I used to blindly assume that pt's knew what they were doing, now I'm not so sure.
One of the great benefits of reading this forum/living with kyle has been getting "smart" about stuff like this, and being able to laugh my ass off at the PTs and bros instead of just being bewildered as to their complex techniques and giant muscles. Yeah, you might be able to press my bodyweight 3 times, but I am smart and you are doing curls- so I am betterer than you.

All kinds of different ab-machinery was available 10 feet away at the time so can't really so no reason for it. Coincidentally they were the kind that also went around naked in the locker room afterwards.
Totally missed this post. I see it all the time. Looks like this:

Totally legit.

They arent catering to the exceptionally dense, they are just catering to the masses. I am impressed by the marketing brilliance too actually, even though the whole thing is pretty ridiculous.

Knowlege is all well and good but the guy who can press 3 times your bodyweight actually is 'better' than you from a physical standpoint, crappy programming and broscience notwithstanding.

the masses ARE exceptionally dense. PTs are only limited by a client's cashflow and refusal to learn.

So they have a giant alarm that goes off judging people for making noises, grunting or judging? Can someone point out the insane levels of hypocrisy already?

How about a gym with a pussy alarm?

Anyone not working out hard enough causes it to go off and the staff comes over and tells you if you don't get your ass in gear you have to leave.

Isn't it going to be going off nonstop at every gym?

At my old gym I saw a guy go to the squat rack and put some amount of weight on the bar. It was definitely not more than 50lbs, but he didn't put tiny plates either, so it was either +20lbs or +50lbs. Not sure. It was a standard 45lb bar though.

Anyway, he then put the bar on his shoulders touching his neck, stood straight up, stepped out of the rack, tilted his head back over the bar to look at the ceiling, bent at the knees, and started jumping. I could not believe it.

Gyms could hire somebody or pay the pt's to just berate and humiliate those who are half-assin.

There's this rusty box full of collars in my college gym. Something in there at the very bottom caught my eye. After sifting through a bunch of ****ty unworking collars, I found them. TWO 1.25LB WASHERS! After training at this gym for over a year and never being able to microload and never ordering my own plates, I discovered we had some the whole time. I've never seen anyone use them, though there are a handful of serious lifters. SUDDENLY, LIFE HAS A NEW MEANING. ALSO MY INZER BELT ARRIVES YESSS!!!!

I don't get all the outright hate for Planet Fitness. They exist to serve a target group, and they serve that group well. 99% of this forum is not their target market.

Personally I am a member there because they're $20 a month and every other gym in NYC is $75+. It's also cleaner and less crowded than the $89 a month gym I used to belong to.

It has cardio and dumbbells, which is good enough for what I do right now, and when I decide I want to start lifting I'll prob go to the city rec center near work which is like $70 a year, or something stupid like that, and when I do I will def keep my PF membership so I can do Cardio near my house.
