If I beat my old numbers I might consider competing full meets again, squat raw/equip 157,5/230, deadlift 200 kg. So both very beatable. Bench will be main focus though. But I have an eye on a meet this spring since the is a huge gap between shirted meets from early february to sept here with no single bench meet. Also full meet bench record is "only" 267,5 kg here, should be possible at some point, I hope, need raw bench to go up though.
Thanks, nice to be back to lifting and posting again.
Long story short - I have no advantage using a two ply shirt yet. Long version:
I just got a new Super Katana single ply with a scoop neck, size 48. My old regular Super Katana is size 50. I am intending to use the new one for my 2nd attempts, but its not broken in yet, and I'm not entirely sure what I will be able to touch and press in it yet. I'm hoping ~550-600. I touched 585 to a 2 board and pressed it Sunday, then 585 got stapled to the 1 board because I touched way too low. This shirt needs a lot more breaking in before I can touch and press anything. This shirt is IPF legal I think.
There is a new Titan Evil Twin Psycho shirt that is considered single ply, but it is two plys laminated together. My coach says this should be close to a two ply, but it should be a little easier to touch and a little less supportive than a similar two ply because the two plys do not rub together.
My size 52 two ply is a Rage X. I've touched and pressed 605 to a 1 board once, and done 585 to a 1 board a bunch of times. I tried pulling the collar up and touching 545 to my chest, but that didnt work. Right now, I cant find a happy medium with this shirt. I need to get stronger and break the shirt in a little more. I've had this shirt for a year and a half. I hope to someday use it to touch and press something around 600-650 in a meet.
I do have a size 54 Rage X that I have touched and pressed something slightly above 500 in. I can do more in my size 50 single ply Katana (meet PR 518, gym 535).
As far as single vs multiply squat and DL:
I've never used a single ply squat suit. I squatted 507 raw in a meet a couple years ago. I imagine I could do ~530-550 now if I trained raw for a little while. I squatted 700 multiply in a meet, and 710 and 720 in the gym. My training goal is 788, but I will be happy if I get 750-766 in my next meet. I would guess if I got good in a single ply suit, maybe 650 would be about my max?
DL- my suit is single ply, but it has velcro straps, so it is illegal in single ply meets. I do wear briefs under it. I dont know how much DL gear helps, but its not a lot. My wild guess is it adds ~50 lbs for me. My meet best DL was 705 when I took a token bench and squat due to a shoulder issue, and 678 in a full meet. I would guess using a regular single ply DL suit would get me in a similar range to where I'm at in multiply. The more gear you wear DLing, the more the gear pulls you forward.
What part of the world are you in? If its not obvious by my use of lbs, I'm in the US.
