I try to suck less at it, season just started here. Got 2 lessons on tuesday, swings and high layups.

We might get a video lesson some time soon, the problem last year was that the the coach's camcorder didnt work properly. Just lookied it up, Im actually 35.5 HCP....

But we all agree that it would be a waste going to a shop and get tested and pay overprice for the clubs and I should just order whatever online?

I just created a prolog script for this, it's still running and I'll post the comprehensize list here soon when it's done, I think. I dunno, it's possible it's going to take a few years to complete the matching process.

Getting fit >>>> not getting fit

It all depends on the price you're willing to pay, if the money matters then buying cheaper online is better, if it's not an issue, then get a custom set. Your golf pro should be able to fit you, and most shops will do it for free if you buy from them. It can make a world of difference if you have a weird body type (i.e. short/tall, or alligator/monkey arms, small/big hands, etc...). If you're 5'10 and always fit into size medium clothes your whole life, off the rack clubs are probably fine.

You're a strong dude, I'd say as your swing improved you're going to be able to generate significant club-head speed. Stiffer shafts will help with consistency and accuracy while softer shafts will generate more club-head speed but be tougher to control.

How about the Nike Golf SQ Sumo Square 5900 Driver at 88 pounds?
Ill go to shop for fitted irons. Its free when I buy, or it was last time.

well the square headed drivers are certainly going to be more forgiving/accurate than your standard driver. Some people don't like the look/feel/sound of the club, have you hit one of them before?

That appears to be a pretty nice price although I don't know the exchange rate.

why are my legs all bruised? i have visible bruising on both legs all over the place on my thighs, inner leg, and calfs. i have had no impact in these places. i have been biking a lot, up some long climbs (in the foothills near denver), but ive never had massive bruising in the past.

is this something to be concerned about? i mean, theres a lot of discoloration.

If bruises appeared over my legs despite no impacts or collisions or anything I would be ****ing ****ting myself.

oh well, guess i will figure it out after this ride. only gonna go 50miles and 5k vertical feet.
04-10-2010 , 12:43 PM

Dude in a wheelchair is in the gym today, pretty cool. I'm finishing up squatting and there's this adjustable bench with wheels on the bottom and all the bro's move it to the smith rack to do incline bench. Anyways, he asks me to wheel it across the gym to the dumbbell rack and I do. While I'm rolling it I bang the **** out of my shin and almost say something, then I remember the dude clearly has not has use of his legs forever (they were crazy skinny) and I catch myself before letting out the jackass statement of 2010.

On a serious note, I cannot keep my lower back in extension at the bottom of a deadlift. I hadn't DL'ed in a while, rather doing rack pulls and RDLs, but today I try to just DL 5x185 and immediately when the weight breaks off the floor my lower back rounds. I've taped myself RDL'ing 8x245 and my lower back is in extension through out the entire movement. My DL 1rm is ~335, the weight itself today wasn't even close to a struggle, but yet, I suck. I'm not sure if it's a feel thing, like I just can't get the sensation of having my lower back in extension at the bottom, or whether it's a flexibility issue. I can get into the correct starting position, so I think it's more on the feel side. I've tried pretty much everything that has been suggested here before and I really like pulling, am I destined to just lift with a slightly rounded back?

hey guys,

I've been doing a bunch of bodyweight exercises the last 2 weeks, after a long period of not doing any exercise at all. Currently I just do a random selection of wallsits, pushups (some different variations), every other day I do the Beginner Routine burpee's and I'm going to buy a pullup bar so I can add that to my routine. At the moment I just do random stuff when I feel like it, not really sticking to a schedule/routine.
Should I do certain combinations of exercises on certain days?
Should I be giving myself restdays? How often?
At the moment I do a bunch of exercises in the morning, and then random pushups etc later in the day, should I be doing all my working out in a shorter period (like 1 hour a day, instead of 30 mins + 10 mins + 10 mins + 5mins or something)?

any help/critique/tips would be much appreciated!

ps. also doing frogsits, progressing to planche pushups, gotta be ambitious amirite

depends on your goals and how your free time is divided.

right
at the moment I have a pretty big beerbelly, 187 lbs at 6'4 (not overweight by any means i guess? but definitely dont look athletic or close to it). Definitely want to get rid of that beerbelly first thing. After that I don't have any ambition to get huge, but I dunno, just look fit & pretty muscly I guess.
I play poker + student so I can do a lot of 30 mins stuff , but I won't be going to a gym and am not gonna buy big weights. I am really enjoying just doing those bodyweight exercises, keeping my body busy and think it can accomplish quite a bit if I keep doing it often.. is this a correct assumption? Definitely gotta get me that pullupbar though
04-10-2010 , 03:40 PM
Why won't you go to the gym? You just want to be a pussy forever?
04-10-2010 , 03:40 PM
Spenda,

No you are not. For instance, see last page of derosnec's log.

body weight exercises are way better than no exercise, and chinups are awesome, but the progress you will make with weights will be WAY better than any you will make without. you are not going to become a huge muscle bound freak by accident.

EDT or tabata training methods sound like they'd fit your goals.

bw work usually just means increasing your reps instead of weight lifted. however you want to do it is usually okay. every other day is a good choice.

pullups > chins. (v-taper, ldo)

i think you should also consider either a band or sandbag to increase intensity. homedepot sells 10 feet of rubber tubing for ~$17, and rosstraining.com has some DIY sandbag links.
04-10-2010 , 05:21 PM
pullups arent better than chins.

they add more resistance for your back, so they can be useful as a progression, but they are not inherently better, and infact i would say they are on balance worse.
04-10-2010 , 05:22 PM
thanks for all the advice
fwiw I just don't like going to the gym, but really enjoy the stuff I've been doing at home
04-10-2010 , 05:24 PM
well in that case just dont forget your lower body for the love of god. one legged squats and sprint work are probably your best bets here.
04-10-2010 , 05:26 PM
Chins > Pullups. **** a V-taper. You get guns by chinning.
04-10-2010 , 05:37 PM
I got 3xbw+25 on chins today, nice to be tiny. Hoping for 3xbw+45 by the end of May.
