouragement. They somehow transfered 135 to another bench as a team yesterday as well.
