That was a sick bench. Maybe leg day is overrated.

That bench press is sickening. Guy looks natty too, even with those big titties clearly potruding out of his shirt.

My whole time here in S&F, I have shat nonstop on CNS training. On how it makes you look like you don't even lift. That high volume was superior for aesthetics. Blah blah blah.

But as I discovered, the gains from hypertrophy are almost unmeasureable. I dare you guys to measure. It will definitely be in the ounces, if you been training for a couple of years.

And that there is the beauty of strength training. The gains can be measured. And when stalling occurs, we can just gain weight!!! Its beautiful and now I understand how S&F came. A bunch of disillusioned DYEL nerds where making no gains and moved over to Rippetoe and GOMAD. Here you could make gains. Shiet you could even be competitive with drug users!!!

And I see a revival too. S&F stalwarts like Kidcolin and Aidan are making some noise. Up and comers like the behemoth from Ireland recently commented that KC was at a good weight at 5'9" 225 and that he should maintain for his next meet. Young pups like stuckinarutt can't stop talking about when their next bulk will begin and at the same time goes berating new members to go deeper on squats, even though they are clearly past depth.

And the aesthetic crowd? Zero facking gains from EV. That kid is losing his mind. He has lost like 100 pounds off his total but thinks he looks better. WTF?!!! And loco got old and disappeared. Last we heard, he had some good balance going as he was squatting, benching, and deadlifting exactly the same (245x3). True story. SAD.

Sure the juiced up brothers doing well, but that's another subforum.

So let's give a chant to Strength and Fatness. A revival. We are Fat. We are strong.

Best aesthetics in our gym: 74kg, ~10% BF, deadlifts 250kg, benches 150kg, squats 210kg. Total time in the game: 14 years.

At your current rate of progress (which will obviously slow), you'll surpass that (wilkes) if you stay in the game for 14 yrs.

How much of that guys progress was made from year 10 to year 14?

Sure, maybe. Just affirming loco's post whilst acknowledging that the time to get there is substantive.

I have no idea. He started at 14 (old man is an old school equipped lifter). Won multiple international equipped subJR and JR titles. Burned out and took a couple years off competing the same time as raw lifting made a resurgence and has returned to a raw 440 wilks. He has made significant gains in the last year I have been lifting there, I don't think he ever equipped bench pressed 150.

Actually the fact that he started at 14 was pretty huge. The dude had T, GH, and probably some other useful stuff flowing in abundance during his early lifting years. Add elite coaching to that (and probably genetics), this kid obviously had a lot going for him. Considering all of that it seems a little surprising that his raw bench is now greater than his prime equipped one.

Hiking TR

tl;dr warning
Spoiler:
Lost Coast Spring Break 2015

I took my daughter on a backpack trip from the mouth of the Mattole to Shelter Cove for her 10th birthday and spring break. The total route is about 24 miles, and we spent 4 nights on the route. We left about 4pm on Monday the 13th. We left to a building storm, and tried to make it to the lighthouse and set up camp before it hit. We missed by about 30 minutes. There are no pictures of the first day as I had packed the non-waterproof camera away.

The next morning we awoke to beautiful sunshine and a stiff north breeze. We dried out at the old Punta Gorda lighthouse.

These guys were right under the lighthouse and made a hell of a racket, even over the rain:

We left around noon, looking to make it to Randall Creek, only 5 miles or so away. The lost coast waterfalls were pumping after the steady rain the evening before.

Day 3 we headed out to Big Flat. Within the first mile we came across this guy:

After carefully going around him, we found some great trail and had a great trip making our way south. I was pleased to see steelhead smolts in Big Flat Creek.

Snack break

Wilderness house

Day 4 we headed for Gitchell Creek. The section from Big Flat to Gitchell was like Hawaii. The fan had turned off late the prior evening, and it was warm and humid. We could have been in Hawaii for how it felt. When we got to Gitchell I couldn't believe my eyes - more steelhead!

Waiting for the tide to recede:

Day 5 was a brief trip to shelter cove and civilization. Epic first backpacking trip and Em is stoked for many more!

Bonus pics.

Tako?

Otter paws!

Whale!

Definitely worth all the scrolling up I had to do. Helluva birthday gift for a 10 year old too, she's gonna remember this one a whole lot more than jimmy's gonna remember the ipad.

I wanna go live in the wilderness house.

kendrick's verse was pretty damn good! Actually think the live performance I linked some posts back was stronger by a far bit though.
04-20-2015 , 07:24 AM

She was leading at the time and spotted it right away. I've snake trained my dog so he was totally chill. I asked my daughter if the snake should live or die (meaning did she want it for lunch). She said live. First I tried to move the snake with a hiking pole. Wouldn't budge. Then I threw a branch at it. Then I shot near it with a .22. It wouldn't move but it was seriously pissed. Finally I picked it up and saw why it wouldn't move- it had a mouse halfway down its throat and was just trying to eat breakfast when a bunch of *******s started to **** with it.

So we walked around through some low brush and poison oak.

Train it to do a specific thing when it encounters a snake. I have him go on point, a lot of people train them to sit. I want to know where the snake is.

Use the dog's natural instincts. Mine wants to give chase to things that move but he isn't allowed to until I release him. So he points. If another dog is pointing, he honors the point.

There are entire books on how to train dogs. Basically bribe them with treats and work 10 minutes at a time 2-3 times a day until they get it.
